Yea, I've barely watched this season, but before the season (and even halfway through) I was pretty optimsitc and willing to igve him 8-8.5 mil per. Now I think he's gonna get 9 mil + and I wouldn't wanna give him more than 7.5-8 mil long term. I think he needs to be moved of the core to shake things up.Do you guys think you'll keep Dobson long term or try to move him? Has he been as bad this season compared to previous seasons as his stats suggest?
Ugh that's what I'm afraid of.The Lou special 6 year deal awaits....

I think the Isles will keep Dobson. His offensive stats are not as troubling to me as his defensive play. He often gets caught in between not knowing who to try to take out in a backchecking situation so he stands out when the opponent scores. It's not just Dobson alone though. His partner has something to do with that, as do the forwards. Hell, the entire team has been a defensive nightmare.Do you guys think you'll keep Dobson long term or try to move him? I'm not against bringing him back, I just think he's going to absolutely want a long term deal and he'll easily get 9+ somewhere else which I'd absolutely not give him.I think the Isles will keep Dobson. I don't think you give up on a 25 year old defenseman one year removed from a fine season, but I'm leery of giving him an 8 year deal. He's 1 year from UFA so I'm hopeful some sort of bridge deal can be worked out and Lamoriello allows Roy to hire his own assistant coaches. First year assistant coach Tommy Albelin hasn't helped anything for his D corps.

Funny, but for all the talk about how bad Lee's contract was it turned out to be not quite so bad. Of the 6 years thus far, he's had 28 goals 3 times, 20 in 68 games and 12 in 27 games. Last year's 20 goals was his worst scoring pace. This season's 28 goals is good for 43rd overall in a 32 team league., and tied for 10th among LWs.Wondering if anders Lee gets dangled. I year left on the contract at 7 million I believe. Time does fly eh?

He's pretty much the same guy he’s always been. Last year is the outlier, points-wise. I would be ok moving him in the right deal…Do you guys think you'll keep Dobson long term or try to move him? Has he been as bad this season compared to previous seasons as his stats suggest?

Yeah, if he stays healthy and on track for 25+ goals again he could bring a nice return - GMs like those 6'3", 230lb guys come playoff time. Of course, we'll have to see how we're doing in the standings and who the GM is....I hope he has a fantastic year next year and gets moved at the deadline again. Get 3x first round picks in what is supposed to be a good draft.

Now you've done it!
Anyhow, those who keep playing NHL GM always seem to forget SOMEONE needs to be the leader of the team on and off the ice and he's a damn good one
His contract is not a problem and his play is not a problem
Yeah, that's another angle. You can draft guys, but part of how they develop depends on the team around them. Like the old JP Parise/Jude Drouin example I bring up sometimes. However, it could also be that Lee might want to finish his career someplace else - closer to home - or take a shot at a Cup. We'll see how it shakes out.Now you've done it!

If that’s what he wants I’d ask him to give Lou a heads up so he can do a sign and trade between the draft and the opening of free agency.I'm not against bringing him back, I just think he's going to absolutely want a long term deal and he'll easily get 9+ somewhere else which I'd absolutely not give him.
Can't believe how fast time goes. The qb from minny is winding down a long islander career. May stick around for awhile howeverNow you've done it!

The only way he gets 9+ is if a GM pulls a Barry Trotz (the GM iteration) and signs him based on reputation rather than actual play and a failure to do a serious film study. He's got offensive skill but he's no Erik Karlsson and as hard as it is to imagine he is a considerably worse defender than Karlsson was at that age.I'm not against bringing him back, I just think he's going to absolutely want a long term deal and he'll easily get 9+ somewhere else which I'd absolutely not give him.
This is the NHL... Of course somebody is gonna overpay. They don't just have the reputation factor but also the 'hope' that he'll breakout again. Add in the cap expansion, and Chrychrun getting 9mil, and he's got that locked up if he goes somewhere else. The only way he gets 9+ is if a GM pulls a Barry Trotz (the GM iteration) and signs him based on reputation rather than actual play and a failure to do a serious film study. Yeah, I was acknowledging that possibility and also saying that it will be a mistake. Hell, maybe it will be BT himself. He's got the track record now. This is the NHL... He would be a good fit there but there literally isn't a single player I'd want from them lol. If I'm trading Dobson, the main piece has to be under 26 and already producing a little. I think best case scenario is we get McTavish or Eklund, but I'd be fine with Byram +, Morrow++, plus a couple other teamsYeah, I was acknowledging that possibility and also saying that it will be a mistake. You don't have to say 'something'. Everyone knows what it is. SKILL2023-24 NYI =16 OTL (5 SOL) - worst in NHL
2024-25 NYI = 11 OTL (2 SOL) - 5th worst in NHL
Those two totals really stand out to me and account for a lot of lost points for teams who were going down the stretch fighting for a playoff spot.
I think that lends some credit to their 5v5 and regulation time play, but highlights that there is something severely lacking in OT.
1. 3v3 Coaching philosophy
2. "Pond hockey" offensive speed & skill
3. Both
The Powerplay numbers suffer the same fate and pose the same question.
Everyone knows where I'm going with this, but there is more than just the "eye test" here that the Isles are not keeping up with the rest of the league...
