This player is 25 years old and was moved at the deadline. By the way, his team sports a -74 goal differential on the year.

Lou had an opportunity to get younger on Friday and folded his hand.

But...

Lou "knows" the team needs to get younger.

Wish he knew these things when speaking to other general managers - Not just during press conferences (which just keep the casual fan placated).

Would’ve loved to get Zetterlund. Moving Palmieri would’ve allowed us to recoup some assets we’d lose in a deal to acquire a player like that, and it also wouldn’t have sacrificed this season at all. It’s clear that Lou is way too stubborn to be able to pull off deals like these though.

You guys just know that Palmeiri has probably already been resigned and Lou won't announce it because he thinks it gives him some sort of advantage as if he's the President during the Cold War.
It is kinda funny how he’ll be like this sometimes or even most of the time, but then other times he’ll be casually chatting like “yeah Wahlstrom kind of sucks, we’ll definitely look to trade him if we can find the right fit for him”

Exactly, he has zero creativity when it comes to how to parlay.

Says the team has to get younger. Tried to extend a 33-year-old and is working on an extension for a 34-year-old.

When Lou says these things, I'd like it if a reporter pushed back at him once in a while.

True, but he also said that he wanted players around who would help the team compete as they re-tooled (got younger). So while he tried to extend Nelson and probably will re-sign Palms, if he sheds players like JPG, Cizikas, Mayfield, etc., for younger players, then he's doing what he says he will.

If he doesn't, then he's either a liar or incapable of doing so. In either case, it's good indication that they should move on from having him in the GM role.

I expect it to be the latter, just as Lou has been incapable of upgrading the talent on the big club through free agency.

Add this to the list of reasons why Lou needs to go:

By trading Nelson and not replacing him with any current NHL talent even Lou has to acknowledge that we are not competing for a Cup this season. With that in mind, other than trading Palmieri what else could Lou have done?

Let’s see, Barzal and Varly are out for the year and 1/2 of Brock’s remaining salary is off the books. How about taking a short term salary dump for some free assets? Who needs that, right?

Here’s another one. Let’s look at the Avs other big trade. Mittlestadt + 2nd round pick + decent prospect were flipped for Charlie Coyle and a 5th round pick.

Charlie Coyle is one year older than JGP, makes about the same $ and has fewer points and a much worse +/- stat (if that means anything to you). In my mind, Pageau is the better player and that’s quite a package for Coyle. TBH I don’t love Mittlestadt but that’s a deal the Isles should make.

I also think Lou’s demeanor and reputation are deterrents to other teams even approaching him with creative deals. God knows Lou isn’t going to be the one thinking outside the box.

From his hand being forced to trade Brock, it shows he’s actually willing to kick the can until next season. If he moves out some of the veterans and retools properly (I.e. Washington), he can revamp the roster for the better moving forward. Ritchie helped move the prospect pool up a few notches atleast with the other pieces they have. If anything, once they’re out start bringing up random guys and see what they can do. It won’t hurt to see some Bridgeport guys get NHL games in.

I don't think so—listen to the presser. Lou is adamant. He says twice, "We would like Kyle back, but it needs to be under our terms and what is best for this franchise." He explained that they wanted Brock back, but under their terms, the deal wasn’t enough, so they had to move him.

Jason Zucker's contract extension in Buffalo—two years at a $4.75M AAV—is probably a good example of what the Isles would like to re-sign him for.
I think before anyone signs 21, we need to see how he ages without Nelson in the middle

I bet ya he actually makes some moves to shake up the core this summer and you are wrong.

Ooooooh. That would be wonderful if Lou finally gets around to doing the common sense/obvious thing.

That said, even if he does "shake things up" doesn't mean Lou has a clue on how to actually build a winner. The guy who feels the need to waste 10M/year on Mayfield, Duclair, and Engvall...You'll pardon me if I don't want to see him really start making moves.

Legit don't understand how anyone has seen his work and wants him, or trusts him, to continue on in any capacity.
