What an unbelievable joke that it's come to this. It's enough already with this clown GM. I would not trade Nelson if Malkin would fire Lou.

What I’m hearing about the Islanders’ Brock Nelson trade (and extension) talks 2 days before the deadline

With just about 48 hours until the trade deadline, there’s still not much clarity on the New York Islanders’ plans.

The teams that have interest in Brock Nelson (No. 1 on The Athletic’s trade board) and Kyle Palmieri (No. 14), the two Isles pending unrestricted free agents who are most likely to be dealt before Friday at 3 p.m. ET, were still waiting to hear if general manager and president of hockey operations Lou Lamoriello had made his deadline plans as of Wednesday early afternoon, according to league sources.

Lamoriello was still trying to hammer out a contract extension with Nelson on Wednesday, per the sources.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s staying, though. Some of the teams that would love to acquire Nelson for the stretch run and postseason might also be interested in signing him to an extension, which would require pre-trade conversations with Nelson’s camp before agreeing to a deal.

The longer the Islanders go without making their intentions clear, the harder it would be to have those kinds of talks — if Lamoriello would even consider that option. A post-trade extension, like the one the Islanders gave Jean-Gabriel Pageau after acquiring him from the Ottawa Senators at the 2019-20 deadline for three draft picks, could make the return bigger for the Isles.

There’s no shortage of teams waiting in the wings. The Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild and Los Angeles Kings would all make pitches on Nelson, assuming the Islanders don’t re-sign him for themselves. The Tampa Bay Lightning were on that list, as well, but are also in talks for forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand and Yanni Gourde from the Seattle Kraken, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Wednesday.

Some of those teams would be interested in Palmieri, too, though Nelson is the biggest fish for a team to land this deadline.

This is f***ing malpractice. I’m trying not to get too worked up before we actually know the outcome, but if you’ve followed how Lou has operated here at all throughout his tenure then you’d know the writing is on the wall.

Lou is still actively trying to re-sign Nelson according to Staple and Rosner :help:
Love Nelson but the state of the team they should not be re-signing these aging guys.

It's two more days guys, just hold the freakout until it actually happens. You can do it, I believe in you.
My fear is Lou keeps teams in the dark and they decide to pivot elsewhere. If Lou decides to sell at the 11th hour he won’t have any leverage

Unbelievable - completely unbelievable if they re-sign Nelson. If he wants to stay, deal him for picks and sign him over the summer. It would be disastrous if they make no trades and actually re-sign players.

I’ll refrain from my usual sarcastic reply.

Are you happy with the current on-ice product and the longer term downward trend? What is the legitimate argument against selling unless you’re a closet Rangers fan?

Lou should sell

That won’t stop me from finding whatever happens amusing, because it’s an entertainment product

Ah, I see - I assume very few are “angry” in the context of their actual lives.

When I say I “hate” this iteration of the team, it’s not with a fiery passion that interrupts my regular life.

In that sense I too will find whatever happens amusing, even if I get “angry” in my HFIsles demeanor.

😂😂😂. Is that what we’re doing here now? Wanting to keep expiring contracts for the lolz
It makes no sense. You must be proactive. So, in essence, his thought is to keep everyone and maybe next year it will all fall into place. This team is stagnant and in need of many changes. Yuck if he sits in his diaper and does nothing ( or worse, re-sign + 30 year olds).

The entertainment of the eventual outcome of not restocking by trading impending UFA's is nothing more then that Lou Getting what he deserves, another mess just like he left in New Jersey....
When people who are warned again and again and do not listen and Screw Up, seeing them get "What They Deserve" I have always found entertaining...
The G.M.'s job is to win a Cup, Not Just "Tread Water" to keep Comfy....

this team has no future. lou destroyed this entire organization. no farm. the ahl team is historically bad. the big club is average at best and cant win a playoff series. we are going to be really bad for a long time. thank you lou. just so you can re-sign declining players.

in other news, another round of Horvat Watch! for those who partake. Here are his stats since Barzal has been injured:

10 GP - 2 Goals - 1 assist… -9

If only he had a magical winger who could unleash him :sarcasm:. But for real, I’m at the point where I’d probably rather trade Horvat than Nelson at this point. He’s an absolute 0 without a puck transporter/carrier. He’s still got value around the league, and I have a feeling this one is going to age far worse than a 3 year deal to Nelson.

Another trade where people who criticize get jumped here… but at least we have some character and leadership in the locker room amirite
