Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

Not that I think ANA is looking to see low on him, but Pelech or Pageau + 2nd intrigue NYI?
Not really, think about it. He has underproformed this year and already making $5.75M per year. What do you think he's going to want in his next deal which is a year away. Again, all flash, does not play consistently for that price tag. If I'm looking at someone on Ana, it would be McTavish.

McTavish is playing 3C currently. They have Zegras and Gauthier who are centers currently playing LW. They have Nesterenko and Gaucher (Both 1st rounders in the system) coming up.

Last year played 31 games with 6G/9A and a -1 with 17:05 TOI
This year has played 32 games with 6G/9A and a -7 with 16:52 TOI

Doesn't exactly scream hot prospect right now . . . #9 overall, with two very nice seasons to start his career . . . at some point, you have to say he has regressed?

Honestly I question how much he wants it. Doesn't seem like a "give it all" type of player (despite his immense talent).

After the last two losses along with the Barzal injury it was a nice little run but this team should trade Nelson and Palmieri. In the offseason/deadline I would also trade Dobson if they can get Elias Pettersson. If Nelson really wants to be here give it a run in free agency while letting him go play for a Cup elsewhere.

The team has problems staying healthy because they are getting older. Injuries hit this team differently because they don't really have the talent to bank points needed when they are fully healthy.

I am not really on the fire Lou bandwagon like many (indifferent on it) but he absolutely should be trading Nelson and Palmieri. That would get me on the bandwagon is he does not trade both of them at this point. Love the moves he has made on defense in Boqvist, Perunovich, and DeAngelo. It makes you think why the hell he does not do this in the offseason because he can still spot talent for cheap.

The grass is not always greener in regards to a new GM. I like Roy and think he can build something here as head coach. But they need to get more players who have skating abilities on the defensive end. Quick thinking players too (which Dobson is not).

Dobson it comes down to one question. Can he be the #1 anchor on your defensive side of the game to lead you to a Stanley Cup?The answer to that is no for me. He is soft defensively, not an elite skater offensively, not an elite puck mover either. He will put up a few more 60-70 point seasons but this is not 2010 anymore where that is impressive. Six other defenseman in the league scored more than him with 10 scoring 60+.

Trade Nelson for picks and prospects, trade Palmieri for picks, trade Dobson in a deal for Pettersson, try to sign Nelson and continue to add speed to the lineup. The team would be back to being good enough much quicker than anyone thinks. However, they NEED to trade Nelson and Palmieri.

You sound exactly like the Brock Nelson haters on the Trade forum. 40 goals last year when Vancouver was playing well without the clubhouse crap.
Isn't that the point though? We don't need another player that plays well when the whole team is performing. We need one that plays well irregardless of the record. A stud.... who is consistently the best player on the ice. A Dobson trade should include nothing less coming back.

That's a horrible trade for isles if that's the case
Van is not a match now. They are not trading Pettersson...want no part of Boeser as part of any Dobson deal.
Why aren't they trading Pettersson?

Dobson isn't exactly being talked about here as a guy you want to trade for, so why do you think he fetches one?
Frankly, Horvat is the one who elevates for us when injuries hit and others play poorly.

And??

I agree on Horvat. Dobson is highly coveted. Teams on the outside will see past his warts. He'll most certainly get a player like that based on age and stats alone.

Can you elaborate on what your answer means, as a question to my question?

Bo Horvat last four (no Barzal):

1G , 0A, -6

Seem to remember him going on a pretty long goal drought earlier in the season as well…

Pageau and a 2nd to get rid of the contract sure but Zegras isn’t even worth a 2nd on his own.

I would absolutely take Zegras for a 2nd for the extra points he could pickup in the shootout alone. Career 65% shooutout success (13 made-7 miss-20 attempts).

A team starving for offensive talent should not stick their nose up at a guy with that kind of talent for a frigging 2nd rounder.

In terms of potential contract negotiations, he would have 1 full year on the Island 2025-26 to prove it. If he has another subpar season, you offer what he already is getting paid or let him walk. Meanwhile, you should be trading Palms for at least a 2nd to offset the cost of Zegras walking for "nothing."

In the end, I find a trade for Zegras impossible in reality because I don't think he fits what Roy or Lou is looking for.

Pointing out that so many here crap on parts of Dobson's game yet expect him to be treated by other organizations as an All-Star in trade worth.

This is the underlying problem with the team overall; too many streaky players and not enough consistent performers.

Fine, name the consistent ones who aren't top of the league superstars . . . you can only be streaky if you actually produce a lot over the season.

Don't confuse struggling to finish chances with not producing chances at all. If you can't see with your eyes how Horvat takes it on himself to elevate when the lineup is limited, I can't help you understand. One thing this team is absolutely blessed with is leaders.

But not finishers.

But not finishers.
Our shooting percentage has actually improved quite a lot the last 20 games or so. We have 11 players at 10% or more now. Still not league average, but certainly much better than earlier, when we were on pace for something like 7.5% as a team, which would be about a 20-year NHL low.

38 goals in the last 12 games would be 11th in the league for a season, at 3.17 a game. Without some key pieces.
