Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

An intriguing name that popped up in a trade thread about this: Cole Caufield.
I'm no good at making up trades, but what the heck: Dobson and Engvall for Caulfield, Anderson and maybe something else?

I assume Mailloux would be too big an ask? Xhekaj also too much? We take back a bigger salary in the Engvall for Anderson "overpaid winger" swap, but we get more grit and a shorter term.

Brock’s agent met with Lou today. No surprise he scores. Such a great asset this trade deadline playing so well

Palms getting hot right at the right time

Let’s get these offers coming in!

Since Barzal has went down:

1-3 Record
1-9 on PP, even with the shiny new puck moving defensemen

In those 4 games for Bo Horvat without Mat Barzal:

1 Goal, 0 Assists, -6
I mean, I don't think any halfway intelligent Islanders fan thinks Barzal is the problem. He's quite easily the most important member of not just the offense, but team.

Only the dumb fans blame him and want him traded.

if the isles need to make some painful adds to a Dobson / ep40 centric deal I'll be turned off .

I can see Alvin wanting Simon Holmstrom in the deal who's become one of my fav players to watch during this weird season .

Could I live with Danny Nelson + Dobson for ep40 - probably

I don't think he's THE problem, as in he's the reason why they're not good. However, I also don't think he's enough of a difference maker at his salary level. The PP is as ineffective with him as it is without him.

So while I'm not in a rush to move him, I wouldn't have a problem with him being moved in a deal that improves the team overall. Trading Barzal probably wouldn't single-handedly make this team a contender, but if executed properly, it could be a big step towards getting to that point.

If Nelson gets hurt in the Four Nations tournament then Lou’s gonna have a lot of ‘splainin’ to do.

As time goes by, it seems likely that Lou will re-sign him so maybe that’s a moot point.

Hope Brock tears it up either way.

Didn’t you do this last year with Ilya Sorokin? Sheesh.
Nope, my issue with Sorokin was he was letting in softies and his angles were off. We learned in the summer, he had a back injury, which may have contributed to him favoring it and resulted in his rather poor play.

And, I’m still awaiting for him to deliver in the playoffs as the clear number one. His past two playoff series vs Carolina leave a fair amount to be desired.

Which means someone from the outside leaked that info to Lebrun.

Nasty edges and hands in tight.

Last year played 31 games with 6G/9A and a -1 with 17:05 TOI
This year has played 32 games with 6G/9A and a -7 with 16:52 TOI

Doesn't exactly scream hot prospect right now . . . #9 overall, with two very nice seasons to start his career . . . at some point, you have to say he has regressed?

The Isles need to be sellers come the trade deadline. 100%!!! Nelson, Palms, for sure, possibly Dobson and Pulock as well. Let's face it, if the Isles make the playoffs (which is doubtful in my opinion) they'll go in as a wildcard and play a #1 or #2 seed. It will be a quick exit. Then there's a high chance that Nelson signs elsewhere, so they lose him for nothing. Moving Nelson might be the quickest way to expedite a rebuild. I think they can get younger and add depth, which is so important for the Isles to turn things around quickly. Possibly having 2 first round picks (one might be a top 10 if Nelson is moved) will do wonders for this team's future.

I'd like to refer to the AHL to make my point. The last two AHL championships were played between the Hershey Bears and the Coachella Valley Firebirds. The Capitals and Vegas Knights affiliates. Who coincidently happen to be two of the best teams in the league. Prior to the Bears winning the Chicago Wolves were champions, the affiliate of the Hurricanes one of the winningest teams the last few years.
Guess which AHL team is and has been one of the worst teams in the league. Of course it's the Soundtigers/Bridgeport Islanders. That speaks volumes. When the Caps or Knights have injuries, they call up promising prospects, the Isles scout the waiver wire!!!

It's time to be real hear, the Islanders need to be sellers, this year more than any, because they have two players in Nelson and Palms that can bring in a legitimate return and make them younger. Something they haven't had in the past and I don't see getting that same return in the next year of two.

One more point regarding Nelson. The Isles could trade him before the deadline for prospects, than resign him in the offseason. That's a win/win all around.
