What makes the news about possibly trading just turned 25-years old Dobson depressing as shit is it is couple with the anticipated news of re-signing soon-to-be 34 year old Nelson.

This team needs to get younger, not older.

Yes, Dobby has looked bad this season; but I still feel like he is going to be closer to the 70-point player (which is really good for a defenseman these days and excellent when it comes to the Islanders recent stock of puck-moving blueliners) he was last season over his career than what he is doing this year; especially if he has more talented forwards around him....

Dude just turned 25 for crying out loud....

and the last time we had a 60-point season defenseman (much less a 70-point one)....

ya, you guessed it....Denis Potvin, over 4 decades ago...

I repeat, unless a true difference making forward is brought in the deal (and I question whether Pettersson is that type of player) then this will be a trade we regret for many years to come....

My 2 cents. Maybe the smoke about Dobson has more to do about economics. I believe you do not trade a RHD who is 24 and a RFA. The team has control. How much does Dobson want? I would prefer a 3 year deal which I think takes him to UFA status. IDK- 7-8 million per??? You get him for three more years of evaluation and runway to make a decision while he is under contract. If he is like Bouchard in Edm who was rumored to want 11 mil/per? I would say AMF!
