Pettersson, thought that was implied.
want no part of the soft, mentally challenge player who his on GM for all to hear called him soft and a baby and is making 11.6M. We can get better for Dobson.

You guys scream about Brazal and Dobson, wait...you will do the same with EP when he's here...book it.

Please Lou, don't do it.

Who that could reasonably be available would you trade Dobson for?

Kyrou, Zegras?

Just throwing names out in no order
Ana - McTavish but they stil need to add
Kings - Kempe - won't happen
Buffalo - around 1 of these guys - Tage/Tuch
Car - Svechnikov - what about him? Not having a good year on the 3rd line now
Columbus - Kent Johnson
Det- Would Yzerman trade one of those 2 top guys in Larkin/Raymond in a deal?
Mont- fans want him so bad...would a deal around Caufield work?
OTT - Pinto +++
Utah - they have some Great youngsters I'd love to get my hands on

This is a few, I can come up with more.

You could say the same thing with Rangers getting bailed out of bad contracts.

Although I don’t think Lou contracts are that bad. He signed guys term keeping guys that want to be here knowing Island isn’t a free agent hot bed.
And then he gives them too much term because that's the only way to fit them under the cap. That's like negotiating your payments at the car dealership instead of the out the door price. This is how you end up with a 72 month loan and a car that's worth less than what your payment balance is.

Playing in a small market like the Islanders he will be fine especially with leaders like Lee and Horvat. He will have no pressure but to play his game. Isles locker room is very tight. EP is the guy. I don't think Horvat would come out and say that he would love to play with EP again.

don't care what Horvat says to be honest. Don't agree that he will have no pressure, quite the opposite if we trade a 70pt young RD and let alone whatever else the old moron is going to add... He will have a LOT of pressure from us the fans

Mgmt should NOT let Lou make any deals. Any deals Lou is thinking about is going to be short minded and going to screw isles in the long run.

Mgmt should force him to move Nelson and Parms before the TDL and let the NEW f***ING GM fix the roster and decide on Dobson!!!!!
Scott Mall-kin would have to be interested in his team for that to happen.

Wait until season ticket renewal time, which the Isles have delayed until March this year instead of their typical mid-January date. This will be a hoot.

There's something wrong in Vancouver yet again. Not so sure it isn't something more than Rick Tocchet. Playing for him is like playing for a raw nerve.

Right if he does not perform. The things I listed above should ease the pressure and he will play up to the fans standards. We will love him if he puts up 80-90 points.

Love the ‘Dobson is a 70 point d-man’ thing. He’s a trainwreck defensively and clearly lost the isles 8-12 points last year and so far this year it’s 6-8, easily.

He folds under pressure: see Stadium Series and Carolina playoffs. Has he done anything in his time to elevate the PP?

Look at Dobson is a 50 point defenseman and things look a bit different. There’s minimal risk in trading him, especially if someone is going to pay him 7/8M per year, which is asinine.

Didn’t you do this last year with Ilya Sorokin? Sheesh.

Would we love him as a 50-60 point player that he currently that has a long term contract at 11 million per year? He won’t be playing with Hughes anymore. Pettersson is also a very soft player. He isn’t the player I want for Dobson.

Do people forget how good Dobson was for most of last season? Remember the entire defense being hurt and Dobson carried the defense? He just turned 25, was top 10 in Norris voting, and coming off a 70 point season on a team with a severe lack of offensive talent.

Trading Dobson for pennies on the dollar because he’s having a rough season is asinine.
I generally agree that it's dangerous to trade a young D like Dobson when he's having a down season. However, if we're talking about a deal around Dobson for Pettersson:

Dobson is just 14 months younger than Pettersson. so it's virtually an even swap age-wise;

Everything we're saying about Dobson we can also say about Pettersson. A year ago both were virtually untouchable, then finished their seasons on a down note and it continued into this season. Last year VC fans either wouldn't consider trading Pettersson, or wanted both Barzal and Dobson back in a deal for him. So they're both down in value right now.

Both get criticized for being soft. But if a guy is going to be "soft", better a forward than a D. And VC fans used to praise Pettersson for being such a great two-way player in addition to putting up points, no?

The Isles know Dobson better than we do. Maybe there is a concern about his motor/passion? IDK. And they know Pettersson a bit via Horvat. Maybe they view this as an opportunity to get an elite talent?

The problem I have with a Pettersson trade is that he’s been playing poorly since last January, and the massive contract he is locked into. His contract makes the trade a giant gamble that has the potential to blow up in our faces, which imo is the reason he is on the market.

I’m not completely against trading Dobson, but I want a similar age first line forward or multiple blue chip prospects coming back. If it’s prospects Lou better also sell Palmieri and Nelson, and embrace the rebuild.

Whoa. We’re going full demento on the main board.

How about Barzal for Pettersson and call it a day.

Honestly I’m just so skeptical about Pettersson’s contract. I don’t think I do it. At his best Pettersson is the better player, but the way Pettersson has been playing since January of 2024 makes me think his best days are possibly done. At 11.6 per year you need him to be 90+ points a year. He’s currently pacing for ~50.

Posted on the main board thread but

Barzal+Dobson for Pettersson and Boeser
Boeser would need to be signed and they would need to add something substantial. Maybe two things.

We don't play the same kind of game as the Canucks. Petterson comes here and scores 75 points every year for 11.6. People will not be happy
