Tonight is a huge game. 4 point game against a wild card competitor on the road. If they pull this one out they’ll be 2 points out, and tied with Detroit for 9th in points % (until they play tonight).

It’s so hard to see Lou selling if they remain this close. We might be in for more of a stand pat/add something small situation than anything.

The winning streak should have convinced all of you that Lou is not selling. How many trade deadlines do we have to have under Lou for fans to understand his way of operating. The Isles will not operate any differently until Lou is gone.

The Isles have 5 tough games upcoming, 4 on the road, all against quality teams.

What happens to Lou’s grand plan when we get 3 points or less out of this stretch?

I’m not sure if there was any possibility of Lou making a deal for Nelson prior to this current win streak but this is heading towards a worst case scenario.

On a related note, if you think Nelson’s value has gone down what do you think the value of Palmieri is? For those keeping score, he’s 33, makes $5M and is tied for 121st in the league in goals scored this year with a terrible +/- stat (just like last year when he was team worst).
Palms value was never more than a 2nd if that. Anyone who thought more was a typical fan over valuing their favorite teams players.

I don’t think this impacts Nelson outside of losing one suitor.
Nelson? He’s signing an extension and staying right here. Lou believes in his team.

The winning streak is fool's gold to the Nth degree. It's only going to prolong the pain around here. It justifies Lou not selling and Malkin not removing Lou.

Two years from now the Isles will be in the same position - Trying to make the playoffs with an even older team.

Just for clarification, I was curious about the claims some posters were making so I looked it up. It started with something about the coaches, so I looked that up and posted it. Then there was something about Barzal increasing our offense, and now we've ended up taking it to wins and losses without. I don't care where anyone falls on whether they want to trade him, keep him, or pay his parking ticket, it's simply interesting. I also don't think it's as lopsided as people might think.

Anyway, here's the data on wins, losses, and points percentage in the two seasons he's missed considerable time.

*The red indicates the time missed

The reason I have two differing sets of dates for after his return this season was just to show where we were when the data was originally looked at, then I included what has happened after, and finally the total.

Looking at both seasons where he's lost time the team collects more points without him than with him. Unless my math is wrong, which is definitely possible.
One thing to note, when the he missed the remainder of the prior season, the Isles had their entire team…except him and just added Horvat.

This season when he went down, the team’s record was better until 3 core defensemen went out (a limited sample size) during his absence. Those combined, the team fell apart.

Trade for a top 4 d-men rental incoming in 3...2...1 because Lou thinks this team has earned the right to have any roster additions they need to compete (because they only start moving their legs and squawking when their skinny neck is on the cutting block). o_O
