Now that Miller has been traded, I can see Colorado going hard for Nelson since it was rumored that they had interest in Miller.

Isles trade Nelson to Colorado for Mittelstadt and a 1st round pick.

Isles trade Mittelstadt and Dobson for Petterson.

I don’t think they’re trading Petterson anymore. And if they do it won’t be in season

Miller/Pettersson to Middlestadt/Chytil would be a hysterical downgrade. They have to see what they have with the changes they've made first. They could easily pivot to trading Pettersson in the off-season if need be.

Reading is hard.
That’s why I said ‘if’ - I don’t mind doing basic research on the Isles record but I don’t particularly want to look up individual posters views on Barzal. The fact that I did the research to support your view might warrant a slightly less snarky remark - but I guess all of us trying to point out the obvious about Barzal are getting a bit tired of it

My view, which you assumed incorrectly, was literally in a post on the same page. The fact that you don't bother to read the discussion you're replying to, does indeed deserve a snarky remark.

Next time don't assume. That should be your takeaway lesson for the day.

Granlund to Stars. Winning streak may have f***ed up our chances at getting anything for Nelson
This!!! We will get shit in return for Nelson...Dallas was one of our big suitors for him. Doubt Lou trades him to Wash or anyone in our division. Toronto has shit to offer, Minny has no cap and no 1st rounders available. Colorado does not have any prospects beside Ritchie who they won't trade. We are screwed, thanks Lou

If Lou trades him, watch, 2 2nd rounders from Minny...that's it.

And Granlund/Ceci is for a 1st and a 4th (3rd if they reach the finals).
Thanks Lou, say goodbye to Dallas's interest in Nelson.

Minny is loving this, going to get Nelson pennies on the dollar.

Lou is going to look at a Perunovich type add at forward, it’s crazy to think he would even sell Nelson.

I don’t think this impacts Nelson outside of losing one suitor.
I think it does...To me, Dallas and Minny were the main players for Nelson.

Colorado - They don't have any prospects, their system is worst then ours. They are not moving Ritchie. So if you are ok with a 1st (maybe) and a lower round pick....Ok but in the beginning we were talking 1st, low round pick and a good prospect for Nelson.

Washington - Lou is not trading him within the division and Nelson won't re-sign there so this is a pure rental, so Washington wont give up the farm.

Winnipeg - Maybe, but remember, Nelson has say in where he goes. But if he agrees, this is probably our best bet.

Toronto - They suck and have nothing to offer..so I don't even consider them.

Minny - They have no 1st rounders (25 or 26), I would like to get a combo of Strombel, Ritchie, Heidt and/or Bankier. But now with less teams, Minny knows Nelson wants to play in Minnesota next year and go back home. They have all the leverage, we have NONE!

Brock nelson stock up.

Basically just a first for Granlund and a 3rd for Ceci

Stock went down...1 less team interested in Nelson. Wild knows Nelson wants to go back home. NO LEVERAGE

Whose fault is that? People here have been warned all season that they were way overselling the potential return on Nelson. Now a similar player is traded and the return isn’t exactly surprising if you were paying attention to deadline acquisitions from prior years.

The fault is Lou and Mgmt. not doubt....But how much and isles fans scream about this shit.

I agree. You can’t look at the Dallas move as anything other than one that diminishes the trade value for Nelson.

You mentioned Toronto in there and frankly I hadn’t even thought of them as a suitor. The more I think of it, I could see that happening. Nelly may have a good relationship with Tavares so maybe he would agree to go there ?? Lou has also dealt with the Leafs previously (Engvall). What does Toronto have to offer? Beats me, but I don’t do this for a living and nothing Lou does would surprise me.

All this nelson wants to go back home is ridiculous. Yes he and his wife are from there but they view themselves as Long Islanders. Buccigross just spewing stuff.

Warroad is closer to Winnipeg than Minneapolis.

Now if the isles don’t re-sign in the summer if he becomes a free agent and they don’t offer him a good deal of course Minnesota and other teams would be an option.

No, it’s YOUR fault for misjudging the market. You could look at what past rentals have gone for as a guide but you’re choosing to ignore that because you have to blame Lou for everything.

You're kidding me right?? He freaking goes back to Minny EVERY f***ING SUMMER!!! He's going back there, you act like Buccigross is the only one saying this. It comes for multiple media guys.

ahh, I got it...the Media about a month ago was stating Nelson was the #1 TDL targets for a lot of teams, up to 7 if I remember correctly. So yeah, I misjudged the market. It's Lou, because he's waiting too long. But we have gone down this road before witht this organization (JT?).

And by the way, do you really want to re-sign Nelson and pay him until he's 38 ??? This was the time to capitalize on his value and get younger players and restock and retool on the fly. Now guarantee we either lose Nelson for nothing or we double down on our stupidity and resign him giving hime a 4-5 year deal. lol I love this organization. We cant get out of our own way.

Nah, it's ok... it's not worth the effort.

Just say I'm probably right and we'll move on.

I don’t think you need to bother - the Isles record with Barzal is slightly better than without. This year the Isles are 14-15 with Barzal (including OT losses), and 9-12 without him. While W/L record with certain players is not particularly useful to assess the value of a player, this record comparison should at least put in serious doubt the idea that the Isles are better without Barzal than with him, which quite frankly, is a ridiculous position to take.

If your view is that the Isles are better without Barzal, then you are certainly not right. But probably best to move on.

Just for clarification, I was curious about the claims some posters were making so I looked it up. It started with something about the coaches, so I looked that up and posted it. Then there was something about Barzal increasing our offense, and now we've ended up taking it to wins and losses without. I don't care where anyone falls on whether they want to trade him, keep him, or pay his parking ticket, it's simply interesting. I also don't think it's as lopsided as people might think.

Anyway, here's the data on wins, losses, and points percentage in the two seasons he's missed considerable time.

*The red indicates the time missed

The reason I have two differing sets of dates for after his return this season was just to show where we were when the data was originally looked at, then I included what has happened after, and finally the total.

Looking at both seasons where he's lost time the team collects more points without him than with him. Unless my math is wrong, which is definitely possible.

People will get on you for your histrionics, but you’re not wrong - it seems our fans are laying the groundwork for the cope.

I’ll hold my complaints until we actually pass the trade deadline.

That’s where is family is from. That’s where he’s from. Why didn’t he go back there last time when and chose to sign long term contests? Majority of Minnesota NHLers go back to Minnesota in the summers and most of them train together.

The Isles have 5 tough games upcoming, 4 on the road, all against quality teams.

What happens to Lou’s grand plan when we get 3 points or less out of this stretch?

I’m not sure if there was any possibility of Lou making a deal for Nelson prior to this current win streak but this is heading towards a worst case scenario.

On a related note, if you think Nelson’s value has gone down what do you think the value of Palmieri is? For those keeping score, he’s 33, makes $5M and is tied for 121st in the league in goals scored this year with a terrible +/- stat (just like last year when he was team worst).
