Put simply, pretty different to the two seasons before that.

Seems to be a guy who - at least up to now - has done real well when there are no doubts about his role in a team and a certain security involved with it.

Seems to become very careful and average when he's one of the guys caught in the numbers game.

His 5-19-24 in 43 games in 21-22 was the kind of pace folks had expected him to regularly come in at over the course of his career, but PP time was involved there.

And George currently.

I would see a Boqvist pickup as another plug to keep afloat considering the injuries and a try-out period if he works under Roy.
Now that George is going to get sent to. The AHL, I would like to see if we can loan him to the Chicago Wolves than the shitshow in Bridgeport.

Isles 9-2 in their last 11 games and have killed 22 out of the 23 penalties in those 11 games.
Great job staying out of the box and killing them off when they do

So… is Lou going to hold onto Nelson/Palmieri just to fight teams like the Rangers to the death for that WC2?

Seems like a worthwhile cause.

Rangers win the trade, I think it’s crazy anyone is saying otherwise. Miller scored 100 points literally last season, the cap is going up and he’s only 8M.

I don’t care how old he is. This is their version of the Horvat trade, except in this case Miller is signed to a deal from before the massive cap raise was announced. Would have made a similar deal in a heartbeat

This was not an option for NYI - Miller had a no trade clause that allowed him to basically dictate a trade to NYR. The fantasy of Miller or Peterson for peanuts was always just that, a fantasy. Now that that situation is resolved, at least until the offseason, the Isles need to figure out what they’re going to do this season. I would guess a lot depends on the next 5 games before the 4 nations tourney.

Yes, more super cool fancy stats like how many goals your team scores vs. gives up while a you're on the ice. That's how they measure who wins a hockey game you know! But yeah, super esoteric and un-useful. Quick question, if you score 10 goals in a game but your opponent scores 11 is that good?

Also, maybe you've been too busy to notice but they put Barzal and Horvat back together at the beginning of January. Horvat has 8 goals in those 10 games... seem to remember him having a bit of a drought before that. Team is 8-2 over that stretch. That's what you want to break up?
I commend you for the time and energy you are putting into making those with disabilities feel connected to the community.

It is absurd that 2 individuals making a combined 148 million dollars over the next 8 years are so selfish that they sacrificed at the expense of their teammates a full season of hockey over a petty indifference.

They are both selfish childish shitheads and two players asking for that much money should not be the source of any personal problems on any team. The Isles do not need such low character individuals wearing the Islander uniform.
It's speculation, but many think this is more than just a petty indifference. The fact they couldn't get past it is leading many to assume this is more than just a hockey philosophy / work ethic thing and something more serious off the ice.

All good points

What needle is your $11.6M boy moving right now because I’m pretty sure it’s in the red. Why would anyone want to take on that headache with that price tag.

The Canucks should be able to dissolve both their contracts for breach of contract. There should be enough witnesses to show that these two were not acting professionally causing direct harm to their performance as well as the teams. This is costing that franchise a lot of money. I don’t know why that organization does not take this route.
Yeah, I mean what team isn't itching to subtract 180 points from their roster for nothing but cap space?

I looked at and posted the numbers with and without Barzal in the lineup (when he was out extended periods of time) and the stats didn't back this up. The team was better in most categories without him if I recall correctly. Here it is again in case you wanted to look at it:

As I mentioned in the posted I originally supplied that data: I am not a math wiz and was at work being interrupted while looking at some of the data so there could definitely be errors.

I'm not advocating for or against a deal involving the two players, but against this narrative that the team is so much better when he's playing than without. He's a very flawed player, like a few of us have been saying for quite some time, and a select few refuse to acknowledge it (not you).

I haven't looked at any of the Petterson numbers, other than what you provided, but my hesitation with acquiring a player like that is that he seems to be a bit mentally soft. Whether that's a fair judgement or not for me to make I don't know, given we don't know what exactly the dynamic is in that locker room. That said, you need to get talent in order to compete so finding a way to bring in more is always welcome and his age fits better than Miller for this team.

Just one note on the advanced stats, we've been looking at expected this and expected that for a decent chunk of time now but the expectations have rarely ever come to fruition. I think it's useful to tell part of the story but if the expectations never meet reality they're not nearly that important.
This shows me the Isles are better defensively with Barzal in the lineup.
