Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

if Perunavich and DeAngelo are part of future plans then trade Dobson at the draft for a good forward .

As good as he is I dont want Miller messing up our locker room

Very good point. Sometimes I get caught up in the only way I see this team is improving is via free agency or draft. Trades are difficult to make.

BUT any forward acquired for Dobson will also have his warts. It is a matter of what hill you die on- what flaws you are willing to live with and what are you not.

I think Miller would fit into this locker room and there is enough strength in the room to keep it in check.

Look, I don’t think I’d do a Dobson for Miller hockey trade because I think I want a younger player in return someone like MacTavish who has his best years ahead of him.

Cap jumping by 25% over next three years. Mcdavid, Marner, Matthews Hughes, Rantanen about to get PAID

This is good news - I hoped to see the 25-26 # increase more. I knew that 26-27 # would be a huge jump. I thought they tried to balance that out a bit more - instead of having a 7 m jump and then a 9m jump...

This winning streak got expensive for me. I was going to skip the Tampa and Florida games, but now I'm going. And actually looking forward to them. Did not expect that a few weeks ago.

A playoff rental and a cap dump for Pettersson? I don't follow the Canucks that much but surely Pettersson's value is worth way more then that
Oh full proposal would be 2025 first and 2027 3rd.

Vancouver can then flip Nelson or keep him. They are still in the playoffs.

NEWS FLASH!!!!

Per Hockey News:

Oilers Have a Better Points Percentage without McDavid

In 43 games with McDavid this season, Edmonton is 27-13-3. That means the Oilers have a slightly better points percentage when McDavid doesn’t play (.667) compared to when he does (.662)

Clearly he is a very flawed player. Perhaps we should see if we can get him for cheap and at the same time help the Oilers with their McDavid problem.

One thing I’d say about the Barzal vs. Pettersson debate is this:

Some who argue for EP40 have never actually watched him play when he’s struggling.

I follow the Canucks—they’ve been my second team since I moved out here almost 10 years ago. The same people who criticize Barzal would be furious if EP40 went through a slump while earning nearly $12M per season.

I love hockey. I played hockey. I coach my son's minor league hockey team. Watching a player like Barzal, with his elite puck-handling, skating, and speed, is a thing of beauty. He’s dynamic, creative, and electrifying.

I don’t want to watch chip-and-chase hockey. I want to see skill and speed on display. I want to see the game grow and evolve.

Barzal is the perfect balance for a team that works hard but lacks high-end skill. He enters the offensive zone with the puck on his stick better than almost anyone in the league. Opposing teams know this and key in on stopping him.

The Barzal debate won’t go away until one thing is solved:

He NEEDS to PRODUCE. Period.

The haters will keep hating until his production matches his skill.

He took a step forward last season—80 games, 80 points. This year, he's been shooting just 7% and has missed 25 games due to injury.

The team’s success doesn’t depend solely on Barzal, but he’s undoubtedly part of the solution.

I thought this team was done three games ago. Now? They’re right in the mix, and I don’t see them going away.

Playoff push—right or wrong—is here.

Pelech - Keep

Perunovich - 2025 try out

Boqvist - 2025 try out
Pulock - Keep
George - AHL
Cholowski - Waiver fodder
Reilly - Injury retirement

I basically view the long term like this?

I'm just speculating, but I think one of Dobson/Pelech/Pulock are moved in a hockey trade within a year, if not sooner.

Dobson as a base for a Pettersson trade is something I can see.

Hogberg, Engvall, Holmstrom, and now Boqvist on the Isles. All Swedes. If they're making a push for Pettersson, 4 Swedes on the roster certainly makes the transition easier. Add in the teammate history with Bo, I can see this unfolding.
