No way Lou looks to bring in Miller with Horvat here.

I mean, right?

Right?
Watching the interview with Horvat he said he left Vancouver due to the way they handled his contract negotiations. He didn't say anything about Miller and him having any friction. We are assuming they had an issue.

It's been rumored, but who knows if its just media embellishment.

Rosner has some Horvat quotes about Miller, it sounds like two alpha's.

'"Miller and I got along great. There's gonna be times when you're gonna cuss each other out. There's gonna be times when you're not gonna like somebody, but at the same time, you respect everybody," Horvat said. "You're all friends in there, you're all teammates, and you're all fighting towards the same goal. Are you gonna get along all the time? No, but at the same time, he and I had a good relationship."

I am just moving this here

I feel vindicated after seeing this - I've been banging the cap should be higher drum for the last 2 seasons.
IMO, the league was trying to get the PA to renegotiate in order to be flexible on the 5% max increase. PA, said sure - now PA gets more $ and the escrow is eliminated. We could see a cap close to 100m next season.
Freidman went through it yesterday on the pod. Might see the next few years figured out. Hopefully that doesn't lead us to overpay Dobson.

I'm pretty sure there's been rumors to this end, just like there are about Pettersson and Miller.

I mean, my buddies who follow Vancouver real close have verified the talk.

Even if it's just talk.

This said, I don't think any pro would really come out in an interview and say, "I wanted out because of this guy. What a punk." or "I'll miss a lot about where I used to play, but I won't miss this guy. He was bad news."

Ya know.

One way or another, I'm sure Lou won't make any move with respect to the well-knowns in Vancouver without having a long chat with Horvat first.

Or put differently:
If a former teammate of Horvat's is brought in from Vancouver, you gotta know it'll be with his full backing.

Character issues aside (and there have been several), Miller has been a heck of a player. He can be quite an impact player.

This JT Miller chatter... all I can hope is Lou is helping Van drive up the price for the NYR. I don't see how he thinks he would be a solution here, especially with the rumored Horvat relationship.
Miller has 433 points in 399 games for Vancouver in the 5 1/2 years there.

Super talented, but I'm not in the camp that he'd solve our current problems. I think we need a retool and pursuing him would be the opposite path.
It would be such a Lou move to bring in a soon to be 32 year old that is locked up long term. This team absolutely cannot afford to give up any picks/prospects, and especially not for an aging veteran.

Holding on to our 30+ year old UFA’s is also extremely damaging. We need to get ready to use that cap space to help the next core of Islanders players. And those types of trades whether it’s prospects or draft picks help the wave after them

I'm not sure what you mean, but CBA runs out in a year, so there is word that a new CBA will be done sooner than that and the goal is just before the Stanley Cup final begins.

There is no need to rush back Dobson.

Miller trade cannot be done soon enough. If Rangers win the Miller sweepstake - enter Carolina for Nelson - Nadeau and 2025 1st... they could then send Palmieri to LA or Dallas.
JGP to Ottawa and Varlamov to Washington

Washington reportedly inquired about Nelson as well

Great trades here, would love that. Washington checking in on Nelson also good news since they have a nice prospect pool

If they get hurt before he has the opportunity to trade them, maybe he actually gets fired?

If Lou doesn't get fired no matter what by end of season I'll lose faith in Malkin.

That said to not trade Nelson/Palmieri regardless of his job status will be the biggest missed opportunity since Malkin didn't authorize snow to trade Tavares.

You cannot let Nelson/any quality FA walk for nothing (when you're not a Cup contender). What a joke that would be and why I'd lose faith in Malkin.

Like the way you think and your knowledge of the overall NHL situation.

That said your post assumes that Lou is willing/planning to trade any of our guys before the deadline...And I just won't believe it until I see it. He is a stubborn hardhead when it comes to his principles (shaving, players having lower numbers, etc), that he could easily just let Nelson/Palmieri walk because he thought he could resign them this offseason (when he shouldn't be resigning them at all).

It's beyond time for Lou to go. Every time I break down his GM style it's just about the exact opposite of what you need from your GM when you want to compete for a Cup.
