We all know there’s a critical home stand now upon us. On paper, there are many winnable games. Now for the reality check. Our home record sucks, we have a terrible goal differential and we are bottom tier in the league for regulation wins. We just beat arguably the best team in the league in Vegas on the road. Nice win but shit like this happens with regularity in this league. Not to state the obvious but teams don’t win games on paper.

By now we know who the isles are. We have to believe what our eyes are showing us and it’s not good. This is the season to take a step back and reload, regardless of how the next few weeks go.

People don’t realize that the roster is only 1/2 of the equation. How a coach utilizes that roster can change the outlook for a team drastically. So when people bring up how this team did in the playoffs under Trotz/Lambert and assume the same results will happen after a full year under Roy I think that's making a wrong assumption.

Can anyone here argue at least based upon these last handful of games where the players themselves admit they have grown in confidence and that they are now as Lee put it playing hockey "the right way" that they are not playing like a different team 5 on 5? And if so how can you assume the results would not be any different if they were to just make the playoffs?

I've said it many times over the past 6 years the Trotz/Lambert system more often than not will not work against skilled teams. It's a pusher mentality to play not to lose, win by only 1 goal, and protect 1 goal leads. That is what Trotz preached and that is what Lambert called the right way to play hockey. It is not. That idea of collapsing around your goaltender to build an impenetrable wall is what led up exactly to the panic this team has been experiencing in late game collapses when confidence in that wall falls apart and the other teams in the league figure out how to beat a pusher. The system started off well enough until all the other teams in the NHL figured out Trotz/Lambert's gameplan and our goaltenders ended up getting assaulted and our players losing all confidence in their defensive abilities.

While I understand wanting Roy to achieve perfection by fixing everything including our special teams- which is not his primary role by the way, but to be able just fix that fear of losing mentality was a big step in the right direction. The Trotz/Lambert system of hockey had to be completely dismantled and rebuilt. Roy is on his way to accomplishing that. Special teams will follow. My thoughts are be patient. Just make the playoffs. See what happens after that.

crazy that a league average PP scores twice as many goals as we do.

Fun fact, league average PP would have us at -4 on the season. combine that with a league average PK would have us at +4 on the season. 19 goal swing that would bring us from 23rd to 14th in +-. You might think it would be bigger, but the team hasn't been taking many penalties or getting many power plays

Big part of why we had such a successful week. Keep it 5v5 we always have a chance. Because it’s absolutely true right now that we are basically going into each game 1-0 down because of the PK woes

This is a guy I’d like to revive our Power Play. Risky post injury but bottom of the league, honestly why not

Wish we were just left off the list entirely

While funny and understandable...I'd like that 10.6% PP to be plastered everywhere as a public stain on GM and coaching.

For context...That 10.6% PP% is 6th worst all time.

And some people would give Roy a shot at the GM position. Sound reasoning there Charlie.

Here’s another take on the 10.6% stat.

Let’s assume the Isles had consecutive 2 minute PPs for all 60 minutes of a regulation game. That would be 30 PPs. If you cash in on 10% of those chances then your team would score 3 goals the entire game.

Double yikes.
