Lou did sell when he got to the Leafs
he’s getting traded but his value is closer to a second and a third than a former first rounder who will probably be a full time NHLer next season. I’d be shocked if Varly waives his NMC too.

As it stands now I think the spots vacated by Nelson and Palmieri will be filled internally. Eiserman, Nelson, Jefferies, Finley… Maggio and dufour I guess will get a crack at them too. My guess is they go to Jefferies and Nelson but who knows.
Look Petey getting traded is already borderline fantasy and traded to the Isles is Pixar.

If Lou were to pull it off, then a corresponding move would need to happen to bring in someone who could sure up the PP - Provorov is a UFA and it would make sense that Palmieri assets could get flipped to land Provorov, who can then be resigned.

That is 2 trades by the deadline.

If the cap does not rise to over 92.5, then Isles would have to dump Pelech in the offseason to fill out a 4th line of players at the league minimum.

The is 1 trade in the offseason.

Also, Varly loved his time in Colorado.

Onto Finley, Nelson, Jefferies, and the other 2 underperforming AHL players.

Jefferies is not getting a job next season - don't rate him at all, not a top 6 that's for sure. Every team has a Jefferies on their AHL team.

Maggio and Dufour cannot hang or produce in the AHL - they are not sniffing this NHL roster.

Finely and Nelson - very excited, but with regard to Nelson - we have see this movie before - Bellows in the WJC. Nelson should stay in Notre Dame one more season and continue to develop - stay away from Bridgeport!

Finley turns pro and the Isles sign him, but he is not making the NHL immediately after college.

Finally, I disagree with you on Palmieri's trade value, but we will see what he goes for when he gets traded.

I'd keep Varly.

I'd add Petey if we could. I think a deal could be worked out that we send Nelson and Dobson as the basis. They have a future add and a replacement for this year down the middle.

In Petterson's lowest scoring year he had 27 goals in 68 games (32 goal pace). In Barzal's highest scoring year he had 23 goals in 80 games. Not the same.
Respectfully disagree. Maybe not the same but similar enough in my opinion. Both with exceptional vision and skating, however: both have a reluctance to shoot and sometimes shy away from the dirty areas. And yes, I watch a ton of Canucks games. Not sure if EP's game translates well to the east and metro. Plus his contract and term scares me as well as what the cost would be to acquire him. My humble opinion would be one of these players, not both but I do acknowledge I am more conservative than most.

This team needs to evaluate the roster and return to the original top line. Is Barzal a winger or a center? Ride Romanov and Dobson and keep them together.

I appreciate the response and dialogue.

Those who watch the Canucks regularly know; buyer beware on EP

Be good to attempt to get someone who can score. Think of it as Wally for AK.
I dunno the waiver claim rules, but if you claim someone, you have to give them a roster spot on the nhl team, no? Can’t put them on AHL team? If so, I don’t think isles have cap space to claim anyone. Would have to waive someone to accommodate. Waive Engvall again. Third times the charm, maybe someone claims him 😀

As much as I want to see this happen, it would show that Lou has a pulse especially someone who can score. Will it work? Maybe not but. Will he put in a claim? I doubt it !

In all seriousness, I know we've talked about Lou selling/not selling before but writing was on the wall when he didn't extend them in the offseason.

I don't think that means anything. Lou is 100% the type of guy who would NOT trade a pending UFA because he thought his team had (even the smallest) chance at the playoffs.

Or I could see Lou having a deal on the table for Nelson/Palmieri, it leak out, and Lou not trading them out of spite.

Hello!

What do you think happens with Nelson? Traded or re-signed? If he is traded, what are you guys looking for?

Cheers!
Probably more likely that he walks than is re-signed tbh. We’ll take whatever is the best offer, hoping for a first and a c prospect.

Hang in there, it gets better.

Avs don't have a first rounder to trade. NYR 2nd + B prospect is something we could part with. Nelson would be awesome get and I imagine we would lose a bidding contest with that offer.

I'd rather they get Ritchie than a pick.

Whats the point bringing in Kaliyev when you let go of Wally. They're the same player. They both can't score and that's why they both were waived. Should of just kept Wally then. 7 goals in 51 games last year does'nt scream to me someone who can score and if you want to go to his previous seasons, he pretty much put up around the same goals as Wally's previous seasons.

The vatrano extension is going to open up the flood gates for teams to start deferred money deals.

His cap his is lower than his actually value. Teams will now look to do this to lower cap hits.
The owners and GMs don’t care about the downstream impact on these, good luck to Vatrano when CA sends him a tax bill in the future on his deferred salary when he seeks to claim a new state (or country) as his residence to lower his tax bill. CA and NY love to crawl that money back.

Nothing to lose. Either he figures it out in a new environment and you have a new scoring option or he doesn’t and you let him go.

If Fasching is going to miss time I suppose Lou would make a claim on Kaliyey. I’d rather he called up Jeffries.

Feel for Fasching, he finally looked healthy and was getting one or 2 grade a chances a game. Didn’t finish on any of them of course but it was only a matter of time

so they can turn him into a Fasching type playing 5 minutes a game. No thanks, let him develop his game in the minors. Just wish our minor league team wasn't such a mess. Pretty bad when you have to consider calling up a prospect just so he doesn't get ruined by your minor league team that exists solely to develop prospects
