We had to trade for Horvat to play with Barzal. Now we have to trade for Pettersson to play with Horvat. When does it end?

It ends when the team has enough elite talent to win. They do not have nearly enough elite talent and I think you'd agree with that.

The trade posted above I would not accept though. If you want Dobson that is fine but he is also a close to elite piece (while I do not currently view his future as such). Teams would be lining up for him.

You could have all the cap money in the world, but if players don’t want to play for your destination or you pay the wrong players, it’s irrelevant in the short and long run.

Thinking cap space solves all problems is a fools errand.

If this rosner report is real I think you make the Dobson + both Nelsons trade. Danny Nelson’s stock seems to be way up because of the tournament, but he’s really been just ok in college. Some of the kids he’s playing against are three years younger than him.
Danny Nelson turned 19 in august. Most of the kids are 18 and 19. Guys like Moore and Leonard will be 20 this month. Hagens and martone are 18, mckenna and schaefer are 17

For those who want to mortgage the future or move Brazal & Dobson for Pettersson. Again, are you guys really looking at the whole situation?
  • His own GM called him immature and he needs to stop pouting when he things get tough in the press. WOW
  • Former players are coming out saying that he is very sensitive. Strike TWO
  • He has a 11.7M cap hit for the next 7 years.
  • Has had issues with teammates
Strike Three

So you want trade our 2 best trading chips (if we wanted to deal them at all) and/or our 1st rounder in which we now are sitting in the 5th spot for this player? How do you think he'll handle the NY press and criticism??

Sorry guys, again. We need to ride out this year. Just move the UFAs in Nelson and Parms. Get as much as we can for them. Go into the offseason with a new GM and Coach and plan a new direction for the organization and roster.

Use this 2025 1st rounder (high pick) to get a good solid youngster. Along with prospects such as Nelson & Eiserman looking good. High hopes for guys like Finley (leading college in goals), and for Bednarik, Pulkkinen and Gidlof.

LETS STAY THE COURSE GUYS....Get younger, get better young talent in this organization. Not trade everyone for 1 guy.

The Vancouver media might be exaggerating the Elias Pettersson situation. Even if there’s some truth to the rumours, an in-season trade feels improbable. The Canucks, despite a strong record, have underlying numbers that suggest their success may not be sustainable. If management decides to shake things up, it’s far more likely to happen in the offseason—perhaps just before the draft.

Could Pettersson fit with the Islanders? Absolutely. Pettersson’s elite skill set would make him a game-changer for the Islanders. But would it work from a roster construction and asset management perspective?

A Pettersson for Barzal - one-for-one swap works on paper, but personally, I’d stick with our guy.

A deal involving Noah Dobson, Brock Nelson, a 2025 first-round pick, and Pierre Engvall could entice Vancouver. But this raises a critical issue: who quarterbacks the power play? The Islanders don’t have a clear replacement in the pipeline. Ryan Pulock, Isaiah George, and Adam Pelech aren’t power-play specialists, and Mike Reilly, while serviceable, isn’t a long-term solution. Losing Dobson would create a glaring hole.

A three-Team Trade for Provorov - Trading Kyle Palmieri as part of a three-team deal to land Ivan Provorov might address some defensive concerns and provide a QB for the PP, but these two moves feel more like fantasy hockey than a realistic solution.

As tempting as it is to imagine these blockbuster moves, the Islanders’ issues won’t be solved by short-term gambles. The smarter play is to sell at the trade deadline and make meaningful changes in the offseason.

This approach allows the team to maximize the value of assets like Brock Nelson, Kyle Palmieri, and perhaps Jean-Gabriel Pageau while positioning themselves for a more sustainable future. Patience, not desperation, should guide the Isles’ decisions moving forward.

It was a gamble - whether it was calculated or not - the move when it happened would have been Barzal (signed long-term) for 2 months of Horvat.

Geez
Except Lou has retained every UFA-to be he traded for (including Horvat). Horvat was going into a not so great option set of teams with cap space either - may very well have been one of the reasons he signed - the other were not so great and Lou paid him before entering that world of unknown.

Ahh, thought he was 20. Rest of it stands, it’s 5 good games against no one of legal drinking ahe and people are treating him as untouchable. Let’s pump the breaks a little

FWIW the Long Island hockey press is nothing compared to Vancouver. It s like the only team they have.

Absolutely do not trade this year’s first. Would also prefer to trade Brock in a separate deal. Are people opposed to Dobson, Palmieri, Cizikas, D Nelson?

If the organization decides they don’t want to commit long term to Dobson, this is one way to parlay his value - it opens a big hole on the right side, but our top 6 becomes potentially scary next season.

First off, let's not be sarcastic is saying the LL hockey press is our news coverage. That's not being genuine.

I want to stay the course and build through our young players and picks. Why would we want to move D. Nelson when he is playing great in the world juniors? Looking like he's going to be a sure thing making it to the NHL. Him and Eiserman are a great start, along with a top 5 pick this year. And not to mention what youngsters and picks we are going to get (hopefully) for Brock and Parms. Stay the course, do not trade for EP who has some sensitivity issues.... To me it's HUGE Red flag when your GM criticizes the way he did with EP. HUGE red flag.

This is suppose to be their SUPERSTAR....No thank you. add that 11.7M tag for 7 years. I'll pass. If.....and only if we had to move Dobson, I'd go after a safer bet...what about a guy like Larkin? or Tage or Tuch in Buffalo.

Some of this is potentially linked to what Dobson and his agent are looking at for his next contract .

I could see him moving Dobson if the difference between the offer from nyi and the player agent is too wide of a gap to overcome .

would most certainly shop him league wide instead of just currency towards ep40

maybe Grier would move a guy like Eklund or Smith in a deal for Noah

I agree. The common refrain around here is we’re too old and slow, too many bad contracts, and always trade away 1sts. And now it’s ‘trade away the 1st and fast youth D Nelson for a guy with a bad contract!’ WTF???

This convinced me that the best course of action is to trade for Pettersson.
