If it was after the 1st of the year and teams were clearly out of the playoff race, there would be more available.

THE ATHLETIC: Jeremy Rutherford was recently asked if Brandon Saad, Jordan Binnington and Nick Leddy are the three St. Louis Blues players most likely to be moved by the March 7 trade deadline, assuming the club is out of playoff contention by then.

Would anyone here take a Chance on reacquiring Nick Leddy?
He could step in pretty easily, Good Left Handed Puck mover.
However not Sure the Blues would move him this early in the year unless blown away with an offer...
They are a .500% Club right now.
Also there are Cap considerations thanks to the worthless contact of Pierre "The Egg-Carrying" Engvall.
4 Mil per season and on the books for next year too.
We got Lucky with Reilly last year...

This team needs a serious youth and talent movement. The sooner that happens the sooner we can start being serious about Cup aspirations.

Pelech was a product of Trotz ultimately. Guys like him are not worth those long term contracts, and as a result its just killed the islanders mobility on defense.

MacLean has been the PP coach for how long? Barzal has been on the PP for how long? Maybe it is Barzal more than we are led to believe. We will now get a 4-6 week look at the PP though and see who is right here.

I don’t disagree Pelech’s game was helped by Trotz I also think injuries have taken a toll on Pelech. He is likely one hit away from never playing again. I doubt he finishes out his contract. More likely he winds up on LTIR. Every team knows this and likely makes his contract immovable.

so was every guy in front of him with barzal...all we do is scapegoat the coach. its the players and always has been. fact is barzal is great at the zone entry and sucks at everything else on that PP.

The Islanders would need to draft players like Johnson, Stankoven, Harley, Heiskanen, Hintz, Robertson, and then sign players like Pavelski and Duchene.

Sure. It doesn't change the fact though that the only way you are seeing out of this is to draft all those types of players which is asking for a lot. Even if they put all their money into scouting there is a high chance they never replicate what the Stars have.

Trade Nelson and Palmieri if this team fails over the next month, recoup assets, and keep your draft picks to go from there.

Oh and yes I will throw this out there be open to trading Barzal or Dobson.

and Bridgeport is easily one of the WORST AHL teams as well. The Islanders need to fix the smaller things. as a hockey franchise, the Islanders badly need help developing and creating youth. It isnt good.

Let's chill with the hyperbole. This fanbase has survived the Gang of 4, Spano, and wang. All Malkin has done is lead this team to back to back semnifinals and build the seemingly impossible first class new arena.

This fanbase is a lot stronger, loyal, and more resilient than you think - And they will be moreso for these owners.

What the Islanders need to do is what the Rangers did in 2018 and acknowledge that a rebuild or serious retool is needed. I'm not saying that Malkin Ledecky etc. need to go as far as penning that famous (or infamous) "Letter to the Fans" that the NYR did announcing and bracing their fans for a rebuild, but the template for initiating the retool/rebuild is there to follow.

After "The Letter", the NYR proceeded to trade fan favorites in Ryan McDonagh, JT Miller, Michael Grabner, and Rick Nash all by that TDL. All of those moves helped the NYR to stockpile picks/space to be where they are now. Those were 3 solid core pieces and a nice complimentary piece traded to usher in that new era for the NYR.

For us, I'd equate that to us needing to move out Pelech, Nelson, Palmieri, and Pageau at minimum at this TDL. They can work on the PR and moving on from Lee as Captain in the off-season rather than making a move like that in season, but those are 5 key players I would try to move on from in the NYR rebuild vein.

Whether or not that materializes is another story...

To add, I bet if the Wild are serious about competing in the playoffs this year, a package for the two Minnesota boys in Lee and Nelson returning to their home state to bolster Kaprizov and co.'s chances could be high on GM Bill Guerin's wishlist.

But we BADLY need to also address our free agency issue. the islanders are so bad in free agency that it kills. we badly need that.

Love to see Barzal moved to Utah for a few younger players that could fit in now and are close to hitting their stride. Could be a win win for both teams.

Here’s the thing. The Isles have had stretches in the past several years where their alleged core players have folded, that includes Barzal and Dobson.

The isles need to strongly consider how these two core players don’t lead, step up, and carry a team when it is needed.

Barzal needs to be traded to reshuffle the roster and playing style.

Dobson is trending in Nurse/Jones territory since last season, so giving him a big payday based on his 70 points is a BAD move.
