Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

As far as Gleb goes, one of the Boston beat writers reported that Lou was able to sign him by offering immediate opportunity - sounds sort of like how he bagged Tsyplakov.

Probably just means they're not married to McLean. But it is interesting that he ended up here instead of the team that invited him to prospect camp (and reportedly tried to sign him).

Yep, saw all that. I think he's got a "Games played" bonus built in, which was the case for Tsyplakov as well and apparently isn't something Lou likes to dish out much.

I mentioned it another thread but I'm thinking that signing him was with the great hope that he'll be a player like Trent Frederic, which would understandly be a logical reason why Boston was so keen on him as well.

From my viewings, I'm just not expecting all that much right now. Certainly not right away.

Now I want to see if we add more after the Sweet Sixteen is completed.

Quinn Hutson seems like a logical target.

And this fella is a local boy...

*Hutson, not Hughes (like duh, ug).

I’m assuming you mean Hutson but I’ll take Hughes too!

Yeah, grabbing one of either of them would be really great. Seems like Beckman is helping out down there now, and we’ll see what we have in Pulkinnen. If Lou can bag a third college free agent that’ll be a great start to our prospect re-tool

Don't think he plays any role right now.

From what I've seen of his college play, he's a bit of a project.

Am enjoying it now but no telling what he is in Roy's plans come the fall.

He's gotta be. He's already falling apart in front of our eyes right now.

His departure is one of the keys to opening space up front for players who can lead to better things.
It's difficult to predict. Lou said there would be changes, the team would get younger, and there was interest in several players who made more sense to move at a later time. He also mentioned wanting to re-sign Palmieri—which contradicts the idea of getting younger.

If Pageau is moved in the offseason, another center would need to come back. I think Roy would prefer to have Barzal back at center, and Cizikas has looked good in his natural position. They also have Ritchie, who might benefit from starting in the AHL next season. So, I guess they don't necessarily have to make a move at centre.

They definitely lost a ton of depth, though

I assume Mayfield gets traded, and regardless of how he has played, they need to buy out or trade Engvall.

I agree regarding Engvall, but I can also see Lou keeping him as the cap hit is only 3m per year. I think it all depends on who else they sign/trade for this summer and how the overall cap is looking. Engvall is such an enigma.

The thing about buying out Engvall is that doesn’t it just cost the same amount to bury him in Bridgeport? Except if we buy him out we’re paying for him after his contract would have ended right?

I think for that reason he stays, but isn’t guaranteed a roster spot next year. Mayfield feels different although the situation is largely the same, give or take 350k. I don’t think they’d send him to Bridgeport out of respect, and I feel like Lou would even pay to move him to keep from needing to do that if it came down to it.

Although there's absolutely no-one in the system ready to step into a top 9 NHL job, I wouldn't worry too much about filling holes at this point. There's a whole summer of free agency ahead.

I'm most interested in seeing how Lou keeps all the most valuable RFAs plus DeAngelo (and preferrably Reilly) in the fold while also getting rid of Pageau and Mayfield. Engvall can be buried, if need be. But his departure isn't nearly as necessary as the aforementioned two.

And I don't equate re-signing Palmieri with "getting better". Not in any way.

I'm also not exactly thrilled with having Duclair around another 3 seasons but I don't see anything happening there.

This enigma Engvall looks dangerous every game lately (all of a sudden) He does make a difference when playing this way. My dime store memory recalls same thing happened last year. Think Lou keeps him around next year with the same drill of being scratched, buried in the AHL if he turns into a pumpkin again. For now, let's run with this horse and get in the playoffs just to piss off Perif and co LGI

Seems to me Lou is planning to recreate the 2022-2025 Islanders with his preponderance of bottom 6 players. Now I realize those are the easiest guys to replace but I want to see an emphasis on skill and speed. Right now the only 2 forwards who fit that description are Danny Nelson and Cole Eiserman.

Boqvist keeps moving up the forward lineup - fourth line, now third line.

Is he the “Winger Who Was Promised”? The chosen one, to stand alongside Mat Barzal on the first line and lead him to glory?
