Roster Building XXVI: Picking Our Teeth Off the Ice

IIRC those stats are especially out of whack this season league wide but especially for the Canes. For reference Kucherov is recorded as having fewer takeaways this year than he did in the season where he only played 47. And Slavin is a good 10+ off his normal pace in takeaways while over DOUBLING last season in giveaways. The only two guys I would say the amount of variance between 23-24 and 24-25 kinda checks out are Burns and Orlov.

I wouldn't even say Orlov. Orlov was up and down last season as well, and especially down early in the 23-24 season when the Orlov-TDA experiment failed, so I'd expect his numbers to be in line with last season.

DREAM LIST FOR SUMMER OF ‘25!!
-Marner is coming to Raleigh for an extraordinary large sum of money.
If it’s a no from Marner as a ufa, then get Nick Ehlers. If Ehlers is a no get Broeser. One of these should be signed.
-Morrow & Nikision are starting D come October.
Then the big blockbuster during the draft : move Svechnikov for a top layer, plus some throw ins. 1)- for B.Tkachuk 2)-D Larkin 3)- Gibson & Zegras. 4)-A Tuch.
They need to come away with at least 3 of these 7-8 moves.
Thank you very much.
Any other suggestions??

Head to the Coast and enjoy a nice beach town before the hordes of folks visit. :)

Tough for me to do a deep dive until playoff season is over (but your thoughts are directionally right)

El capitan needs to call up his good buddy Crosby to leave his igloo.

Blake - Aho - Jarvis
Svech - KK - Stank
Martinook - Staal - Carrier
Hall - Jank - X

This is what we’ve got rolling into next year, if the Hall extension is indeed all but signed. I see a top six that’s a little too under-skilled for how undersized they are, trading Svech would only make that more glaring.

I personally would make major pursuits of Bennett and Ehlers, I think they’d slot in really well and mesh with what we like to do. Would require some real wheeling and dealing, I’ll be the first to say I genuinely have no idea how they’re going to want to approach it.

Re-upping Orlov might send a certain poster over the edge:

I doubt he’s back with the Canes, but could see a slim possibility if Morrow is jettisoned as part of a forward upgrade. I just don’t see them moving Morrow though. Don’t see Walker going anywhere, he’s been a fantastic fit. Gostisbehere is fine on the 3rd pair too, plus he and Walker have limited NTCs.

I can still see a world where any combination of Morrow, Ghost, and/or Walker get moved in the offseason. They all can stay and fit well, but even the guys we signed last offseason were great because they could be long term fits but could also be moveable if things went a certain direction. All that to say I could see them keeping Orlov and moving on from some of them. Maybe not the most likely outcome, but if he's comfortable here, it's possible.

"...will sign either with the Hurricanes or some other team." BOLD MOVE.

2c is gonna look different I have a feeling. It’ll be hard to keep nadeau off the team too if he has a good camp with the numbers he’s putting up this season. He could also be a great trade chip for a 2c. Just don’t see a world where you have Blake Jarvis stank nadeau all small right handed forwards in the lineup together

Lol, it’s Russian media, the slant of the question is clearly just wondering when he’ll come back to the KHL.

“Nikishin will re-sign for one more year, either with SKA or another team, then come to the NHL in 1-2 years” would be a meaningful update for NHL/Canes fans.
