It does take a lot of the heat off Tulsky. He had to wait for Dallas, and even then, was able to present an offer to the Canucks. But it was the Canucks who declined. So it wasn't a matter of Tulsky running out of time, but rather the Canucks rethinking things with that additional time.

Morrow was solid the other night and wasn’t taking the adventures that he had in the past.

I’d add, he showed a burns like rapid shot but always seemed to be on target.

IMHO, one of the big focuses we need to have the rest of the season is an easing in of Morrow to being a full time NHL player. He clearly has it figured out at the AHL level, and if we really aren't going to contend this year, why not spend the time getting him that training now so he can be ready to hit 2025-26 running, so we aren't easing in 2 rookies at the same time.

Agreed.....what I saw re: his play the other afternoon is pin-point passing (much more than just the goal), more positional play, his size in the zone (there was one scrum in which he used his body to push away one of the bigger Jets), an accurate shot (he gets it off fast and is very accurate).

Small sample size but he appears to be significantly improved yr over yr.

That way, you're basically entering FA with $36m in cap space needing to sign 5 forwards and a goalie. And if you can agree to an extension of Hall (he deserves a 2 year extension, IMHO, and also assume he won't command the same $6m aav he gets now) then you're probably looking at $31m-$32m to sign 4 forwards and a goalie. And a boatload of picks and prospects to dangle for trades.

also, and this is probably colored by necas, if morrow is really ready to play for the canes i don't want him to spend the last year of his elc next year in the ahl pissed off at the org for burying him. he may even think it a tactic to keep his bridge/rfa deal dundonsocheap.

i don't remember if the time necas was in the ahl, feeling he should be up, was the last of his elc but i do think it didn't help us down the road (in our relationship with him). maybe it pushed his rfa another year? though it may have been the right thing to do at the time, i honestly don't remember.

I'd like to be able to ideally bring in an RD who can pair with Slavin and move Morrow down (not with Nikishin) but that would mean Ghost-Morrow. Could be rough.

The challenge is Chatfield has a full NMC, and Walker and Ghost each have a 15 team NTC. So you don't have complete control over trading any of them.

Chat has too much value. Both in contract, and "want to be here". Slavin - Morrow, Nikishin - Chats gives a GREAT top 4 if Morrow continues and Nikishin is what he is supposed to be. We should play Morrow as much as possible, even sitting Walker if need be. f*** it, roll 7 D if you must. We've got to see if his play holds up.

At some point, Legault (6'3" 210lbs), is going to force the Canes to elevate him in the lineup or perhaps use as a trade asset.

Two more years of AHL seasoning & could be ready to replace Chatty or Walker on 3RD in '27-'28 (Walker would still have one year left) at a lower cost (his ELC ends after '26-'27 season)?

He has had a real solid AHL year and is only 21 (best +/- on the team).

Ufa’s for top line forwards is a hell no. Trade for term with the best guys you can find that fit the system over guys with higher skill. Mix the young group we have in with one or two additions and let the forward group become what it can be. Truly play Rod’s system with guys who can play it. Emphasize speed and young legs as it’s needed to play the style all year.

Never trade for a top line rental again.

I like Stank and Blake energy.

It depends on the guy forward wise. Ehlers or Nelson is one thing, throwing 14+ at Marner is another. Would rather do two top 6 guys and build the depth back than chase the dragon with one big time pickup. Even if that means Nadeau or Robidas is blocked for one more year

You never know. We're not a traditional hockey market, but we're a hockey market that traditionally wins series in the playoffs.

Ehlers and Duchene (if the contract is short) would be great signings, as well. I'd also be open to a short-term Marchand as a mentor to Jarvis and Stank, if Ehlers does not make it to market.

Take it with a grain of salt, but apparently we talked to Marner's agent at the deadline. He said Marner isn't interested in signing with Carolina right now, but "check back in the summer"

Come on now…even if there is only one team the player wants to sign with, it’s the agent’s job to get other offers to drive up the price.
