To me, Ehlers makes the most sense as a long-term add, out of all of the UFAs available. We have an embarrassment of riches of young talent on the right wing, but only Artamonov as a notable left-wing prospect. Ehlers would bridge that gap. If Winnipeg manages to retain him, though, I would not be against Marchand as a wily mentor to Stankoven and Jarvis for a couple of seasons. Duchene would also be an A+ add, but like Marchand, as a short-term play.

Have a hard time seeing Duchene leave what they got going on in Dallas. Ehlers though seems like he’s been a target for a while and he’s one guy I wouldn’t be afraid to give a long term deal to because his skating is so good

The Stars have Johnston, have a glaring need at RHD, and are going to be crunched for cap space. Offer Duchene something like a 1x11 in UFA, or something crazy like that, and see if he bites.

If Brady Tkachuk was to request out of Ott, what would we have to do to get him
Necas +.

On a serious note. You'd probably have to move either Blake or Svech as part of the deal to make it enticing for them, plus some really good futures.

We could throw together a really great rebuild package for them. But doubt they'd want that. We've got (5) first round picks over the next three drafts. I'd be open to move Atramanov or any other prospect not named "Nikishin" to get Tkachuk.

Offering a 34 year old Duchene 1 year and 11 million would never happen. I really doubt he’s in it for the money now anyways he already took 2 deals way below what he could get in free agency from other teams

Ottawa is slowly starting to look like a team that will start being a regular playoff contender relatively soon. There might be more juice to squeeze in the Pastrnak/McAvoy and Barzal/Dobson situations, as those clubs look like they're going to need to do a full rebuild very soon.

The key thing I said was "1 year". It may be a smart move tactically to find a player at a key position where the Canes pay the moon for one season. The next season, you can then split that cash with 8 year pacts to Stankoven, Nikishin, and Blake.

We have a bunch of expiring ELCs in 1-2 seasons. Stankoven, Morrow, and Blake all expire after next season. Nikishin's ELC expires in two seasons. Tactically-speaking, it'll be the correct move to limit the really long contracts to the best additions.

The Oilers have no young assets, let alone a Stankoven. If Holloway and Broberg were still on the team, it would definitely be a different story, but they squandered that by signing a bunch of UFA role guys and making themselves vulnerable to offer sheets. With that, their only shot would've been if Rantanen was going to sign with no one, in which case the Canes would've most likely own-rentaled him.

Rod absolutely trusts Jarvis, hes getting the hardest minutes on the ice.

So offseason, we have nearly 40m in cap, some teams are going to have to unload and UFAs looking to get paid.

Either we chance it on Defense with 2 rookies or make a swing again for Slavins partner.

We absolutely need a high scoring winger and center

So does Marner take 12mx7 (or trade for his rights and make it 8?) Could Ekblad and Bennett shake loose? Boeser extended for KK?

Gibson?

Marner - Aho - Boeser
Svech - Bennett - Jarvis
Martinook - Staal - Hall
Robinson - Jankowski - Stankoven

Slavin - Ekblad
Nikishin - Walker
Gost - Chatfield/Morrow

Gibson
Pk
Pass on Gibson. He is just as oft injured as Freddie and in my opinion I don't think he is as good as Freddie. If I'm going to have an oft injured goalie I'm going with the one I know.

They have been saying that for about 5 years now. Once they secure their first post season appearance in like the last decade than maybe I will believe that.

For me, if Dobson isn’t on the roster come preseason they’ve made a major mistake. By nature of the positions/roles, you’re going to have a fair share of options to really upgrade the top 6. RDs are so hard to come by, particularly top pairing ones. Use our stockpile of picks and prospects, send them a Blake or Stankoven, just outbid whoever you have to to get him in here and signed long term.

Uhh, I don't think it's likely that Dobson leaves the Islanders this offseason.

There’s been consistent and considerable noise about him being available/wanting out. Obviously i’m being hyperbolic by saying he basically has to be a Cane come next season, but he changed agents less than a month ago and he’s stuck on a perpetually mediocre team. If he goes to arbitration it walks him right to UFA. Curious what makes you think him being moved is unlikely?

Cause their GM clueless and really can’t decide what direction he wants to go

Because unlike Barzal, Dobson is around that age where he'll still be in his prime the next time that the Islanders could be good again in a rebuild scenario. I think that Barzal is the more likely guy that's available in a trade.
