Anyone who follows Cory Lavalette , he said rantanen refused to speak with the media today.
Not sure what to make of that. I think the guy wants to test FA but hasn't ruled us out yet. We still have the option for the 8th year even after the tdl.
Maybe he doesn't like being the center of attention. Maybe it's not he money. Who knows. I'm guessing he just doesn't know what he wants to do. Does Colorado even have the cap space to grab him back in USA at 12m plus?

Another thought. What if rantanen doesn't like instability. He may not want to sign anywhere until after the tdl so he can't n be traded, and wants a nmc for complete control so the avs thing doesn't happen again.
The question is are we willing to offer him 8x13.5 and beat every one else out? 8x14?

Thinking about the Canes reputation an area that doesn’t discussed much is that Canes are pretty loyal to their recruited players (ok Bunting was an exception).
If it was Rangers, Vegas, Colorado, some others, they would be shipping out Orlov, Burns, probably JR at the TDL to make their team better for the playoffs.
Right or wrong from a fans perspective, Canes won’t do that and that has to get some respect from the player base.

I remember this was a thing like 13 years ago, and everyone was excited the Canes brought in Stephen Yelle. Seems cyclical.
True, but big advantage for them as they have/had top shelf nhl stars.
Svetch should be but isn’t and after that it’s really a collection of good players plus Rod’s system that keeps us performing well (but never good enough for a cup).
Mikko was our hope but having seen him play for us I just don’t see him as the top shelf guy to get us over the top.
