The above post is really really smart, but unfortunately, the Avs can’t reacquire Rantanen - they’d have to wait one year after salary retention due to the salary retention rules.

Besides just that one tricky little rule, brilliant post no notes.

Yup, those GM's have a lot to think of!

Anyway, Felix Unger Sörum is quite skilled!

jfc indeed

Lacroix schooled!

Technically it was Chicago that ended up retaining the money on Rantanen, so I think we can actually go back to A+ no notes status for our pal jfc!

Technically the CBA has no rule against the TDA trade we were trying to do with Philly, but the league still nixed it for being kind-of against the no take-backsies on retention rule.

I mean, we could terminate the f***er and Avvy then sign him half price for the remainder of the season and trade us the loot for future considerations, but...

Re Bolts apparent pursuit of Tuch.

They were smart in getting a high quality player in Hagel (I know there were some on here that were strongly advocating for him too) in exchange for a couple of players and two late firsts in 23 and 24.

Tuch is older and only has one more year of cost control so I suspect the price would be lower but it aligns with their thought process that a known quantity NHL player is better than lower first round draft picks.

I tend to agree.

Outside fan here wanting to gain perspective on the type of return/value Canes would expect for Rantanen if he doesnt sign LT and is moved in a few days.

This is just purely for disecting valur expected by Canes and not trades expected or proposed by teams listed here.

Did not want to post a main board thread so thought the Canes board would be best source for info:

Trade 1 - FLO

To Canes: Anton Lundell + 2027 1st

Trade 2 - TB

To Canes - Cirelli + Geekie

Trade 3 - TOR

To Canes: Knies + Cowan

Trade 4 - WSH

To Canes: Protas + 2025 1st

Trade 5: NJD

To Canes: Nemec + Mercer + 2025 1st

Im ignoring need and fit for the other teams and wanted to see for the trades above which would meet the acceptable value threshold for Canes to deal Rantanen.

So in a perfect world the forward lineup game 1 of playoffs looks something like this after the deadline Friday?

Jarvis-aho-rantanen
Hall-KK-Blake
Marty-staal-svech
Robinson-?-carrier

Not convinced Roslovic is here past Friday and they need to upgrade on a centre of some kind. Assuming carrier is back and healthy he could reunite on the staal line and you could move Svech up. Defensively I don’t see any big adds unless it’s a veteran 6-7 guy who could slot ahead of Stillman but with Nikishin possibly coming maybe they wait it out
