Roster Building XXV: Winning Rantanen's Undying Love

Anyone else think the Canes are going to try to get Laine (in the offseason)to complete the Finish top line? Nikishin and morrow on ELCs. Pk and some bargain bin dumpster dive in net.

Dundons dream of 5-4 games every night coming true.

Would Montreal let Laine go? I know he’s a streaky player (and he’s been on a cold streak lately), but to my understanding, he loves that organization and the fans have really embraced him.

crazy enough the one guy I think we might go after is Marchand.

Another guy that I’d be surprised if he played in another uniform anytime soon. I think even if Boston commits to a full, break it all down, rebuild (which probably won’t happen), they’d keep Marchand around to act as the veteran presence.

If Marchand is traded (big if, that I don't think will happen) I think it's to Colorado or a Canadien team out West -- Winnipeg, Edmonton. I think we'd be interested in him but they'd do right by him and send him where he wants to go, which wouldn't be here.

I do think Laine at some point winds up a Cane, it just seems inevitable, but probably no sooner than next year at the deadline, more likely just as a UFA one day. Even if we do get him at some point I doubt he finds his long term home here (or anywhere, really). We have him for a few years maybe he does well with Aho, but for whatever reason it doesn't last long. Career mercenary.

Laine has fallen out of favor in Montreal due to lackadaisical play.....

I wonder if Carolina would ever try and move Kochetkov for a forward
Doubtful. Even at his current level of play a $2M goalie is a good value. Add in that goalies take longer to develop and he's still maturing into a starter and I doubt they move him.

They certainly won't move him until they have a younger goalie in place who they can rely on as at least part of the tandem moving forward. That's not Andersen; that's not Gibson.
