If any young guy has the chance to make the team outright if he impresses, it might be Suzuki replacing either Jost or Robinson. Even if Gunler really impresses in training camp, he is still exempt from waivers. I kind of feel as if the Canes are leaning towards making Nadeau-FUS-Blake the first line in Chicago.

Last night's quality of opponent aside, the new guys provide optimism for the upcoming year.
Both Walker and Roskovic had great goals with superb shots (Roskovic in particular) and Carrier looks like he is the perfect fit on Staal's line.

I thought Carrier’s play where he scored the delayed reaction goal was great. Out of all the newcomers, to me, he was the standout. Loved the way he used his size to get to the net. He might be a fit with Aho and Jarvis at some point if he keeps that up.
But yeah, Walker fit right in too and Roslovic didn’t look out of place on the top line. Gostisbehere had some nice plays leading 2 goals in transition as well. They’re going to need those sort of easy goals this year. Seems like the team realizes this as well, as they skated the puck in a ton more than dumping it in it seemed to me.
On the downside…they were playing the Panther’s C level guys. The first PP unit didn’t really generate much of anything and the Kotkaniemi line looked out of sorts. All that is being nit picky for the 2nd preseason game tho.

I'm curious to see if Morrow can cut it. If he's anything like Jake Bean was in his tenure, Rod's going to have an aneurysm coaching the kid. He will really need to learn the defensive scheme in the "A" before he can cut it with the Hurricanes. I feel like a mobile defenseman who focuses 100% on positioning and working guys out of the crease has a better chance of making our team and then learning some offensive chops.
There's a huge learning curve for everyone transitioning from college to pro. It's why 80%, give or take, of the most successful college guys in the business never see more than 10 NHL games. I'm sure we drafted Morrow because his ceiling is a #1 PP quarterback, and that ceiling is worth taking a gamble on other aspects of his game not working out.
Good points....in his brief snapshot LY he looked very mobile in the O zone.
I'm optimistic because I believe the staff in Raleigh and Chicago can teach the defensive side.

As long as Morrow can learn to be better than TDA in his own zone, he’ll be fine. You have to think the plan is for him to be the Burns replacement eventually if all goes well. So, he’s likely to play with Slavin if he hits that low bar in the coming years.
Slavin probably still has 3-4 more years of being able to cover for his partner in him.
Personally in 2yrs, this is how I see the D:
Slavin-Morrow
Nikishin-Walker
Gostisbehere-Chatfield
By then, guys like Badinka, Fransen, etc should be knocking on the door, ready to replace Chatfield and Gostisbehere.

I only made the connection some time this last week. I've got a squirrel in my back yard with the bushiest tail I've seen and I didn't want to name him George so I went with Jeb. Then I remembered JEB! and finally got the GLEB! stuff. Maybe you should spend some time around squirrels.
