Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

Don't get Will's hopes up.

How about a young sam Bennett, aka Will Cuylle? Patience is a lost art with this team though.

I actually think nyr have a lot prospects who can fit that role if they develop. Cuylle, othmann, berard can all have that grating style of play. At least 1 of oth or bb should be on the team next season. For prospects Sykora can also be that, granted might not be dirty but can agitate the opposition with his relentless forecheck, chemler seems to be able to lay a big hit now and then and Laba seems to play a grinding game. Hopefully at least 2 of them can make it in a bottom 6 road down the line. Hopefully they can land Brady Martin in this years draft, which could be nyr best option for a future middle 6 c similar to bennet. Though tbh id be more worried about lhd for this team over giving out money to bennet to play behind troch & miller.

I didn't know we were limited to only one?

I also think Laf has far more upside than Bennett and has grit as well, while also not going as far overboard.

I think the overall point is more, we need guys with grit and talent.

David Quinn coached a team full of kids and has beens in a transitional period. The Rangers had let player development drop towards the bottom of the league in the lead up to his hiring and we pretty much had a team with very little bottom 6 forward or defensive depth. Was he a good coach? Not really but it would have been hard for even a very good coach to get more out of the personnel that he had than he did. As examples a raw version of Neal Pionk became our top right defenseman something he really wasn't ready for. DeAngelo had offensive creativity galore but he couldn't defend worth a lick. Brett Howden should have been in the AHL at least his first pro season and probably his second season but he became a mainstay of our bottom 6. It was just a f***ed up team.

Should we have fired Quinn anyway? Yeah, I believe so. If he comes back as an assistant though---I see that as a different job and we should at least wait a little while to evaluate if he's up to it. I do think it f***ing odd though that he would come back. Anyone fired me and I couldn't get my job back through some grievance procedure (which is an FU in its own way) there's no way I'd ever work for them again under any f***ing circumstances.....just as a matter of pride. I guess I'm no Billy Martin.

If Martin is available at 12 assuming they keep the pick, and don’t take him, I will be mad. I feel Martin is a much safer pick. Reminds me of Ryan Hartman

The LHD projected to go in the first round don't really excite me except Aitcheson. I just think there will be a better center prospect on the board.

I'm much rather take a huge swing on Wang in the 2nd round and go center in the 1st round.
