Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

Agree to disagree, while he has an opening, just like Perreault does for a top 9 winger position, I don't see either cracking their respective NHL teams lineups in the fall.
wild guaranteed him a top 4C spot. They put it in his contract or otherwise he's going back to Russia. That's in his contract for every year. Wild's Gm has already said so also, and it's a big reason why Rossi is available

I still think Kreider and Z to Minnesota for Rossi makes sense. There are players both guys know on Minnesota, they are good, they have the cap and they have the need that both players fill exactly. It makes so much sense I know it won't happen. It would literally help everyone. Z probably wouldn't waive.

I dont get why Guerin is actively trying to get rid of Rossi.

Yes he's small but he has that bowling ball build

I know he would covet Kreider. Is there a way to convince Zibs to tag along and meet up with another bestie in Zucc. Three amigos.

+8M in cap space assuming Rossi gets $7M

Cuylle JTM Gabe
Panarin Rossi Laffy
Berard Tro Othmann

pipe dream, I know.
Gabe on the 1st line? Has not proved yet he can even play at this level. Same for Berard. If you are trading both CK and Zibs you better use the cap space to bring in another goal scorer, Both Zibs and CK had down years but its not unreasonable to assume you are letting 60 goals out the door. You get 25 back from Rossi so still down 35 goals. Until either Gabe and Berard prove themselves its fools gold assuming they will make up that difference. I can see one of them on the 4th line but I am not ready to insert them both in the top 3 and expect a seemless transition.

So true. Compete level is, on average, more important than speed. This is the bigger reason why Kakko isn’t what he could be and why Laf is inconsistent.

Speed isn't just top speed. I agree, how you compete matters, and how much you move your feet matters. That's Laf's biggest problem, not his top speed. His burt speed is the second big problem. Rangers playing man-on-man without speed was a problem. Barkov was in the 80 Percentile when it came to burst over 20 and skating distance. He moves his feet and he creates a 1st step separation when players are on him. His downfall is the top speed comparison to some other players.

Considering that the playoffs, as each round goes on, is less about hockey and more about compete level and embracing dirty play to win, skill never stops being important, but the hockey gets progressively uglier and tedious. Invariably, clutch and grab hockey rules the day. I get more bored of playoff hockey every year. I like physical, but picks and interference ramp up to astronomical levels and the league doesn’t give a rip because their only concern is extracting cash from fans with little thought of the integrity of the games.

They did not guarantee a NHL roster spot. There is a clause in his contract that says he could decline the assignment to the AHL and go play the rest of that season in the KHL. He has to learn the defensive side of the puck plus he's coming back from surgery. I think he has a shot but its not 100% guaranteed that he will be on the NHL roster.

The league doesn't want whistle after whistle, and teams are starting to do as much interference as possible. I don't think I've seen as much accumulative interference as I did during the last game between Florida and Carolina. The problem is the teams that aren't taking advantage of it end up getting called late in the second period when they make a borderline interference play. I don't see it stopping anytime soon and players need to adjust or they're going to be ripped when they don't produce in the playoffs.

I saw Kravtsov had a better KHL regular season. His playoff points were not so great. Does anyone think he found his game enough for the NHL yet?

Probably not. He benefited from 2 things as I see it. The first is a weaker league then it's ever been and the second in Maxim Shabanov.

I'd like the Rangers to sign that dude.

My proposal was 12+Kreider for Rossi+Hartman+Lambos+late pick. Gives us a young center, young LD prospect and another solid bottom 6 player in Hartman. Idk if the cap works though.
Hartman is a player that Rangers need. Doesn't he have am NMC? Hartman would be a good mentor for Othmann. I see Hartman as Othmann upside which isn't s bad thing.

Not sure if he has a NMC. These were my lines with those trades.

Panarin-Miller-Zibanejad
Cuylle-Rossi-Lafreniere
Othmann/Perreault-Trocheck-Hartman
Edstrom-Carrick-Rempe/Brodzinski

Give Rossi PP time and let that line grow together. We know Miller can produce with Mika on the 1st line and Panarin is Panarin. That 3rd line can forecheck and annoy the shit out of people.

The thing about Rossi is that he's available and yeah i understand he's small but who gives a shit? The kid can play and we need that. We talk about guys like McTavish and other young centers but Rossi is actually available. I don't think he's Gretzky but i'd love for Drury to get involved. Part of changing the culture is getting other young players in here. He's young enough to fit the next core and we don't have any other good young centers.

The reporting is they want late 1st round picks so idk where you’re pulling this from lol
This has been debunked . If you look through the Philly MN thing on here, it's been debunked. That crap was made up by a Philly blogger and was called out by MN beat writers. Even Philly fans said the guy makes crap up. Wild reporters have made it clear from the beginning is the ask a top 4 young winger. They aren't looking for picks. People need to stop falling for things on twitter

I don’t think Panarin would be of any interest to the wild outside of giving Kaprizov a Russian buddy to play with.

All of the marks they probably see as bad for Rossi also apply to Panarin who is a decade older.
Cmon. Rossi has a career total of 101 points. Saying that Minnesota wouldn’t be interested (if other team’s construct factors were made) is ridiculous.

He'll feel 100%, it's whether that 100% is still productive on the ice (and how long he can last at near 100%), plus the opportunity cost of putting him out there over someone else.

He certainly doesn't help us get quicker, or get us over the hump that is Florida, so I'm not sure why we'd even be looking at him - unless it was trying to talk him into a coaching role
Fine as a shut down center at the very least, can work a pp, pk, faceoffs, stuff you don't forget. He's not gonna cost a boat load so it is a high reward low risk deal.
