Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

Toews wouldn't be even considering this if he wasn't 100%. Id take him as 3c, pp2, pk
He'll feel 100%, it's whether that 100% is still productive on the ice (and how long he can last at near 100%), plus the opportunity cost of putting him out there over someone else.

He certainly doesn't help us get quicker, or get us over the hump that is Florida, so I'm not sure why we'd even be looking at him - unless it was trying to talk him into a coaching role

DeAngelo sucks, Toews sucks, Provorov sucks, most of the players that are available all suck and would be a gigantic waste of time. If you want a dman try to grab Gavrikov and go from there but honestly, just f***ing build from within. Give the young guys a shot and stop with the old bullshit names. After seeing the garbage effort the vets on this team put on the ice this year, we want to add more? Are you kidding me?

Maybe see if Panarin is interested in LA, target Clarke and cheap guys like Turcotte, and a 1st. Maybe like Panarin and Jones for Clarke, Turcotte, 1st, 2nd, another piece maybe. Then you can move Schneider to LD or trade him for peterka or Rossi

Someone told EF the Rangers are considering an awful lot of things. Very few things are off of the table. Chris Drury has a lot out there and if you want to talk to him about something, just let him know.

Drury needs to make significant changes. The roster and the team culture needs major changes. The same bad apples can't be back next season.

Hopefully, EF turns out to be correct. These Rangers beat writers have nearly everyone coming back and that would be disastrous. This isn't 1993 when the Rangers missed the playoffs and won the next season. I love hearing that nonsense from people who weren't even born in those years. They know nothing.

Don't forget the Rangers won the Presidents trophy in 1992. Oh the similarities it's destined that the Rangers win the cup next season! It's been written.

He also mentioned that former nyr assistant coach Dan muse interviewed for the pens coaching gig. Only mentioned I’ve seen to indicate Muse is no longer with nyr

Trading Miller and Laf would be Rangers 101. Never be patient. Never reward your drafted and developed players. Get someone else's. Sign someone else's. Trade all your guys or just never give em a shot.

Peterka is not a better 5v5 scorer then Laf.

Power is a slightly bigger, softer and worse Miller. If there is potential, that's one thing. But you don't trade Laf or Miller for him. Again. He is the worse player.

Provorov is average at best. We need a real defenseman. Gavrikov is the only guy.

I don't think it's as far fetched as is being made out to be that the Rangers trade some combo of Kreider, Panarin and Z.

Jones is gone.

Schneider is a tough one. He is in this in between where you want to see him in a new system and healthy. But he also has never been a great defensive player. But again sometimes who cares if he has the size, physicality, skating and speed to recover and move the puck up.

Jack McBain is a very good Bennet comparable. He is who I would try to get. Not Bennet himself.

Things need to change. There's limited flexibility to move Panarin this year or Mika at all. They need to pay Cuylle and K'Andre. For that reason alone, I dont see how Kreider is back. His trade protection can't save him because Drury can threaten him with waivers like Goodrow and Trouba. Its a business decision. Kreider can go be Corey Perry for some other team, but the Rangers cant pay an old broken down guy 6.5 mil to do nothing at even strength. Even his defenders have to acknowledge that reality.

The team needs are clearly a left D who can move the puck under duress and a young center with offensive talent. Wingers are so easily replaceable and the Rangers have a ton, especially now that Mika is one. The Rangers have plenty of young talent to create an effective bottom 6. KAM or Schneider could go because they have value to other teams. Lafreniere has shown flashes and has cost certainty. Im listening on all these guys. Othmann and even Perreault are not untouchable. Its funny how people get attached to these guys just because they are young. Leon Rose wasnt afraid to package fan favorites and homegrown guys for established players in areas of need and the Knicks jumped up to a new level. Drury could learn from that. This isnt a rebuild anymore. We have to think about team needs instead of making space for young players. I cant wait for people to misconstrue what I say as me wanting to sell the farm.

I do agree that the Rangers should hold on to Miller. I disagree that Miller is better than Power.

The same thing where I don't think most people who are pro Byram have really watched him applies to Power.

His game isn't nearly as sleepy/disengaged but he's the definition of a project. You're going to have to be willing to live through the warts in hopes that he figures it out and he's going to need the right tutor to put the pieces together.

Just because the Rangers may trade some youth doesnt mean we cant get youth back. Peterka, Power, Rossi, Byram, McBain, etc. I like these names. They fit needs and they are young. Its not a factor of trading our young players for aging vets. We have too many wings and a few defenseman who are about to get expensive but arent trustworthy.
