Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

So if I’m reading this properly, they signed him to a low base salary with lots of bonuses based on production and then subsequently took him off the PP. Basically limiting his potential earnings.

There’s two sides to every story. I’m not saying he’s squeaky clean but I don’t know this ‘reporter’

Not quite sure about the truth of the matter either, but being released from teams tracks with TDL. When you can trace this behavior all the way back to his suspensions in the OHL, at what point do you finally say this guy is just a shit person and it's not about the conspiracy theories about his political views.

Yup, it's a consistent pattern throughout his career at this point. We don't need to contort ourselves into pretzels to make excuses for this now decade long pattern. He's shown everyone who he is, maybe everyone should believe him.

Haven't checked the veracity of this; just seen it on Facebook. Pretty crazy stat though.

And you think they put saving a few bucks ahead of the team winning? See I would say TONY limited his potential earnings by not making himself indispensable on that PP... keeping with the "two sides to every story theme"...

He was a RFA and received a 2 year deal for $10m from Philly. They paid a 2nd + 3rd + 5th (I think?) for his rights. Clearly Carolina wasn’t willing to pay him that and so the sides decided to part ways. Not because they didn’t want him, but because he was slated to make a lot of money.

I can’t comment on why no one signed him after his Philly stint. He was bought out by them, oddly, because he and Torts apparently disagreed on things.

I’m sure part of it was the fact that some teams didn’t have a spot where he would fit and some didn’t want the perceived headache.

In saying all of that, I don’t give a shit about his political leanings and why that keeps coming up is annoying honestly. He’s a good offense generator from the back end both on the PP and at 5V5. He has been for years. He needs to be sheltered defensively for sure but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more than a few teams who would sign him for a low dollar one year deal.
You may have misunderstood what I was saying. I believe Carolina did bring him back after he was bought out by Philly. Carolina then let him go a second time. That is when he signed with the KHL. I do not care about who he votes for either. Fact is its been a long time since we had an option that did not turn off half the country. Will he get signed again? I do not know. Nobody signed him in the summer of 2024 but maybe they will give him a chance. I do not think it will be us but stranger things have happened.

Can we get back to the things that have a realistic possibility of actually happening?

Anyone have Vince's latest article ? Its about Sullivan but of course its behind a paywall which is crazy for Vince

It's an interesting idea because signing D'Angelo for 1-2M for a year could allow us to trade Fox and already have the PP1 replacement. We can then replace Fox with a bigger, meaner, dman who is more of the type that you need to win in the playoffs.

Trading a top 10 defenseman in the NHL on the premise we could replace his powerplay production with a guy who hasn't spent more than one season with an organization in half a decade is one of the dumbest ideas I've ever seen on this board and I spent several years reading that Boo Nieves was the answer to our 1C problem

Don't get too realistic, now!

Running it back with maybe some random grinder instead of Kreider is depressing me.

He might have had the only KO on this club the last few years as well when he rung the bell on the Islander/Sabre ? guy . I can't recall his name ...was fun watching ! Maybe if we sign a good mental health doc he will be awesome....plus the doc can work with Mika as well ...two for one deal....
I've been calling for one for Mika and Kreider all season. They need some Tony Robbins to get them all hyped up.
