Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

DeAngelo was challenging fans to fights outside of the garden when he was here. I think that was a much, much bigger issue in the eyes of management than anything else.

His issue has always been keeping his head on straight and its a shame because if he were able to do that, he would have been a pretty f***ing good player in this league with one of those 8+ million dollar per year contracts.

Its worth noting that he was the first of now I think 2 players who a team paid to go the f*** away (the other being Suter, whose Minnesota contract was the driving force behind BO #1.)
Do we have video of this? In an age where everyone has a camera i would assume if this were true there would he footage of it.

Kinda sounds like complete bs though.

Georgiev is universally hated in every room hes in. Nyr’s entire room hates him. Again, theres a reason he skated to the nyr bench after the colorado ot win in the garden his first time back and told the entire bench to f*** themselves
Forget his NYR stay. If he is a bargain contract wise and loved by his teammates why did every team in the NHL pass on him? Why is he having to move from team to team. Its not politics. Dolan supported Don as well. Id assume greater than 50% of managrment does.

I think something that could be a factor in UFA success playing for the Rangers and possibly even looking at players drafted, there is a mental fortitude aspect that needs to be looked into more.

It takes a lot to play in a major city like NYC. The Rangers amateur and professional scouts should be taking this into consideration and if they are, I don't think they asign a ton of value to it.

I think this is going to become a more important attribute as the years go on and there are more Gen Z players in the league then eventually Gen Alpha. I dont want to turn this in a generational debate, its something when looking back at say successful UFA signings, you have Panarin who was under the microscope in Russia then played in a big city like Chicago he has succeeded here in NY. Drury played in Buffalo, Gomez NJ, Redden Ottawa, Goodrow SJ/Tampa, Richards Tampa/Dallas, Trouba Winnipeg etc. All failed in NY in one level or another. The one exception is Trocheck (Canes/Panthers).

We half joke when we say the Rangers cannot develope young forwards. Could it be they can't handle the stressors of playing in NYC? Kakko and Laff do not strike me as type A personality.

Trying to look at this from a different lens. I'm probably way off. Lol

If the Canes buy out Kotkaniemi, we should be all over that. Good 3rd line center. He gets a raw deal cause they way over paid him. Maybe even trade for him with retention. He is a good buy low candidate.
He's f***ing awful & not part of the solution. We need more skill & guys who can put up points, not more grinders.

Honestly the only thing he would be here is a Kakko replacement. A maddening, under-producing 3rd liner to be our next whipping boy.

I think "polarizing" is the best way to describe TDA. Yeah sure, he's loved by his teammates. Not all of them though, and I'm not just talking about Georgiev here. And in the end, he's just not good enough. He's not great enough offensively to justify his poor defensive play. A fun and a productive player in some other levels. Not at the NHL level.

Maybe it does have to do with politics. Not what his political beliefs are per se, there are plenty of people in the NHL that probably have some opinions that are controversial. But if he can't shut up about them, it's going to wear on people. Even those, that agree with him. There were some rumblings about this behaviour when TDA got booted from here.

There's nothing more awkward and annoying than people who bring up politics at a workplace coffee break or lunch. I'd rather listen 10 hours of someone telling me what their 2 year old kid is doing, than 5mins of your average political discussion. And I don't think I'm alone with this opinion.

I don't even know what that means. I think suitors should what?

Again, nobody wanted him to have a NMC. Stop pretending you were one of the few. Anybody that said "We should sign Zibanejad" didn't say, sign him at him that cap/term with a NMC.
I'm making this brief b'c bern busy for a wk

The bold was clear in the context of the post being answered.

It might have been about Kreider, and whether or not a suitor would accept risk of dealing, esp anything signif, for an asset which has extensive risk due to obv medical conditions, and how no smart GM would give anything other than throw away bupkis for such a player until he can demonstrate being sufficiently healthy.

Might have been about Zib and saying why would a suitor take an overpaid player w/that much term? That's on top of hope of getting anything decent back on top of jettisoning a headache/team cancer. We HAVE TO eat the FULL MAX HALF

As to rest of it, there is no pretend here, except by you to ignore what the whole board has witnessed, that I have for years consistently stood vs any/all nmcs, esp since they were being given out like candy, then do for 1, gotta do for the other, saying instead to extent warranted/deserving, extensive ntcs instead

I don't give a rat's ass about not getting the very very very best player, presuming your assertion is correct.
I want guys who want to be HERE and will hustle.
Not demanding nmc which = too much power to the player is proof of that

And hey, listen to bern, start a trend!
Rs = no more nmcs
then every other club follows suit
and finally the prob goes away

mic drop

back to you post w'e

It was via his twitter. He was replying to fans telling them put up or shut up & settle things outside the garden. Not sure how serious he was, but he came off like a moron.

Polarizing is a good word. I view TDA as the NHL version of a slushie on a hot day. It looks really inviting until you slurp it down and get a brain freeze. 😭

Not happening re boeser. Only big ufa signing this offseason will be provorov for us
Thank god re Boeser. Whoever gives out that contract will regret it.

Why not Gavrikov instead of Provorov? It was reported around the deadline that the Kings would re-sign him, but at their breakup day Gavrikov sounded like he was expecting to go to UFA. Shesterkin and Gavrikov played at SKA together.

As a Freshman in college, K'Andre put up 22 points in 26 games. Emery put up 1 point in 31 games.

Miller is already more skilled than Emery ever will be barring unforseen development on the part of Emery.

I love drafting guys who produce 0.23 PPG against children. They always work out in the best league in the world.
I think fans are going to be really shocked when we replace Miller with their favorite mid-tier, point producing defensemen and see how awful they're on defense.
I think fans are going to be really shocked when we replace Miller with the next tall, lanky, skipped on out leg day because he was bigger than the rest, prospect.

Replacing Miller is tough. He's not good enough to land you a stud. But he's too good to replace with a player who struggles to defend or provides no puck retrieval skills. I'm not innocent here. Miller gets on my nerves and every eye-rolling play he makes I fear is ending up in the net. It feels like often those plays do result in goals, but replacing him is difficult.

I would take Gavrikov 10 out of 10 times over Provorov. I think he would be the ideal partner for Fox and only costs money. Like any UFA signing, I think it comes down to term more than AAV due to his age.

A D core that looks like the below while fully healthy coming off a longer offseason (hopefully) will be huge for this team next season.

Gavrikov - Fox
Miller - Borgen/Schneider
Soucy - Schneider/Borgen

I think the KAM stuff is a total bluff. It’s gonna be term or a bridge around the QO.

IMO with limited cap, FA options, the D is pretty set like it or not.

Gavrikov is really good and Provorov sucks, so this is a good suggestion.

This is roughly 2 years ago and scoring has increased.
1st Line: average of .9403 pts/game or 77 pts over 82 games
2nd Line: average of .6103 pts/game or 50 pts over 82 games
3rd Line: average of .4197 pts/game or 34 pts over 82 games
4th Line: average of .253435 pts/game or 20.8 pts over 82 games

Obviously you have a lot of meh teams, so your average is lower than top teams. I wouldn't say kotkaniemi is a maddening, under producing, considering he's getting the bottom of 3rd line minutes, and putting up 30 points or so. He put up 43 points when this average was taken. I'm not saying he's the right fit, but at a reduce cap, I think he's perfectly acceptable for a 3rd line role on certain teams without feeling like he's an under producing 3rd line player.

Let him be acceptable somewhere else. This fanbase would hate him.

Gavrikov is like the only good defenseman on the free agent market. If they are dealing KAM to fill a hole elsewhere and replacing him with Gavrikov, that makes sense, but be prepared to pay out the nose for a guy who is about to be in his 30s.

It's possible it can be different with Sullivan here. I doubt it though considering almost all coaches like the same things. I don't think many coaches have much use for small, third-pair defensemen, who don't play any significant special teams roll though. How many of those are there?

For reference here is the list of defenseman last year to play at least 41 games, be under 6 foot tall, play less than 2 mins/game on the PP, and less than 1 min/game on the PK

Sam Girard
Zac Jones
Jordan Spence
Troy Stecher

That is two full time players - Girard and Spence. So while Sullivan, or someone else, could like him it's not particularly likely.
Spence speaks 6-7 languages...he could replace Kreider...at least he must be a smart kid ...not sure on his D ?

If this is the case, it would appear as though Miller either doesn't want to sign long term or the Rangers are unwilling to give him a long term deal. I know people dislike Soucy but having him around as insurance in case Miller is traded makes some sense.
Soon after the trade was announced and most were perplexed by Soucy trade my explanation was that the Rangers might thought about having him as a hedge in case negotiations with Miller become “difficult”. If we want to connect to this rumor I’d guess that there’s a gap between how the team and the player think about long term deal. So completely agree if this is the case bringing Soucy makes more sense now.
