Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

DeAngelo as bottom pair seems pretty mediocre. He's terrible at defense and while he could move the puck it feels pretty shaky to play him there, I dunno

and as popular as he is purported to be he's also a distraction that the team doesn't need

Just because you dont agree with him politically does not mean he isnt a valuable player as a bottom pair dman on a sub $2mm contract. Hes also an extremely popular guy in every room hes in
not liking DeAngelo doesn't mean it's solely because of his political views. He is a goddamn moron regardless of that and he's a distraction.

I'm not sure we need to bring in DeAngelo when Perreault and Othmann are still looking to score their first NHL goal. Do we really need the circus in the locker room if he steals the puck from them?

Does miller not want to be here? He definitely has his warts but so do the rest of the defense. Wouldn’t make much sense to move him unless 1. He doesn’t want to sign long term 2. They’re getting an upgrade back in a trade or subsequent trade. Drury has shown his willingness to move on from players but key wouldn’t be at the top of my list this summer to move. Is he arbitration eligible?

Theres a reason i told you guys this below info a week ago 😉. Plan is to move kandre and have schneider play 2nd pair left D with borgen.

And im now telling you tony deangelo coming back to the rangers to play bottom pair rhd is FAR more realistic than you guys think.

You can save this and come back to me on July 1.

and when he isnt even considered by July 1, then what? Will we hear crickets from you?

What do the Rangers need the most on the team? Defenseman who can move the puck and guys who give a shit and play with piss and vinegar. These are two things deangelo brings to the table at a significant discount to market value.

It’s probably worth mentioning that the Rangers top players love him and want him back.
“Love” is a pretty strong word. LOL

If we shift Schneider to 2LD, I wouldn’t hate him for $1m. It’s just hilarious how you are trumpeting him as this extremely popular figure like he wasn’t bought out 4 times in a row.

DeAngelo was challenging fans to fights outside of the garden when he was here. I think that was a much, much bigger issue in the eyes of management than anything else.

His issue has always been keeping his head on straight and its a shame because if he were able to do that, he would have been a pretty f***ing good player in this league with one of those 8+ million dollar per year contracts.

Its worth noting that he was the first of now I think 2 players who a team paid to go the f*** away (the other being Suter, whose Minnesota contract was the driving force behind BO #1.)

I'm starting a new Jeopardy category. "Things that have a zero percent chance of happening":

What is Mika waiving for Buffalo, Minnesota or Utah?

What is Bread waiving for Buffalo, Minnesota or Utah?

What is LA trading Byfield?

What is Anaheim trading McTavish?

What is the Rangers signing DeAngelo?

What is me banging Sydney Sweeney?

Our team needs better defenders. I don't see how DeAngelo moves the needle forward. I can see how he moves it back. Unless transition passes is the only metric they care about.

About his attitude, he's 29 now. When he was with the Rangers, he was still just turning 25. His brain was barely fully formed. It's possible all the missed chances has made some improvements to his head and heart. Additionally, if the Rangers were to bring him back, you'd think the team would have a say. Normally, I'd say that is entirely on the GM but if he's cancerous, the players are going to not be happy.

UNLESS, Drury is signing ADA with the critical mission of driving all the soft stars batty so they demand to be traded.

Let’s not over sell him.
He was also not good at the defensive side of the game.

Ada has the trivia answer of “this player was paid to go away by two separate teams in less than 4 years and was under 25”

I mean if we are all looking at this statistically....

19 points in 35 games last year on the Islanders (11 at 5v5)
+2.3 CF% Rel @ 5v5

I mean if you're looking for a guy who you can sign for like $1.5m on a short term deal, assuming we are JUST looking at the stats, ADA is an effective player.

His relationship with Rod Brindamour was a catalyst for him to get a good contract from Philly. Does ADA have a similar relationship with Sullivan?

Let’s not over sell him.
He was also not good at the defensive side of the game.

Neither is Pionk and he just signed for 7/yr.

Pionk couldn't hold DeAngelo's jock offensively. DeAngelo had a season where he was top 5 in ES scoring with Marc Staal as his partner.

Thats the most irritating thing about his attitude - He was a budding star or just below star player who ended up punching his own ticket out of town because he wanted to punch everyone - Fans, coaches, teammates, refs, etc.

Not only did he leave a hole in the lineup, he torched his own value and they lost what would have at least been a really good trade asset for nothing.

Yeah he’s so popular and valuable he had to go play in Russia. And the only reason he was let back into the league was by a senile Lou Lamarillo on a desperate Isles team

f***ing summer hfboards

KAM gets a one year contract or gets traded. A two year contract brings him right to UFA. Drury isn’t that stupid.

Well maybe.

I still think the offseason revolves around Lafreniere. If the Rangers decide to move him, he brings back big time pieces. I think Buffalo is a likely destination but I wouldn’t rule out Ottawa. He could help them sell tickets.

Not solely but usually 95% of the reason with most people.

Why is he a moron and how is he a distraction?

He was one of adam fox’s best friends (was in his wedding), one of trochecks best friends and close with JT as well.

He took a larger number of senseless, irresponsible, lazy minor penalties in his short time as a Ranger than any defenseman I've ever seen. People forget. He couldn't push a wet pool noodle off the puck.

Since the Rangers are somewhat stuck with contracts this year, the solution is smart decisions on buy low players. Florida is thriving off of guys that were cast offs from other teams. That is the only way they make a vaguely fast turnaround. Bargain bin shopping. Forsling, Verhaeghe, Luostarinen, Mikkola: all significant players that were given up on by other teams. In the right environment, players can shine. The other goal is creating the right environment. Edmonton has a few of those guys as well. It isn't a coincidence that successful teams find ways to incorporate everyone into the system.

as a bottom pair dman, hes one of the best in the nhl. Im not advocating to sign him to play him top pair. Bottom pair dman who can move the puck, plays with an edge, well liked in the room and can easily slide in to run a pp if fox gets hurt. I give him 3 X $2 all day for ages 29-32. Would be an excellent piece of business.
