Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. He's probably wanting a two year deal and that's the end of the story. I mean, the Rangers can do that and still get assets for him at this or next year's TDL so I don't think there's a rush to move him this summer unless somebody throws a serious offer up that benefits the Rangers immediately.

Defensemen can "find it" later in their careers and that would be a shame to watch him figure it out elsewhere. He's got the tools to do just that if he can quit making boneheaded decisions under pressure.

If the Rangers do sign him you can kiss Kreider goodbye.
I suspect he wants more than 2 years...and Rangers don't want to go beyond that.

It's also profoundly insulting to Borgen
I don't know, I feel like Borgen was passable and a little bit better than the analytics people thought he would be, and it prompted the board to do this meme:

He still probably shouldn't be in the top 4. He's still nowhere near as good as Miller.

The idea people have suggested of Soucy-Borgen being a top 4 pair is absolutely diabolical.

size? check.
skating ability? check.
the whole blueprint is big mobile defenders.

they need attitude and to be coached up. The last time I remember the defenders being coached up was under Jacques Martin.

You do not trade KAM. It just doesn't make any sense unless it's a package for someone like Dahlin/Power coming back.

Basically, I think Borgen can work on the second pair if he's with someone excellent, a true 1B. McDonagh, or someone of that caliber. If he's the better of the two on the pairing, like with Soucy, then you're f***ed.

But yeah, Ideally he's a good third pairing guy who is first up in case of injury.

Maybe I'm being too hard on Soucy, but he was worse than De Haan in his limited time here. He'd be my number 6 just in front of Vaak at best. And I don't think that's worth 3.25 mil

KAM and Schneider for Power
middling draft pick in another decade for McDonagh
sign Dumoulin and Fabbro/Perbix for 3rd pairing

MacTruck Fox
Power Borgen
Dumoulin Fabbro/Perbix
Vaak

edit- forgot about Soucy... He may be the 3LD. I thought someone with some Sully experience would be the move.

Didn't K'Andre Miller have the most hits/60 of any dman on our team, including more than Trouba? I'm one of the biggest proponents of tuffness on our board but even I don't think Miller is as soft as people say he is. He's also one of the only guys on our team who can skate. Just play him with Fox, they were great together and compliment each other very well, one guy is sorta dumb but huge and an elite skater, the other guy is basically a brain in a jar. Put them together and you have a great Frankenstein pairing, then find a solid 2LD

He played much better once Borgen got here.

People remember his gaffes but seem to completely forget everything else. Last season was one of the worst team performances I remember. From their effort to execution to coaching. IT was dogshit all season. Can't judge defenseman accurately.

I don't see the issue with shopping K'Andre and I say that as someone whose preference would be to keep him.

Through his comments at break up day and from pieces of news throughout the season it's been made abundantly clear that he wants to get to UFA. So he's probably looking at a 2 year deal here. Combine that with the fact that his play has kind of stalled out (although I think he's still better than the narrative around him suggests) and he's at a point where he's one of the few tradeable assets on the team that could have pretty high value - it would be a dereliction of duty if Drury wasn't exploring the market. Aside from Laf, I think K'Andre is really the only piece I could see being moved as the center piece to potentially land something big.

Of course trading him, unless for another LD, just opens up another hole where we're already thin but we'd have to see what other moves are happening. I think I'd prefer to just sign K'Andre to a 2 year deal at around 5.5 or something in that range, see what he can do under Sullivan and reevaluate next offseason, but if you never know what's going to shake loose in the trade market.

To me, the obvious move here if you’re gonna move a defenseman is Schneider.

- He’s probably more well regarded around the league meaning he may have more value in a trade
- he’s signed for another year somewhat reasonably.
- He plays RD which allegedly is more valued than left.
- The Rangers have Fox and Borgen locked in on the right long term
- one of their top defensive prospects is a RD

Like the answer is right in front of Drury. Whether or not he wants to see it

Testing the market doesn't always mean they're gonna trade him. Considering the RFA status it's also a "well, if you're demanding this then we'll trade you or let you sit". Drury doesn't seem to be interested in players hardballing him at the moment and wants players who want to be here to win and not just be here because it's nice and they get paid well.
The trick of course is making the defense better and not just shuffling pieces and ending up worse.

I feel like Schneider could be better at defending and a more well rounded defenseman with some coaching up or something. Rangers D is just all loosy goosey out there freewheeling it while the forwards f*** around in the neutral zone and then we wonder why tehy're bad

Based on what? What evidence do you have to support that claim?
Theres a reason i told you guys this below info a week ago 😉. Plan is to move kandre and have schneider play 2nd pair left D with borgen.

And im now telling you tony deangelo coming back to the rangers to play bottom pair rhd is FAR more realistic than you guys think.

You can save this and come back to me on July 1.

I have some unflattering opinions of if Miller has what it takes to take more steps forward, but trading him now will almost certainly make us worse.

If he wants two years to maximize his career earnings, then give him two years. There's always a chance that he develops some missing pieces to his game, and that would give us two years to better address the gaping hole we have at LD.

And I mean, if we're fully committed to getting worse, then sure, do it. Just don't half-ass it again, and definitely don't use the draft pick this year.

Read my post you quoted. I told you guys a week ago kandre was being shopped.

Im typically about a week or so ahead of the writers/prognosticators dropping nuggets. I have better sources than them ;)

I did read your post. I'm not referring to Miller. I'm talking about bringing back DeAngelo.

What do the Rangers need the most on the team? Defenseman who can move the puck and guys who give a shit and play with piss and vinegar. These are two things deangelo brings to the table at a significant discount to market value.

It’s probably worth mentioning that the Rangers top players love him and want him back.

Im all aboard the trade Keandre train. Choo choo!!!!

Move him the f*** out. He might be one of the dumbest players i have seen play. His athleticism masks all his other many flaws. His next contract could have disaster written on it.

If u can get a good return now do it. This team is gonna suck next year most likely anyway.

No heart, no balls, led by Kreider the king of sulking. Disband this group of idiots.

DeAngelo is a f***ing moron and if Drury brings him in, it solidifies to me he also is a moron

The entire league basically told Tony he’s not good and to f*** off to Russia but yeah Chris, he’ll surely help this squad

I mean it's just good practice to know the market on your assets when trying to make a big shift. Miller is a really appealing player so it's no surprise multiple teams would ask about him.

Any Miller trade feels like it'll be judged on the "big picture" by the org as opposed to the immediate return. Assets out to get a partner for Fox. Miller out to recover those assets. Kreider out for a competent 2LD. Something like that.

I certainly have my own trepidations around who they might be targeting given who they've brought in lately but oh well. Can't control that.

Just because you dont agree with him politically does not mean he isnt a valuable player as a bottom pair dman on a sub $2mm contract. Hes also an extremely popular guy in every room hes in
