I like the idea of
JTM
Bennett
Trocheck

Down the middle.

3 PITA assholes. Hopefully it would change the dynamic on the ice and the locker room. Have to move on from the soft minded players no matter their talent…. You just can’t win without that attitude. It’s not the only thing but it’s a big piece to the puzzle

Attitude has always been the issue.

Guys like McDonagh and Mikkola played completely different when they were here compared to Tampa and Florida.

Team needs to play angry. We’re country club mumblers

I’d just like the point out the obvious that this thing is heavily skewed by the presence of Rempe and Edstrom.

Those are massive guys who don’t play a ton.

Zibanejad and Kreider have size but they aren’t willing to muck it up in the boards. We’ve seen the Kreider pool jump and deadlifting videos.

Panarin, for all of his selfish/hope/East-west passes that become turnovers and horrendous defense, is one of the best at winning board battles despite his small stature.

Barkov, Bennett, Reinhardt, Marchand, you name any player on Florida. They will grind you down in the corners. They will block shots. Marchand is tiny and that doesn’t stop him from being an amazing playoff performer. Bennett is only 6”1’. Erod is only 5”11’. Forsling and Schmidt are 6”0’. Marchand is 5”9’.

You need your leaders to be willing combatants. Everyone needs to grab an oar come playoff time. When was the last time you our core of Zibanejad, Kreider, or Panarin block a shot?

Will and skill matter more than size and strength. Size and strength are a nice to have, not a need to have.

EJ Hradek said he’s heard one team is willing to pay Bennett $10 million AAV. We can’t afford him, and even if we could that contract would be awful.

Not sure why some people are using FLA's dismantling of CAR as some sort of victory lap for anti-analytics. FLA are also one of the most dominant teams in the league as far as analytics are concerned.
Florida is good by way of simple stats, advanced analytics, eye test, size, depth...

Carolina is trying to do it by Moneyball alone. That gets them pretty far, but not over the hump. Especially against a team that has all that and then some.

The Rangers are a bigger and heavier (height/weight) than either Florida, Carolina, or Edmonton.

The Rangers definitely don't play a heavy game which is the point people are trying to make and they're right. Hopefully Sullivan can change that and we can be more of a north-south wear you down forechecking team. The figure skating stuff doesn't work but we also need to add the right guys. Can't just add big guys and expect things to change. It's a team mindset and that's why everyone needs to be on the same page. Right now, this team is all over the place. One line plays this way, one line plays that way.

Florida isn't doing anything unheard of, they are a well built team with excellent chemistry and they all buy in to play a certain way. It would be nice if we can do that at some point instead of having all these weird personality conflicts and moody players. Just gotta shut up and play at some point.

Parsinnen is intriguing if you look at his underlying numbers. He's a guy who has played very few minutes but has produced pretty well. He doesn't shy away from contact either. I feel like the Rangers could use another center that is more established but if you look at his scoring rate metrics @ 5v5 he's at 1.8 p/60 (he was actually at 2.8 p/60 with the Rangers in 11 games). Lundell during the regular season was at 2.1 p/60. They are practically the same age.

Sometimes the answer is to use the guys you have and surround them properly with guys who can augment their game. The team has Laba and Roobreck in the AHL for next year. Both are bigger guys who skate well (Laba is a more powerful skater but a bit smaller than Roobreck). Why not give Parsinnen the season to see what he can do? Play him 14-15 minutes a game. Use the money saved to improve the defense.

Miller
Trochek
Parsinnen
Carrick

Zibanejad is likely to still be around to rotate in as needed

I agree. I feel like Parssinen is a player that a team like Florida would utilize well. I hope we give Parssinen a legit shot at 3C this year, not like we have anything to lose.

Ya he’s lived up to the contract
However moving him in his last year for assets has to be entertained.
No trade clause but he may want a change too

Considered. Unlikely though.

To fix NYR D and upgrade C depth, you need to move more than Kreider. Not a lot of good alternatives.

Zib is almost impossible to move.
Laf is young and may well still be a 65-70 point guy for another decade.
Panarin is the best player on the team but is 34 starting next year and has 1 year left.

Not an easy decision.

With those choices it’s very obvious, #3.

If that's the point then that should be the point. It's not the size of the dog.

No doubt. I think Drury proved he’s willing to shake it up based on all the in season moves

It’s going to be interesting

He has also played quite well at the WCs

Pagnotta says CAR asked about Knies instead when the two teams were talking about Rantanen. TOR said no. Says there are whispers that there will be more management/front office changes in TOR.

Says SEA is getting close on making a choice for HC.

Sounds like Ottawa is looking for a top 4 RHD. Pagnotta mentions Rasmus Andersson as a guy to watch. Entering final yr of contract. Says if the negotiations don't go well, CGY will try to move him around the draft.

Seems like Pagnotta thinks TOR could explore a Kreider trade. Seems more speculation than some solid rumor he's heard though.

I wouldn’t count Panarin in that group, in Columbus he was a dog on the forecheck. I think he’s the kind of player that does well with an in your face coach. He loved playing for Q and I didn’t see any complaints when he was under torts.
He's older now and doesn't skate the same. He was much more engaged with the forecheck early on for us. You can see how much the skating has started holding him back since he first signed.

what the hell does TOR have that we'd want for Kreider?? Cowan? Niemela?

Fine, i guess we’ll take Knies for Kreider if they are really pulling our arm.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the most successful recent examples of "winning with size and strength" were built around Kopitar and Barkov at 1C.

2 of the most complete dominant Cs of this generation. I don't think it's because they have a bunch of Soucys on the backend.
