Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Im fine with keeping Panarin for one more year but I have no interest in extending him. Might as well listen to the offers if he's willing to waive. Rangers want to make core changes and need cap space. Pretty simple calculus.
Rather deal him at the draft, they’d get more for him than they would at the TDL

I don't think Kaliev would fit Sally's structure

It's still an open question to me how much of Sullivan's structure from Pittsburgh he will implement here. Or if he'll stick to it. I'm just thinking of Tortorella coming to the Rangers preaching "safe is death" and then changing it when he realized he didn't have the players for it.

Coaches will bring things along with them, no doubt, but it's easier to implement something different when you're coming into a new situation than when you have a continuity of players. Most likely, he'll try to implement the same structure, but we just don't know yet.

I'll echo the sentiment that I thought Kaliyev was actually pretty good in his short stint before his injury. He's a big body who could control the puck and his skating, while not fluid, was adequate. He also didn't seem shy about taking or giving contact. I'd like to see more if the team could find a spot for him. I also like that he just spams shots on net.

They can likely sign him for dirt cheap just making it a 1 way contract and he'll sign it. Should do it for 2 years as well. Quality depth on thr cheap is needed.

I bet he lives in a mansion

Ironically, I have been bringing up Fiala for a little while here but here were his stats this year:

$7.875m per year, 4 years left
60 points in 81 games
35g

Here is Zibanejad
$8.5m per year with 5 years left
62 points in 82 games
20g

The reason I keep bringing up Fiala is because I truly think the Kings will look to move on from him and with his contract, he won't have THAT many suitors. He's 28 years old. If LA wants to get more physical, that's fine, but their PP was 29th in the league this season. Panarin, for all of his shortfalls, would immediately make their PP better and that team, with even a slightly above average PP, may still be playing in the playoffs.

Panarin for Fiala + Clarke + __________

Maybe the Rangers send Zac Jones and one of their countless young large forwards and LA sends Turcotte.

29 years old Kuzmenko immediately improved Kings PP greatly.

Kings can trade old Kopitar for 34 years old and very expensive soft player Panarin.

Would Mika for Dach, Anderson be fair??

Habs looking for center depth and Rangers looking to get big players that have skill and are tough. Dach is a gamble.

I can't really see Sally trying a different scheme that doesn't include aggressive forecheck and quick transition. IMO Panarin would actually prefer it over Lavi's 1-3-1.

As far as Kaliev goes, I hope his post-surgery rehab turns into offseason prep for more speed and agility. Otherwise he's not a fit. He probably still won't be the first forward on the forecheck but he'd be an asset otherwise when board pressure is established and we do need more shots generation from lower lines.

Kopitar is a shadow of player he used to be. His contact expires next year and he will be 40 years old.
The version that he is right now would be our best center since Messier.

And also I don't really care. This group needs direction. If we had the opportunity to add an all-time great for a couple of years, I would do it. I said the same about Crosby.

De haan saying Drury is a communicator and personable while implying that our beat reporters are a bunch of washer-women doesn't really fit the narrative, eh?
Didn't de Haan also say that Drury brought him in with the expectation that he would play? Frequent communication isn't as important as effective and clear communication. Quality over quantity.

I like this guy. I like him on the ice and I like him off the ice. I respect that he wanted to play. The bridge is probably burnt but I kinda wish we gave him more of a chance.

He says his relationship with Drury was ok. :dunno:

I'm speculating here but maybe it was Laviolette that didn't want to rotate CDH in and Drury told him something to the effect of "hey, I'm not the coach, sorry" which he has every right to do.
