Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Do we have what it takes to land Owen Power?

KAM Fox
Power Borgen

Assuming Schneider will be in the package

Schneider, Kreider and our 1st. Is that close? Probably not

Power is hype and draft postion value at this point. Risk on, oversold.

Even Buffalo fans who want the world in return out one side of their mouth, would tell you out the other he is a defensive liability and his offence isnt potent enough to overlook that fact being its the nature of his titles position.

Ill reiterate previous comments ive made, that Michigan players are a product of their system and oft do not (not never) live up to their rep or draft poistion.

Red Baronson was the hockey wisperer and his coaching proteges in charge now carry the torch.

60-65 points for him would virtually make him an untouchable player and basically grant him unicorn status.

He would be one of less than a half dozen players in this league who put up those kinds of numbers (or better) while playing his style of game.
Yep. And if he can put up 45 points pretty much all at 5v5 at 22 years old… I can see him doing 60-65 by 25-26 years old. Hell even if he’s putting up 55 in his peak years that would be great, but I think he’s got runway to be even better.

That townhouse is 3 floors + the basement & probably has at least 4 BRs...how much more space would he need?
For a normal person that's more than enough space. But for a millionaire that's a bachelor's pad. He also might be wanting a real backyard and privacy. No sharing your wall with a neighbor and all of that city stuff.

It's actually 6 BR & 6 bathrooms, plenty of room for a family of 4. But I agree, If he's leaving the city for family reasons, it's probably so he can have some land with a pool, etc.

Here's the zillow link...

It’s too late now. The formative years are teens and early 20s.

It’s not that NO ONE develops after 23 but it’s an uphill battle. The Rangers blew his window.

He maybe was never gonna be Barkov but he should have been better than he is and the Rangers are very much to blame too.
There are SO MANY players that take another step at 24-25. I would argue it's actually quite common. The uphill battle is taking a LEAP at that age. Sometimes even 26-27.

We're not great at F development historically. A lot of that is picking the wrong players in the first place. Once it has been a year or two of transition, young players that get traded away will become pretty similar to what they "would have been anyway" if they were developed elsewhere.

JTM would have eventually been the same 28yo here if he never left. Kakko will become the same 28yo in Seattle (I hope he stays there and think it's a good fit) that he would have here if he stayed here.

I don't really believe in "ruining" prospects. The career numbers might take a hit because of early icetime and linemates, but their prime years will be what they will be.

There are some players that are 3rd line talents. Sometimes they latch onto a team, but a lot of teams would elect to put a rookie on that 3rd line spot instead. So it's tough.

Some of those players bounce around a little, but are bona fide useful players like Duclair, Fast, Hagelin, Namestnikov. Some go overseas like a Nigel Dawes.

Yakupov was going to become a Nigel Dawes, no matter which team developed him. Either could have had a 3rd line NHL career if they really wanted to. Draft pedigree be damned.

It's immaterial to me whether Cuylle gets good PP time or not. That's why we have 5v5 stats at our disposal.

Matter of fact, inflating his numbers is just chum for his agent.

I just want him to round out the edges in his game. He played a little bit more dumb when he started hanging around with the top six. I want to eradicate that entire tendency team-wide as I touched on yesterday.

Challenging him to be even better before we roll out PP1 time as a reward might not be a bad thing.
Actual player development? In this economy?

The idea of moving panarin to simply just move him makes zero logical sense. He remains one of the most impactful players in the sport. You dont move him unless you get a ha. Im talking byfield+

You want to resign him at 34 coming off his worst season or trade him while he has a lot of value?

Outside of the off the ice issues, Panarin has zero reason to waive his clause

And Mike Sullivan sure as hell didn’t sign up to trade away the only dynamic offensive winger this team has
People act like panarin is some bum. The guy is a player driver who shows up every single night. Hes arguably the best free agent signing in NY sports in the past 100 years

1) if trading him means we sign mitch marner, I mean okay. Im down.

2) what do you think the haul is?

Trading him to just to double down on the same issue of overpaying a winger is not something I would do when the team needs are on D at at C..

As for the return, it’s late on a school night. Ask me again when it becomes more of a possibility and not just something The Fourth Period is pulling out of his ass. I’ll have a better answer then.

As much as id love to move mika, I just dont see him waiving.

Therefore my ideal moves would be

- trade kreider for futures
- trade kandre and othmann for jack drury and samuel girard
- try to lock up cuylle and eat up ufa years
- sign provorov
- Let Gabe get a year in hartford

Panarin-JT-Mika
Cuylle-Trocheck-Laff
Berard-Drury-Brodzinski (yes I think brodz is a 3rd line winger in this league)
Edstrom-Carrick-Rempe
Parssinen

Provorov-Fox
Girard-Borgen
Soucy-Schneider
Vaak

I'd like to see Panarin and Schneider for Fiala, Clarke, rights to Gavrikov and a 1st.

Kreider and Z anywhere they want for picks/prospects.

Fiala-Miller-Perreault
Cuylle-Tro-Laf
Othmann-Brod/Parsinnen-Berard
Edstrom-Carrick-Rempe

Miller-Fox
Gav-Clarke
Soucy-Borgen
Vaak

Would have a crazy amount of cap space too.

Kakko has the same stats in Seattle with a larger role. I'm not buying this anymore. He's an effective 3rd line player on a good team, which is fine, but there were certainly higher hopes.

Lafreniere's biggest obstacle is between his ears.

I hope they both figure it out but the longer this goes on the less I blame the Rangers.
Yep. Kakko is a top six wing on a crummy team. Feed anyone those minutes any they’ll put up some points.
Not saying Kakko won’t ever get better but right now he isn’t a top sixer on a contender.
