Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

It's not realistic in any way, but I just wanna say that I would 100% run Hughes and Fox on the same roster.

My explanation is...f*** it? My plan for the powerplay is also f*** it.

You don't worry about things like that.
I just want to say I legit feel your face is completely matching your avatar when posting, haha

If Sullivan's style is predicated on speed, thats not a good sign for Lafreniere. More and more Im thinking the Rangers move him and I bet it will be a mutual breakup. Drury did right by him and prospective teams by getting his contract done just for cost and term certainty. Ship him to Buffalo or Vancouver and be done with it.
It's not as simple as ship him away, you have to get value back on a trade. What is the acceptable value going to be? I that's why I floated wallander and a pick, But if you're trading with Vancouver then you're going to be starting the whole process from behind because the Canucks are not going to want to be viewed as fleeced by the rangers by two trades within 4 months. Buffalo it would be a really tough situation to send your first overall pic within the same State. Could they get JJ and power in a deal without having to add a tremendous amount to laffy? Why would Buffalo do that? I mean it's Buffalo, they're usually good for a bad trade every season, but I would assume the rangers you need to add something reasonable to the deal. Could laffy with soucy or borgen work? Larry identified Fox and Schneider as part of the limited core here which kind of points at borgen with a question mark, He has a contract now with term just like laffy and those are something that teens like buffalo and Winnipeg really covet since they can't really attract free agents and sometimes struggle to retain players.

honestly, that could be true for just about 90% of the players in the league.

I just don't think it makes us any better.

I'm on the move on from Mika train, but I'm also not of the belief that what we saw from him last year is what we can expect next year.

I still believe Mika is a 70-80+ point player, I just don't like his perimeter style of play.
And I look at him as a guy that even if he gets the points doesn't really contribute a whole lot outside of that. He's not really a player that creates space or opens up options for line maids, he's a guy that capitalizes on opportunities created for him. Him at least a player like Larkin can also create opportunities for mine mates. And people are going to immediately point to assist totals but sometimes you create opportunity and options on the ice without actually touching the puck. Is speed makes defensive adjust. He's not top-tierly offense with his ability, what he has tools and attributes that the rest of this team lack and would create a different dimension to the Forward group that exists here. He's also not moving into his middle 30s with term left on his contract right now.

Also I may be in the minority but if there was something to work around laffy and Larkin I would look into that. Zib can go on the rw permanently and fill an area of weakness on this team and you run centers as

Miller
Larkin
Trocheck
Carick

That's solid center depth.

i wouldn't trade Miller either. if Laf was traded when he was playing well the reaction would be contingent on what the return was. trading him while his value is low is the dumbest possible time to do it.
Nice to hear about Miller, that comment wasn't so much at you specifically as it is the comments on this board lately.

I disagree about a reaction to a laffy trade, even if he was only playing "okay" people would be disappointed and critical if the return wasn't elite level since he's homegrown, a 1oa pick, someone that the fanbase has been forced to have patience with while he's struggled. His regression this year was so sharp and infuriating I think some around the org are really wondering what exactly they signed long term now that 40+million is guaranteed to him. It's really disappointing for everyone.

He can’t crack this all star lineup?

Who is he displacing in the top 9?

Philly or Chicago can all but promise him a spot in (or at least a realistic path to) their top six.

I also wonder how much people have watched of him. He has some cool cellys and dresses like a douche nozzle so I understand why @EdJovanovski likes him but he isn't that good.

The real answers to this aren't realistic so you're right.

I wish Howard was a center. He’d have to earn a spot here on the wing. I think he could but that’s not really what these college free agents want when they can pick their teams

The team signing Borgen to a 5 year extension and immediately flipping him 6 months later would be hilarious. Would solidify for me that Drury is just making it up as he goes

And also that he's completely f***ing brutal and doesn't commit to anybody, which people will put entirely on the players, absolving Drury of any criticism.

It would be so Rangers to win the lottery in the weakest draft in years, the year before McKenna is eligible
I won’t claim to have watched any of these prospects, but from what I’ve read the top 5 in this draft is pretty solid and 6-13 or so are good but interchangeable. But after 13, there’s a huge drop off and a majority of those picks from 14-32 would be 2nd rounders in a typical year.

A deal around Laff for Power would make some sense based on their age, contracts, draft position, team needs and performance history.

Then a trade centered around K. Miller for Byfield.
A deal around Byfield for Miller would not make any sense for Kings based on their age, contracts, draft position and team needs.

LA would be interested in trading to NY Doughty and/or Kopitar, but not their 21 years old number one center.

The way the cap is shaping up Drury has no choice but to move out money. It’s why I think if KAM’s contract demands are above board he’s a goner. And if someone off sheets Cuylle (unlikely but possible after the success of Broberg/Holloway), Kreider will be the next vet to hit the waiver wire.

Is this a possibility? Can I help make it happen? Is there a fund I can donate to?

Blackpill circle jerk in full effect. Borgen is a good player signed to a cheap contract. This is a completely fabricated scenario but folks can’t help themselves I guess.
