Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Guys, I feel your pain but Zib isn't going anywhere .
I made the mistake of reflecting on this season a little, if Lindgren getting his jaw broken sticking up for Chytil in the preseason wasn't a bad omen I don't know what was.

Some random ideas for the "retool" as this seems to be the case according to all the pundits.

- Lets make Laff great again (insert he was never great at the NHL level) and move him back to his natural LW.
- Trade Kreider at 50% (he will most certainly get a solid return at that AAV) for a very good D prospect and a 2nd in 2027 that can become a 1st of the receiving team makes it to the cup finals in either of the 2 seasons.
- Trade K Miller for an equivalent young NHL roster forward, preferably either a center or RW. Move Schneider to the left and give him a solid look there after recovering from an injury he's had for 1.5 years.
- Extend Cuylle fornl at least 5 years. Lock in a solid AAV for a player that i think will continue to grow.
- Explore the market for Panarin. I dont see the Rangers extending him after this season. They should capitalize on getting very good assets for him.
- Sign Gavrikov
- Zib won't be able to be traded, move him to the RW on a line with JT Miller. The two seems to have some chemistry there.
- Unless Perreault shows an amazing jump forward in camp, let him start with top line minutes in Hartford.
- Give Edstrom a shot a 3C. I think he has what it takes to fill that role quite well.
- Trade Jones as it's clear the team doesn't want him whether that's right or not. Same with Parssinen and Kalieyv.

Laff - Miller - Zib
Panarin - Trocheck - (K. Miller Trade)
Cuylle - Edstrom - Othmann
Berard - Carrick - Rempe
Brodz

Gavrikov - Fox
Schneider - Borgen
Soucy - Vaak/Depth UFA signing
Depth UFA signing/Vaak

Lindgren getting his jaw broken wasn’t what killed the season, it was his jaw healing so soon

This is team that finishes in a WC spot or the 3 seed in the division, but they're not making any noise in the playoffs.

And ironically, the turning point of the season was getting half-starved Lindgren back in a fishbowl and forcing him onto the top pair.

I don't understand why people want to add wingers so badly when LD and 2/3C are the clear problem areas.

If we somehow get rid of Kreider AND Mika/Panarin in the same offseason I could see it- but otherwise another good center and an excellent minutes-devouring LD are the biggest priorities.

I'm alsoo curious what the more advanced metrics say about Gavrikov, given I see him play so infrequently. Guess I should try to catch the next Kings game.

How much will Ehlers command on the open market? I'm guessing around $7.5 AAV.

Another LW, and we already have Panarin, Kreider, Lafreniere, Cuylle, Othmann, Berard, and Perreault who are all natural LWs. It's a shame because Ehlers provides a lot of what we lack: solid puck possession, speed, and 5v5 scoring. Could Ehlers be an option if NYR trade Kreider?

There's a logjam of kids at wing and not enough spots for all of them. If San Jose doesn't win the draft lottery, maybe we can package Othmann or Berard and the 11th for San Jose's 3rd to draft Hagens. I've read there isn't much different between picks 4 and 12 so maybe San Jose would actually consider it.

He's good, but 24-25 is also a major outlier (his defense tends to be more 70's and 80's -- this year it's off the chart) so he's ripe for an overpayment.

And I know nobody is looking at these, but tbh, these and the eye test usually aren't that far apart. Front offices are noticing him.

I'm okay with starting Zibs with Miller, but if he plays like he did last Oct, I'd move him to Edstrom's right, move Othmann back to LW on that line and put Cuylle with Laf and Miller. One of Cuylle or Laf can play the RW, I don't care which, but Laf has done it for a couple of seasons now... If Miller and Cuylle bring back the bulldog in Laf we are f***ing COOKING with that line.

Also, PP1 of Fox, Pan, JT, Cuylle and Laf. I don't care who anyone thinks has "earned" it. This team needs to develop Cuylle and Laf's PP skills going forward. (I'm assuming we start Gabe in Hartford, too.)
