Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

The Avalanche played last night. Game 5. Down 3-2. Cale Makar. -4 in the series. No points. No goals for Colorado with him on the ice.

Willing his team to victory. Pushing the play. Speed and skill. The announcers talked about it. "Colorado's down by 4 goals, John."

Adam Fox. Can he play this style? He can't. Leg injury. 27. Mike Sullivan. Another Ranger. I hate all of them.

No, seriously, Adam Fox can't play like this. He's never been anywhere near this bad in a playoff series.
I was in Teams meeting, bustard! You got to give a warning cause I was laughing while very serious important matter were discussed...

I feel like if a big trade is going to be made this summer, it's going to be K'Andre or Schneider.

I know NYR love Schneider but with Fox and Borgen locked up, unless they're going to start playing Schneider with Fox then I just don't see what the plan is with him.

Couldnt agree more. Rangers need youth at center and they arent drafting one who is going to help anytime soon. Just using the Pinto idea as a placeholder but if you can move Schneider for him or a similar player you're looking at JT Top line, Pinto on line 2 and Trocheck in his appropriate spot as a forechecking 3C flanked by a couple young wingers. I like that a lot. Effective 3rd pair D are not hard to find, at least they shouldnt be. Jones can play the right side and Vaakanainen is more than capable in that role. Rangers also have RHD Emery as a former 1st rounder and Fortescue who will be pushing for a job by the end of next year in all likelihood.

If he declined, it depends on the reason. Honestly, if he declined so as to have more time to work on his game, his skating and his strength and conditioning, I'd applaud skipping the WCs.
I understand that thinking but do you think it might help him to be around guys that are already putting in that work as an example?

There is nothing flawed. It's a measurement based off on sensors in the players jersey. Whether or not it's important is an entirely different story.

You can't tell top speed visually on tv. It likely comes from a hard backcheck. McDavid is fast, and looks that fast, because he can do it all with the puck on his stuck and can stop/start/turn very quickly.

A rink is 114 feet long from one blue line to the next goal line. If already at top speed, the fastest forward in the league (Kupari) would do that in 3.17 seconds. The slowest forward in the league (Maroon) would do it in 3.89 seconds. That's a 0.8 second difference at the most extreme. The 25th fastest (Verhaeghe) would do it in 3.32 seconds.
Measurements are correct in terms of speed but usefulness of this metric is flawed. Processing speed between ears and speed of execution are much more valuable as you clearly outlined with the example.

Have we ever tried having the plan be something besides leaning on goaltending?

Not the worst strategy considering the random No. 1’s who’ve won a Cup or more. At the same time, if you have an obvious strength at a key position you definitely should build off it. In the Rangers’ case, history says it’s definitely better to have an elite goalie and pivot from there, that is unless you’re into the whole feast or famine thing. It’s also moot considering otherwise since it’s Igor or bust for the long-term future.

Schneider should be 100% the guy to go but he was also on the list Brooks' reported on as being "the Rangers core" - JT Miller, Trocheck, Cuylle, Fox, Schneider and Igor.

So either 4d chess from Drury leaking that (not likely) or they actually see "baby Trouba" as a core piece. How that fits in w Fox/Borgen remains to be seen.

Maybe? But really, coming off of the regular season, or early playoff exits, how much of it will be hard S&C practices as opposed to getting team familiarity? I don't think there will be a lot of basics or strength and conditioning...

He's been limited for more than a season by injury that hes getting surgery to correct, I'd personally see how he comes out of that.

Can Sullivan get him to attack on offense and defense?

I honestly do not know. I just hope something clicks for Laffy soon. He may be content to be a 20 goal 45 point guy but I'm hoping he wants to be a 35 goal 80 point guy. When I say want Im sure he wants to be better but does he want it enough to make it happen?
