Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

I don’t believe so, I think these things are overblown. If Eichel actually leaves Vegas I’d be surprised but if he does it’s probably here or Boston for him. I do wonder about McAvoy though. Especially if the Bruins struggle next season.
This feels like one of those things at the draft where Pierre McGuire would be like "this guy is Swedish, they have a Swedish guy!" meanwhile, there's 10 million people in Sweden.

Didn't Drury trade for Eichel's agent's son at the deadline? Just connecting the dots. Would be surprised if he doesn't sign here next summer as a UFA.
The guy who is a bottom sixer in the AHL and very unlikely to ever play for the Rangers, sure, I guess.

You have to replace Mika with someone and for all his warts he still put up 60+ points.

Addition by subtraction only works when the player is worse than a bench player.
Mika isn’t that bad, just not worth an 8.5m contract.

Panarin is the player likely to get the biggest return, so why wouldn’t we move him?
Right. But you are subtracting the 8.5 million AAV as well… not arguing whether that makes it addition by subtraction in THIS case, but it’s subtracting the player AND the 8.5 million cap deficit…

Speaking of which, you guys remember when we drafted Lias Andersson and Pierre high-key didn't know who he was and just goes "he's like uhh...Jesper Fast!" with absolutely no confidence and it was obvious that Fast was just the first Swedish guy he thought of?

Good times.

You don't always have to 'replace' points depending on production as a function of time on ice, obviously.

You could see Cuylle go up 20 points because of more ice time, in which case you're really only replacing 40 points which you could do with a 3rd line player like Kakko. Really depends on how you think young players will grow into bigger roles with more ice time.

I'm of the opinion that with a well coached team and consistency from Miller, Trocheck, and a solid third center (Whether that's Mika, Duchene, whomever) guys like Berard, Othmann, Perreault could be at 40 points+ sooner than later. Cuylle could be looking at 55+ if he spends the whole season playing 17-18 minutes a game. Might hit less, but still.

What would Mika's point totals be without powerplay time? We have other players who should be getting those minutes.

As for Panarin, Id move him if he's willing to go but hes only got a year left and is still productive. The Rangers will be looking to make the playoffs next year regradless. Might as well keep him around and move him at the deadline if the season goes south.

19 pts on the pp out of 62.
Not overly pp reliant.

I think the Fast comp was made because because he was seen as a guy you could plug anywhere in a line up and do okay.

I don't buy that Pierre didn't know who he was, Pierre knows who every prospect is. He's poster PB in real life.

My favorite part about that deal is Vegas literally gave him away for an UFA and you had people saying “this guy could be a future piece”

Like, if Vegas giving the guy away doesn’t tell you everything you need to know, idk what else to say

The “replacing the points” argument doesn’t do much for me. Individual production doesn’t correlate to winning games. This team’s issues are defensive in nature anyway

You need to win games. You win games by outscoring the other team.

Therein lies the problem. The guy is probably scouting Sweden u13 in his spare time.

How many Lias Andersson's do you think he's watched? How many Elias Andersson's do you think he's watched? He probably came across an Anders Liasson at some point.

If Drury takes the path of needing to lean into defense at the expense of offense, it really begs the question why he just paid the goalie $11.5M.

If he’s worth that much, you shouldn’t need to structure your entire team around being a defense first operation. Should be using him to paper over defensive deficiencies. Makes no sense.

Watching wpg is exactly why

FFS Panarin must be the most WHEN WE ARE MOVING HIM player of the last 5 years. LMAO.
Are you saying that because fans keep saying it during the offseason or that you personally have been feeling this for the past 5 seasons?

On the bright side, the team shouldn't have time overpay for 3rd/4th liners. Carrick, Rempe, Edstrom (who I'd like to see get some 3rd line minutes), Berard, Brodz (4th line/depth). Likely Othmann to start on the 3rd line.

Need to drain the swamp of at least 2 of the 3 in Zib, Kreider and Panarin.

Make a decision on K. Miller.

Give Perreault every opportunity in top line/top PP.
Outside of some nice passes and vision, Gabe looked lost and out of place for most of the minutes he was given. (Yes, I'm aware it was sample size). He's 19 and talented, so put him in a good position to succeed, but he needs to do a lot of workin during the offseason to be streamlined into a consistent top line role, especially without several players being shipped out. I think Panarin is back and so is Zibanejad.

I don't know how people think otherwise. Both are BU alums, USA Hockey connection, both northeast guys. Just makes too much sense. Sullivan has to be the overwhelming favorite to be the next coach whether we agree with it or not.
This is a microcosm of the world we're living in. Drury is a guy who lacks loyalty but demands it for himself and will build an administration of cronies regardless of optimal fit otherwise. Does not mean Sullivan won't do a good job... but does mean it might not be the reason he's hired.

He'll get some AHL time next year barring some kind of crazy performance.

Ryan Leonard has looked similarly very lost.

where else could I get that feeling from if not from the fans online

there are people who are/were OK with Ryan furkin Strome. But Panarin has a mark on his back.

I'm not so sure Sullivan would be a good hire for Gabe. A BU guy coaching a BC top prospect? He could just as easily try to bury Gabe in the lineup because of the rivalry between the two schools.
