Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

I actually do at times, and I'm sorry if you think I'm condescending. Genuinely.

I know people are hesitant to believe things at times and that's why I let it go for awhile, to let a track record start to develop and show that there is info I share that is accurate in hopes it would develop a runway of sorts but then of course there are the posters (not saying you specifically) that just want to tear down anyone that has info. We all saw this with edge and others. People want more than what can safely be shared and then attack or get mad at people that need to be cautious and limited. Why is it incumbent on the people that do share the info here to do it to the acceptable level of everyone else without regard for themselves? At what point will people here just chase more people/info away like it has to others? This board used to have 3-5 really solid insiders that would each sporadically share info, and where are those people? They all left bc it wasn't worth sharing with the fans here anymore based on the BS they had to deal with.

Edge constantly chose the high road and warned for months he was about done bc of all the shit he would take here, I'm not edge and I'm not really worried about "coaching" people through keeping info coming from me the way he did. He was a true gentleman. At some point I'll probably just stop. After watching people rip others apart for year forgive me if I'm a little more brash than the way others were. In today's times there are more people than ever on this board that don't know what's going on and that are guessing but that post in absolutes and constantly condemn and ridicule other posters BUT they are just flat wrong to begin with and don't even know what they are saying.

You say I'm condescending? For years I have shared little nuggets here without being overt and then for over a year I've tried to share more while this org has gone into disarray, but then I take more shit from people then ever despite being proven correct. On a message board like this it isn't a one to one interaction, so what you read in a response or a post might be taken sourly but it's in response (directly or indirectly) to shit I've taken elsewhere on this board. And I get it with nyr fans, I really do. There is a segment that is passionate and doesn't really know anything about hockey and there are passionate fans that do know the game so they get pissy dealing with the truly clueless average fans that still don't even know how leetch broke his ankle. That level of discourse and conflict has become acceptable bc it's apparently okay for the more knowledgeable fans to shit on the average run of the mill fans, but somehow the next tier of informed people that still care to share info with the fans that are committed diehards get vilified bc they don't do it in a nice or big enough way?

It becomes exhausting to have darts thrown at you all the time and then expected to never fire them back. I still have people on here giving me shit when I post during breakup days saying "you don't know shit bc if you did you would have posted about "x" months ago" when in fact I DID post about "x" months ago. If you wouldn't get pissy and ornery at times then I give you credit and you're a better person than me...
Yeah, I mean you and I have butted heads at times over our differing takes, but rarely has it been truly confrontational and when it has it’s been ended with a “handshake” and respect. Message boards are hard sometimes because, as you said, most of us don’t really KNOW each other, the medium itself limits context and tone, and we can often be trying to respond to multiple people on multiple fronts, especially if we posted a take that is “unpopular.” It can get frustrating and it’s easy enough to mistake one person you are responding to with another. I know I’ve done that.
Anyway, it would be very boring if we all had the same opinion, so appreciating each other, even when we think someone is dead wrong, and not accusing each other of disingenuousness is kind of essential to making this place work. Just accusing someone of being full of shit achieves nothing but upping the animosity on the board. I hope it never gets to the point where you, or anyone else for that matter, see the aggravation outweighing the positives in the experience… like it seems Edge did. A little respect for each other goes a long way. We’re all just fans talking on the internet. Some of us may know a bit more than others, and that’s great, not a reason to give the person shit. Not everything is a f***ing competition, Amirite?
“In closing” I just try to appreciate everyone for what they bring, knowledge, insider stuff, insight, pleasant conversation, humor and over the top insanity (looking at you, EdJo, hahaha).
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

The decision to retain Drury is the major problem.

We are f***ed

Silver lining- if it all comes crashing down both Drury and Sullivan will be gone in 3 years and we will be FORCED into a new rebuild.

Makes it less fun that we're cynical but at least there is a timeline.

Don’t care about age. Give Gav a 5 year deal and trade KAM for a young C. Much better long term investment
I’m coming around to this line of thinking even though I think KAM has a shit ton of untapped potential. I’m starting to think he retires with it untapped.

To be fair....

Fox, Lafreniere, Cuylle, Perreault, Othmann, Berard, K'Andre, Schneider, Vaakanainen, Jones, Parssinen, Edstrom, Rempe are all 26 or younger.

Good young players? That's another story
I mean on Sullivan's end. I legitimately don't think he's been the head coach of a good prospect in the NHL.

I think all the cards being stacked in his favor is in reference to walking face-first into a roster that had Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, and Guentzel, and then on top of that facing like .650 goaltending on their second Cup run. He hasn't won anything after that.

Malkin and Letang have really been shells of themselves since the back to back Cups. The GMs in Pittsburgh have done a really horrible job, far worse than anything Gorton and Drury have done here, in terms of getting younger and faster. Their goaltending has also been horrendous. Crosby carries the load there but there's a reason Sullivan has lasted so long. It would be an uninspiring hire, but as long as the Rangers move out Kreider and Mika, who will play a ton under Sullivan, I think it can work.

Unless Dolan doesn’t pay up there is no chance Sully isn’t the coach. It’s an uninspired choice but let’s be honest, they were never going to make an inspired hire.

Chris Drury is trying to stop the bleeding, he’s not making moves and hiring coaches that aren’t helping win immediately

We're taking his toys away before we even hired him. That's not a great start.

He played Guentzel & Rust in the top 6 on both of their cup runs. Maata and Dumoulin were both high picks that played in their top 4 (I get they weren't exactly elite players). That's 4 guys 24 and under that were getting a lot of minutes on two cup winning teams.

The organization didn't exactly supply him with any young players the last 5 or so years because Rutherford wasn't interested in drafting at all for the entirety of his tenure in Pittsburgh.

He did just get extended and they arent going to tank lol. Why would you think they wouldnt be trying to win?

I think it’s a smart move. And they ain’t his toys yet, wouldn’t be till Oct.
If we want him to work with certain kinds of players we have to do our best to make them his best option.

There are definitely cons to hiring Sullivan but Id say he was being hamstrung quite a bit the last 5 years. The only positive about the roster has been Crosby.

Yeah, no one said anything about tanking. You bring that shit up constantly meanwhile it very rarely gets said by the peope you reply to lol

What’s Sullivan’s MO when it comes to young players?
He whispers to Crosby "Make him look good."

Look, I don't think any coach we get is going to turn this roster into cup contenders or be here long enough to see that cup win. They might luck their way through some playoff rounds like they've done for the last 15 or so years, but I think we're kidding ourselves if we see any coach coming in and being a long term solution with what we have.

I think it starts with wanting accountability, modern structure, and development to get the best out of the players.
