Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Soucy isn't the answer on the first pair but virtually no conclusions can be made on any of the defensemen on this roster regarding their defensive play with how horrid the structure was for this team and the lack of effective coaching that was taking place on that side of the puck. This is one of the biggest reasons I was upset that let lavy and Housley finish the season. The moment I heard Housley was hired I said of f***. I assume they kept lavy and Housley through the year as a solid to peca and muse so neither of those two guys became "tainted" with a bad record in the last 5-10 games that would impact the perception of them and their careers as they move forward. Just bad all the way around.

I haven't seen your take on Drury, assuming you have given one. Do you have any faith in his ability to fix the mess or is he going to get in his own way?

No team i watched this year was slower than the Rangers other than the Pens.

My only thought on this is related to comments about other coaches. People have mentioned Paul Maurice would be great, or other currently successful coaches. When you have talented players that are difference makers, your coaching moves look great. I am not sure this roster will do any coaches any favors. Sullivan is a good coach who also had Malkin and Crosby to execute his plan. I am not sure Sullivan, or any good coach, can do anything significant with this group until there is a heart transplant.

I never bought that he wasn’t gonna shake loose and end up here somehow, I’d be surprised if it isn’t official by end of the week, just seemed to be too much speculation and he was always listed as the number one choice

I think the only thing that may save them from this is that Boston has an opening too and I'm sure that he'd prefer to go there (local, in law on team, etc.)

Yea I’m not making an endorsement either way just seems inevitable and has seemed that way for a while now, we’ve just been waiting on when they let him go

Sully to Boston imo. Just because someone told Vince the Rangers wanted him back in 2021 doesn’t mean he’s getting the job now. Would be another Laviolette. I’m not into any retread coach unless Mika and Kreider are gone. It will be the same cycle.

He should RUN to the Chicago job, but he won’t.

Interesting to see if Crosby finally says “ I’m out” this summer and what other players might want out too, EK’s name has been bandied about a lot recently

Hopefully when he recieves and internalizes some coaching tips.

But, more likely, when NYR play him with a guy who can move the puck more effectively, and whose strengths and weaknesses regarding puck decisions, size, and skating all match with Millers.

I’d rather give Gavrikov 8+ than KAM 6+ on a long term deal. If you disagree with that you don’t understand where the salary cap is going.

This team needs both a new LD and Miller to be competitive.

Sullivan would be so predictable and so underwhelming.

The guy won with two top 30 players all time including a top 5, and made 4 Nations team USA look offensively inept.
