Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

No way the Rangers sign Marner. They aren’t committing 12,13,14 mil to a winger when our current 11.6 mil winger is a year from being off the books. I anticipate Drury will want to play in the Eichel/McDavid waters next summer. Rangers need that 1C.

Don’t expect long term deals anywhere with our RFAs. Maybe Cuylle if we move Kreider and/or Mika. KAM played himself out of a long term deal this year and could easily be traded. Rangers are going to put the full court press on to move Meeka. He represents the mentally weak, finger pointing mentality the team wants to move away from. It was never more apparent than the final week of the season with his comments. You’re already seeing it with Brooks article needling him for caring more about Team Sweden in meaningless tournaments than the team that pays his bills.

I expect Rangers to have interest in Sam Bennett but the stars really have to align for that to become a reality. I wouldn’t put us near the top of the favorites to sign him.

Muse, Peca, Knoblauch strike me as the clubhouse leaders for the Rangers HC job. Could see Torts as an assistant with some combo of the other 3 as HC and additional staff. The next coach has got to trust the kids more.

Since when is Knoblauch an option now?

You would have to trade Panarin if you want Marner. Cant have both.

Bridging K'Andre to UFA is kind of a stupid move. The guy has probably a healthy sum of trade value, and NYR are in an absolute disaster defensively without him on the left. I also hate him stylistically as a player more than any prominent NYR defenseman since Ozolinch, and I still think this.

You kind of either have to trade the guy and get a LHD back in return, or extend him for 7-8 years. This in between shit isn't gonna work for anyone except Miller.

NYR should consider moving Schneider/Borgen to the left permanently if Braden takes a step forward after his injury recovery, but that's still less than ideal. We need a (Good) blanket to play with Fox (Like what Emery is projected to become,) a Miller/2LHD-Schneider/Borgen 2nd pairing, and a PMD-Borgen/Schneider third pairing. That's two new LDs even with Miller here.

Go get Gustaf back from Detroit for free. Vaak becomes the 7th where he belongs.

How many times must it be said that the difference isn't in the actions the GMs took to improve their rosters?

As many times as it takes to convey that that really doesn't matter. Or it shouldn't. Having an hours long conversation about why you broke up with someone as opposed to a curt "It's not you, it's me" has the same results and neither is necessarily better than the other and the end result is the same.

I get it that you think there's a "right" way to do things (and, honestly, I prefer your way) but my point is exactly the same - neither way is "nice" and both resulted in crash and burns that none of the aforementioned players wanted.

Why would we want Knoblauch if he shows he's incapable of winning it all on a team with McDavid/Draisaitl?

Emery is at best going to become a 5 D who’s a liability with the puck on his stick. His player comp is a taller and way less gritty Ryan Lindgren. His only plus attribute is his skating.

Why people think he’s likely to become a Top 4 contributor is beyond me.

Umm.. the Tampa way didn't result in any kind of crash and burn. It led to a reaction so far away from crash and burn that the player was more than open to returning when the opportunity came up. It didn't create any kind of divide between the players still on the team and management. So no... the end result is not remotely the same beyond the transactions themselves. This isn't a video game, so the results don't end there.

I don't want either. Trade Panarin and add guys who will actually help us when it matters. And that doesn't mean we have to spend 14 million on one guy.
Marner got some heat last year, but he’s been pretty solid in the playoffs overall. 6 points in 3 game so far, and 56 over 60 in his career.

Jim Cerny Live with the ESPN guy (insert first name here) Wyshski. They throw out the possibility of McJesus.
Imagine McDavid, JT Miller and Trocheck down the middle.

I'm sure they'll try, as will 31 other teams.

I just don't see him coming to New York. He stays in Edmonton or goes home to Toronto.

You mean you weren't excited by his 1 point scored this season?

I have no idea what his upside is as I didn't get to see him at all this year, but I mean what NYR wanted him to be- which is a Faber type, according to the commentators at the draft anyways

I wonder how Brady T will feel when the Sens get swept away by Toronto…Ullmark has failed them and they can’t score.
He's going to go play with his brother in Florida. The Panthers will have cap space if they don't retain Bennett and they force Ekblad into the player assistance program, but is mysteriously out of it in time for Game 1 of the playoffs next April.

Emery- 0-22-22 in 88 NTDP games
