Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

The idea that something goes against the ‘spirit’ of a legal document is kind of funny. It’s a legal document. If there was something against it in ‘spirit’, it would be challenged and the case would be won. If not, then it’s not going against the spirit of the agreement.

And if the players dislike it, then add that as part of the negotiation next time and get a better legal team to think about the various scenarios. This wasn’t even that difficult of a scenario to envision occurring from a lawyers perspective who is actually worth their rate.

Mats Zuccarello had an agent in Europe who called Tortorella's hockey system "stone aged age hockey".

I think every team can win if they have smart management. Howie Roseman is probably the best executive in professional sports. The Eagles have their great years. They struggle a bit. Roseman hires Nick Sirianni. Selects Jalen Hurts in the 2nd round. Drafts DeVonta Smith in the first round and trades for AJ Brown in his prime. The Eagles use their first round picks on the premium spots. QB, WR, OL especially tackle, DL especially push rusher and CB. They are able spend the money on Barkley because they draft well. They need to add youth to the secondary. No problem. Quinyon Mitchell in the first round. Cooper DeJean in the second round.

The Rangers are run by morons. Imbeciles. John Tortorella. I hope the franchise implodes.
The Rangers....or a media member should float the Carberry to NYR's as a hockey story ASAP. Get the Caps riled up a bit and throw out a big number as he is likely making peanuts with the Caps and this will force them to pony up on his renewal when it comes up . I have no idea on how long his current deal is . I'd just like to see them stumble in their playoff series . LOL...

The Torts thing is real because our owner loves him.

I don’t know that he’d be HC, but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he were to return here in some advisory capacity
I don't know that I'd hate Torts in an advisory capacity. The thing about him is that he gives absolutely no f***s and won't play favorites. If something of that would rub off on the team without him actually coaching them then it might be helpful

Chickens should not be wearing letters . It is a physical game with emotions running high and neither of those guys react the way a leader should if something were to happen . They are the type to wait and see if somebody else would jump in ahead of them before they would ever get involved . They NEVER go out and try to change/swing the momentum in a game with a big hit or two .....A couple of mommy type boys that hate getting dirt on their footwear ....I know everybody can't be like that....all fine and dandy ! BUT.....on a hockey club you need to put guys in these roles that will lead and not TIP TOE around things . Sometimes you need to get down and dirty and that is simply not part of their makeup. Maybe we asked too much from them ???
These guys got the letters not because they're leaders exactly but because they're the buddy bunch

He signed a 4-year deal 2 years ago, making 3 mil per year.

Yea but we have an actual NHL goalie. Cant win a cup with shit goaltending. No matter how good the team in front of him is.
This is the conundrum. It's insane to not have a real G, and it's insane to pay the best ones. FLA overpaid, but they won. Bob had to "bounce back" to make that possible, but he did.

EDM would be scary with, let's say, Ullmark.

I dont disagree. However, panarins value will be most at the TDL where we can retain 50% and get massive value. Like look at what brock nelson got. One of the top prospects in hockey, 1st and a 3rd. Panarin is worth more than brock nelson.
Please…keep speaking this into reality.

Jim Cerny Live with the ESPN guy (insert first name here) Wyshski. They throw out the possibility of McJesus.
Imagine McDavid, JT Miller and Trocheck down the middle.

So two clowns speculate about the best in player in the world in NYC, just say it's clickbait and save everyone time...

Here’s my thoughts:
First watch this Will Borgen interview right after his contract extension.

There is a PR talking point. He goes out of his way to say that he doesn’t think there are any clicks[sic] in the room.
Strikes me as odd. The reporter didn’t ask a question about the rumored clique's.
I am a leader, have been since kindergarten.
When I was young, boys and girls would follow my lead. Carried over to my teenage years and then onto adulthood with those prospective peers.
As a leader or one of the leaders, the group always trusted that I had the best interest of the group at heart. There was no group within the group.
The most important aspect of being a good leader is to include anyone who wishes to be part of the group and as long as they played nice and respectful to the whole they would be a valued and protected member of the group. No one in the group would be allowed to abuse another member and if anyone outside the group would attack someone inside the group without cause then that person would feel the wrath of the entire group.
If there was cause, then the issue would be dealt with fairness and objectivity But always with the group member's psyche as the primary focus of the resolution.
The reason I bring up these points is because it was reported by more than one source (ie…Spitin Chicletes, Sportsnet, etc) that there was a group of veterans on the team that did not extend invitations to all members of the team and that Jacob Trouba was part of the “in” group. If true, that is damming.
When Zendo Chara took leadership of the Boston Bruin’s locker room, the first thing he did was stop rookie hazing.
Chara is a good leader. If you are on this team you are a Bruin. Not the idea that all Bruins are equal except some Bruins are more equal than other Bruins.

The New York rangers brand is much more about a business than it is hockey. People keep missing that and want the rangers to be about hockey first and business second. Big businesses manage pr to precision. I'm not sure why people here are surprised how much the nyr business team micromanages the pr world of the organization.

Take it for what you want but I've heard that some coaches aren't interested in our shit show. Between quick firings and locker room drama it's quickly become a non destination for coaches.

Thoroughly enjoyed hearing Molly, Boyle and Brooks rip the Rangers a new one in their podcast. One hour of nonstop bashing. Called them weak. Soft. Emotional. All the things.

Now get us a coach. Get rid of Kreider. Out with Bread. Out with Laf. Get me Bennet. Get me Marner. Get me Gavrikov. Get me Provorov.

So you want no weak soft players and say “bring me marner” … do you watch hockey?
I think Marner’s a great player and well worth what he’s being paid, he’s also allergic to contact.

We’re not rebuilding. That much is clear. We can add some pieces and remove some. But clearly we need more scoring. Marner helps us there.

He is also clutch. He’s talented. He’s responsible defensively. He works hard. He runs the PP. He back checks. He can play center if necessary. A more complete version of Panarin.

But no. I do not watch hockey.

Marner is clutch? He has a reputation for failing to perform in the playoffs, pretty much being run out of toronto

I think you're missing the part of this where Goodrow was claimed by a team on his NTC. That's what violates the spirit of it. There's also the sense that Drury knew a team on his NTC would be taking him and that was a factor in placing him on waivers.

And TB being nicer changes literally everything about how the players and teams reacted. It's the only thing that matters on this topic.
LOL @ "the spirit" of a contract

My electrician said the job would be done in a month. It took 6 months

I say that violates the "spirit" of the contract

It’s all BS. Rangers will throw more money to whoever they want, more than other teams. And if they get fired they are still collecting that massive paycheck, and can continue to find another one. Peter is still going to be getting paid by us for god knows how many years his contract was.

The playoff thing is really nonsense. He's scored 2.19 pts/60 his previous three playoff runs. That's better than Rantanen, Kucherov, Marchand, Barkov to name some. In that same time frame he was on the ice for 17 GF and 7 GA at 5v5.

He had some bad runs early in his career and once you're given a reputation you basically have that permanently. It hasn't been true for a long time.

He also had the horrible backcheck on the Pastrnak G7 OT goal.

I also said it’s a reputation he has. I didn’t say he was or wasn’t good in the playoffs. Someone said he was “clutch” which I wouldn’t exactly characterize him as considering his team has been out of R1 once in his career

I’ve seen multiple people say that, according to Toronto’s system, Pastrnak was Reilly’s responsibility on that goal, not Marner. I’m not excusing Marner on that play, just saying it might not be as black and white as it seems on the replay.
