Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

I have a feeling Panarin waives. This is his second hiccup and this one hit much closer to home. I would not be surprised if there is language in his contract regarding this kind of behavior. Either waive or this all comes out and void the contract. Obviously this is TOTAL SPECULATION ON MY PART, but in this shit storm of a season nothing would surprise me.

Drury's mediocre at best but I still think the failure of the season is on the players more than its on him. Hopefully it means we dont have to see Zibanejad in a Rangers uniform come September

Zibanewho?

My new favourite player on the roster will be Laffy Taffy! He will be my reclamation project for next season and I will fight anyone talking smack about him.

I'm part of a football forum where we do a 'my boy' draft at the start of every season and it's your responsibility to be the hype person for them all year regardless of their play 🤣

Drury says he respects those guys, but his communication with them doesn't bear out the claim. I think we could get in a discussion about what is owed from managers to employees in a workplace relationship but, in a way, it doesn't matter what you or I think here. What matters is what the players expect from the front offices, and very clearly Drury didn't meet that expectation while other GMs in similar situations have. Someone mentioned in another comment that this is a different generation of players, and what might have flown 15-20 years ago doesn't fly today. I think that has the right of it.
It also matters what the front office expects from paying someone 8.5M per & getting dogshit in return

Same for Goody.

If the performance on ice blows, no one is to blame except the player.

You seem to want to put this in everyday life perspective but it’s not. Not remotely close… BUT if your 8.5M salesman can’t sell fire to an Eskimo, you’d fire his ass faster than his head could spin & you wouldn’t take his wife’s career into consideration.

Players play. Their whole world is performance based. Shut up & play better or you’re gone. Not a new concept & if they were born in 2000 or 2025 the sooner they learn it, the better.

Dolan sat in on the player exit interviews this year and immediately extended Drury. Very telling.

As LB and Boyle said on the pod, Mika digging in his heels citing his contract instead of saying he wanted to stay to help the team win was a really eye opening. I think he’s gonna have some tough conversations with management. “Look in the mirror” time.

Let's be fair here. The players barely understand escrow. Most are not college educated. Just look at statements by Jonathan Toews. You'd think they should understand the difference between an NTC/NMC but I highly doubt they understood all the intricacies and any deal that has a NTC/NMC is generally going to be good dollars/years and that sort of player would never even think he'd be at risk of being waived. The league probably never even though of it either until it started happening recently.
To be fair, if everyone on this board understands it… come on. It’s not a high bar. And it’s not players getting their ELC either. I’d be shocked if Goodrow did not know the difference between a NMC and a NTC. Trouba too.
But again, it would behoove the NHLPA to look after its members.

Nah, people are people whether they’re athletes making millions or fast food checkout making $12/hr.

Anyway, the extension sucks. But now it doesn’t really matter what he did or didn’t do. Have to root for him to have learned from his mistakes and do better going forward.

It should be fixed because it is flawed the way it is now but I would doubt there is too much pushback from the players and agents for something that has happened about twice ever.
Really. You have to be a TERRIBLE value for your AAV in order for the team to be willing to lose you for nothing. No player wants to believe they will be that bad.

One bad move is crazy.

One bad move lmao.
i won’t say one bad move, i will say overall he’s not terrible and there’s way worse who still have nhl jobs.

The buch move wasn’t good to start. The idea was fine, the value was just way off.

Drury has made good moves, and bad ones.
He’s shown some ability to both trade and draft.

He’s gotten better at trading since his first season. His drafting has been good with some misses.
His contract signings haven’t been an issue at all. You can argue goodrow, and I can argue goodrow was clearly a huge chemistry piece that got them to 2 ecf’s. But that drury was also correct in yanking the training wheels off.
Trocheck has been such a smart signing. Same cap number as Ryan strome.

He’s gotten better at trading ? By what measure exactly? Do I have to go through every move he’s made? He’s a bad GM and his additions during this season only reinforced that.
