Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

I know fans are mad that there was no accountability or anything of real value form exit today, but for the longest time all we heard from this group was how the season ended in disappointment, how they fell short, or how they got the experience needed to come back stronger and know what they have to do. It's been the same exit interviews for as long as I can remember and never meant anything when it came to the following season.

This was a different message. We all know they sugar coated it. Obviously you also want the players to have a very real understanding that they sucked and need to greatly improve next season, but at least it puts some pressure on the front office who can't just escape with the players taking the blame and full accountability.

We were never going to get anything real from this exit. They've been putting the blame on distraction, noise, and confusion all season.

Isn't MSG just about bankrupt?

I know money is faker than wrestling and these rich ghouls never actually lose anything somehow, but I'm hanging my hat on it anyway!

MSG is not bankrupt.
The knicks print money hand over first.
The rangers still make a ton of profit for msg.

The sphere is now making money.

The tv networks make money.

MSG is probably going to be one of the biggest sports sales ever.

What was the alternative? Rebuild? I think everyone here knows that isn't an option.
It's not about rebuild or not.

If you think the team is talented enough and it's culture holding them back, then Drury should make an effort to change it, which he really hasn't. We continued to have incidents and malcontent right up until the end of the season.

Either we're underestimating how much the team just sucks, or Drury doesn't see the issue that should be an easy fix.

Both of those are his fault.

Even better! Let's rev up the "Sell the team" chants at the Garden! Dolan surely can't ban everyone from attendance, right? Otherwise it's just gonna look like an Oakland A's game there.

Ok, so we need what, about four of us the win the lottery?

Let's get on it.

Is moving Trouba, their captain whose play was a very obvious distraction...And bringing in JT Miller, a hard nosed 2-way forward who keeps players accountable, not an attempt to address the culture?

It's almost as if the organization was trying to hold Mika, Zibanejad, Fox, Lafreniere accountable. And they folded like a lawn chair. When things got tough there was absolutely zero push back from the core of this team, that is what bothers me. When things get tough it's not Drury's job to figure it out, it's the group in the locker room.

It's window dressing.

All of those guys are still here. Nobody had their ice time cut. All the talk about this big memo and the changes he wanted to make and who did he trade? Kaapo Kakko and Filip Chytil. Because that was easy.

All Drury does is make is easy moves to say he did something so he doesn't get fired. He has no vision and no plan. He exists to still be employed the following year.

He's gonna get another coach and probably move Kreider because that's where he'll get the least resistance. Mika will still be here. Panarin will still be here. It's gonna be more business as usual than most people are hoping for.

And when the team sucks, because hey, this group of players just isn't a good hockey team, maybe Drury will finally run out of chances.

The guy is a weasel and a fraud. And say what you will about the players -- they have to be aware of that. I know it and I'm not even in the room.

Accountability from the same player who quit on his previous team? I honestly dont get the JT Miller cult.

He was dogging it in VAN and moped worse than Zibanejad to the point that the team had to send him home. JT is everything you hate about Zibanejad. Its hilarious that you guys dont see it.

Chris Drury doubled down on this culture!!

Friendly reminder that JT Miller quit the team because he didn't wanna play with this guy.

I‘ve been saying it for years. drury is the worst thing that ever happened to the Rangers since he signed as a FA. He has failed at everything.

It doesnt matter who he hires, who he trades this franchise aint doing a damn thing till he is fired.

I hope people start Fire Drury chants all year at MSG next year. Also flood the rangers Insta and other social accounts with Fire Drury. The more noise the better and soon Dolan will have to start paying attention.
Your recommendation is admirable, but if I recall correctly (and I could be wrong), similar tactics didn't work with Sather (who was not well liked either). If Drury has Dolan's trust and backing, he'll be here for the long haul. Remember -- Sather had 7 years of nonplayoff action with some of the worst teams we'd ever seen.

It's not as good as Pettersson's! (And as you can see, the power kill is still in full force)

I don't care that much about penalty killing. Like, not everyone has to be great at it. So, JT Miller is a good player, I will grant you that.

Still, Elias Pettersson's shooting percentage dipped 3% this year. Next year, when it stops doing that, everyone will forget about his "problems," and he'll go back to being the would-be best player the Rangers ever drafted.

And we'll keep telling ourselves we acquired the hero in that arc.

Damn.

Can we trade Miller for Petterson?

Whats with the EV-defense? I was told that he was an elite 2-way forward.

Mika Zibanejad: "Well gee, we gotta hold ourselves accountable, but it would be nice if management communicated with us."

HFNYR: "This guy killed my dog."

K'Andre Miller: "Yeah, you know, I really have no idea what they want me to be, but I'm gonna keep showing up to work."

HFNYR: "Trade this neerdowell immediately!"

JT Miller: "I'm literally quitting the team because I'm mad about *checks notes* something and I'm going to sit in the corner crying until you trade me."

HFNYR: "This guy is literally Mark Messier."

calling Petterson a prima donna in defense of JT Miller, of all f***ing people, might be the most absurd thing I’ve read in a minute

Site never fails to disappoint
Like literally, one of them took his ball and went home crying for a month leaving his team out to dry and Pettersson is called the prima donna.

We love Zibanejad now?
Well you know where I stand, and if anything, the analytics people were over Zibanejad in 2021.

I'm simply advocating for equal accountability and fair assessment over reading into meaningless soundbytes.

Ultimately, if Zibanejad snapped yesterday and cut a WWE promo on everyone, it doesn't change where we are.
