Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Panarin was there, and said he would answer hockey questions, no idea if they talked to him or not, but blame the PR team for not putting up whatever he was asked.
Yeah idk what people expected.

He’s doesn’t say anything illuminating anyways, and he can’t/won’t say anything about the case. And MSG isn’t going out of their way to put him in front of people right now given their involvement in what happened.

Not just a fourth liner. A bottom 10 4th liner in the league, paid like a middle 6 guy.

f*** that Goodrow signing and the Buch trade. Two cases where we all knew just how dumb they were from the get go.

I hated the Goodrow signing the second it was announced for all the obvious reasons.

What I did not anticipate was its removal leading to the destruction of our team lmao.

I knew this would happen.

We read a bunch of nothingburgers on breakup day like they're tarot cards, and we're back to nothing being Drury's fault and "I hope Chairman Drury gets rid of the bad men."

The culture got worse under Drury. He just traded a 1st round pick for another malcontent. He just pissed off another player who was 100% right so we can't just shrug it off like we do with Mika. He traded Lindgren and then burned an asset to replace Lindgren. He's building a defense corps made up of nothing but #5's and he's already doubling down on it. He sent a memo out about big change and then acquired Will Borgen -- that was his core shakeup. The team covered up a huge scandal under his watch because they were dumb enough to think they had a shot at the Cup.

Panarin is still here. Zibanejad is still here. What did he change? He's gonna get rid of Kreider and we're supposed to pat him on the back?

You wanna talk about accountability? Everything you all got yourselves riled up about yesterday happened under Chris Drury.

Why didn’t they step up and provide leadership among the team and play better?

Goodrow and Trouba didn’t leave holes in the lineup that were hard to fill. But if they were the only things keeping the other guys in line then it’s an indictment of the rest of the players

Trading a few players shouldn’t result in an existential crisis. There’s no reason the players should get to demand to be told Drury plans at that point. Play the game. You’ve been playing like shit, worry about your own game.

People letting their dislike of Drury get in the way of realizing how wild shit like those statements from Zibanejad are. Vally is right.
While I agree the best way forward leading the team would have been to dig in and just play the game I also dont think there is anything wrong with what Zibanejad said.

I, myself always try to be in lock-step in business, whether it being my employees or my business partners.

Having everyone on the same page and clued in leads to success.

At the end of the day its on the players to perform. The team that Drury put together this year, on paper, should have easily made the playoffs. It's not Drury's fault that Mika, Kreider, Fox threw a pity party for 80% of the year and packed it in. All those guys cared about were exterior factors instead of what they get paid millions of dollars to do, play the game.

I don't think Drury is a great GM by any means, but to place the sole blame on him is ridiculous. Nothing is ever good enough for Mika and Kreider, there is always finger pointing. Not once have they ever said "I need to be better".

May be a hot take. If Rempe continues to put the work in and develops into a strong 3rd liner while avoiding suspensions, I think he's going to be captain material.
Yes, it's a hot take. He doesn't see enough ice and never will, even if he drastically improves his play to be a third liner.

He doesn't need a letter to lead in the locker room, and to give good quotes for the media. The letter is there so you can speak to the refs, that's the practical function of it. Thus you give letters to players that are on the ice.

I don't get how people complain about the players' behavior but think the president and GM being a giant baby is a good culture. Clearly it could have been handled better.

Again, I point to de Haan. People will say he's not a significant player, which just another lame excuse, but that dude got pissed in about 10 seconds.

People will point to the Lightning and Avalanche as examples of teams that lost key players, but how do we know there wasn't communication there? We have no idea how that was handled.

What we do know is that Chris Drury's team is 24th in the NHL in xGF% since he took over. The roster he put together sucks. It's time that he's held accountable.

I'm not saying some of the cultural stuff isn't an issue. Even if it had no effect, at best, they're still embarrassing. But who perpetuates that culture? Who put all of the offenders on the roster? Is the captain not responsible for his ship?

Is Drury gonna say he needs to be better, or is he gonna scapegoat Kreider and then just run it back with his third coach?

I‘ve been saying it for years. drury is the worst thing that ever happened to the Rangers since he signed as a FA. He has failed at everything.

It doesnt matter who he hires, who he trades this franchise aint doing a damn thing till he is fired.

I hope people start Fire Drury chants all year at MSG next year. Also flood the rangers Insta and other social accounts with Fire Drury. The more noise the better and soon Dolan will have to start paying attention.

As I mentioned before, Drury put a team together that was plenty good enough to make the playoffs. If anything, he did a better job than our "core" did this season.

Drury is horrendous, but I don't think Dolan cares. I mean Sather for a long time got MASSIVE heat from the fans and Dolan never batted an eye. Drury is even worse, but I guess because of the times we're living in, the noise isn't as loud as it was for Sather.

Well if there is noise from the locker room, the fans and most importantly people not renewing tickets he will pay attention. Dolan is about money and image.

he wont like being embarrassed by having fire drury chants on opening night or throughout the year. Im sure he hates the 49% less viewers. He can only ignore a problem for so long.

And i know what i am about to type sounds childish but here it goes. For the people who have posted here that they arent renewing tickets.

Make the statement on social, tag the rangers. Tag Dolan. Say its bc of Drury.

Social media can be powerful if utilized properly. Or at least make dolan aware of fan dissatisfaction and put some egg on his face.

They are pot committed. Hating on certain players is easier than to try to actually understand what the hell went wrong this season and that Drury f***ed up royally.

I am not trying to absolve the players from this shitshow of a season but Drury bares the majority of the blame. If you have a roster of players that you know responds well to communication, then f***ing communicate.

I wonder if Zibanejad just signed his way out of NY with that quote. That's "Waive or you sit. As long as it takes" territory.
That sounds like an empty threat. And in the event it's actually carried out, the joke is on NYR burning a cap %.

You can't separate "Drury put together a talented team" from "the players just quit."

If that's what you think, he hired the players who quit.

And I know what people are gonna tell themselves "oh they get the money and then they quit." Bullshit.

People on here begged and pleaded with this team not to extend Zibanejad because it wasn't gonna age well, and now we wanna act surprised. We begged and pleaded not to extend Shesterkin because this team is cooked, and he did it anyway. He did it anyway because he thinks this group is competing soon. He traded for JT Miller on January 31st. It was a first round pick for a player who is THIRTY-THREE years old in May. It was a win-now move. It was as win-now as it gets. I don't care what people try to tell themselves. You're getting into no war in Ba Sing Se territory telling me JT Miller wasn't a right f***ing now acquisition.

Let's assume the worst about this group. Chris Kreider quit. Mika Zibanejad doesn't eat meat. Adam Fox is fat. Alexis Lafreniere is fat. Nobody trains, and nobody cares about hockey.

Chris Drury doubled down on that group 11 weeks ago to compete this year. That's what he got JT Miller for.

I've harped on Drury long enough, but I genuinely wonder how he got his job. The guy essentially stole money from Dolan and was the worst captain this team has seen in a looooooong time and yet he wound up as our president/GM.

So yeah, there's some creeping doubt in my mind that Drury has the best intentions for this organization

Drury sucks. Mika sucks. KAM sucks. Panarin sucks.

Fans aren’t picking sides between the players and the management. That’s a Fox News talking point. It isn’t mutually exclusive— they all suck.
Eh, I think a lot of people read into Zibanejad's comments and got right back on the "this team will be great when they get rid of a couple of guys who don't care" horse.

That's very much a thing on here.

It all needs to be burned down from top to bottom. No other way around it. Can't fix it by Drury getting new players, or Dolan getting a new GM, or Drury hiring new front office staff/player personnel.

It all needs to be ashed and start over from scratch.

As for Zibanejad's comments, yeah there needs to be communication between the top guys down to the players, but there is no reason for them to know like....70+% of things going on in the front office. If the GM needs the players to know something, most of the time it can funnel through the coaching staff.

Isn't MSG just about bankrupt?

I know money is faker than wrestling and these rich ghouls never actually lose anything somehow, but I'm hanging my hat on it anyway!

This team will be better when Mika stops whining and starts winning board battles again. He's been an automatic loss of possession for the past two years. Dude needs to look himself in the mirror and honestly assess his performance and effort.

What was the alternative? Rebuild? I think everyone here knows that isn't an option.

Yeah, if Mika Zibanejad just clicked his heels together three times and magically became a guy that wins board battles, it would help a lot.
