Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Kreider all season: “when the seasons ends, the blood moon rises and Neptune and Venus align, I will share my tale for all to know”

Kreider at breakup day: “obviously it was a tough season and some things happened but that’s life, y’know. Backcheck, forecheck, paycheck.”

The problem with the “oh the team should’ve just shut them down to let them heal up” takes is that the player has to agree to it. If they don’t, it becomes a labor issue with the league and union.

And when you have guys like Goodrow, Lindgren, Trouba, Kreider who’d rather be a “warrior” and play through the injury, regardless of how badly, then well you’re just kinda stuck.
Not if medically you aren't clear to play

I think the issue is that nothing was communicated and Drury was exposed as not really having a plan.

He thought he was gonna get Goodrow to waive and he didn't, so his story changed on that. Trouba was gonna be gone in the summer, and then he wasn't, and then he was gone again.
His plan A didn’t work out and instead of pivoting like a normal GM, he cried about it to Brooks and took his ball home.

And then decided to blow everything up 7 weeks into the season.

it’s obvious he didn’t have a plan

I agree. I’m just acknowledging that it’s what we’re seeing. Whether other posters like it or not, the team needs a few Spartans. I’m Ovie’s age. I’ll be getting issued my walker next year.

I dunno, I tend to think these kind of things are overblown. It's as old as history to complain about the younger generations and call them coddled or whatever. I'm sure all of these guys have had hardass coaches during their careers

Whatever happens, happens, and you kinda suck it up and do your job. I get that.

Dunno, I guess the players live in a different reality than us since it was obvious to everyone else that those guys were going to be moved and people had been talking about it for months

He's by far biggest disappointment this year - even bigger than Kreider's decline (or anyone else's tbh because my expectations were for Laf to continue to develop up while all most of the others either had a career year and were bound to slow down, or need to start building age decline in their production).

Okay, let's talk about this for a second. Yes, Drury is an nincompoop with poor communication skills. Yes, he should be fired. Yes, he's a dipshit who contributed to this team being ruined.

But what the f*** is this quote? "When you don't know what's going on"? What? You have a f***ing job to do. Whether Trouba or Goodrow on the ice doesn't mean shit. You give effort and you perform. I don't care if you're playing with Trouba or a f***ing tuba with ice skates. You do your best.

This reads like a disgruntled employee with a spin placed by the reporter. It's a horrible look at one of our highest paid players.

I know this fanbase is comprised of over emotional cry babies, but I'll never understand how we got to a point where wanting accountability from the players AND management need to be mutually exclusive.

Zibanejad dodges accountability like he's James McAvoy in Wanted, but that somehow means he's wrong that the front office is dog shit about communicating their plan and vision to the players that are actually leaned on to execute it?

If he waited until the deadline to begin making moves you'd probably be complaining that he waited too long...

This team has been horrendous at 5v5 for 4 years now. The first 20 games of the year showed how goaltending-dependant they were, even moreso than last year... what exactly is drury suppose to do? Let the ship sink on its own? So you can clamor that he isn't doing enough?

The biggest problem is he's a 3rd line penalty killer on this team and it's overpaid for that. We will miss him a lot on the pk if he leaves.
He's been a very important part of PK's success over the last 4 (?) years but between JTM, Zib, Trocheck, Cuylle, and 4th liners there are plenty of options. I also think that Berard will be a good PKer fairly soon.

I feel for Kreider. I can appreciate the sentiment in trying to play injured but it’s foolish and he actively hurt the team.

it’s sucks that it’s going to end this way and I hate that it’s come to this.
You know the saying. He stayed in the game because he is a hockey player. Rumor has it that Terry OReilly played on a broken leg. I did not think CK should have been playing for months till he could say he was 100%.

Imo Drury has been an issue for a while, id even bet he was part of the reason Gorton and crew got the boot.
