Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

I think it's easy for us to sit here and ask why are these guys playing if they're injured. These guys A.) want to earn the money they're being paid, and B.) they're working for future earnings, and of course C.) they want to help the team win.

I'm not going to shit on them for playing.

I'm going to shit on them for playing poorly though, whether it's A) because they suck; B) because they're injured; or C) because they miss their little friends Jakey and Barky

So nobody here mentioned anything about Kreider potentially having a hand issue, mishandling pucks and such because of it, but now that he mentioned it it's been collectively decided it was some major problem. All I heard about was his debilitating back issue the entire season when he said it was something he dealt with early in the year.

Surprised Trocheck managed to score 22 points in 27 games after the 4 Nations after he too hurt his hand. His scoring rate was actually higher after hurting his hand than before.

No, we shouldn't shit on them for playing, and most guys at this level are gonna wanna go out there.

I shit on the team for sending them out there when they obviously shouldn't. There have been many such cases.

Drury failing to communicate effectively. Again, many such cases.

disconnect between the coach and GM? Coach not backing up his promises? Who told De Haan that?

I'm firmly of the camp that a GM shouldn't be telling a coach how to coach and who to put on the ice but at the same time you need to be on the same page somewhat. If you acquire a guy and tell him he's gonna play and then your coach is like "ehhh nah" then yeah there's an issue somewhere there

Do the people running this team pay any attention at all to what's going on around them?

If somebody gets a hangnail, the good teams in this league send them out to pasture and then summon them like Yu-Gi-Oh monsters when the playoffs start.

Not to imply we were ever any good this year, but Trouba practically had his foot amputated last year and we did nothing to weaponize that, even when we actually were at the top of the league!

They could have put Trouba and the morgue and rented Guentzel with the money. I'm not saying that wins them the Cup, but the delinquency of duty to not do that drives me up the wall on principle.

Same thing here. Kreider is under contract next year and you want to get value out of him, whether that's on the ice or in a trade, and you let his condition just worsen.

If you really wanted to, you could have replaced him with the money you save, so you can't even give me a "they were trying to make the playoffs" spiel.

I hope people here cut him some slack now. Something was not right with him. I hope he can rest up and come back strong next season. If he is going to be traded after all this coming out. Drury can go F off.

I think it's fair to question why he played in the Four Nations at all if he was dealing with Vertigo issues. Regardless the team should've stepped in & shut him down at some point.

He can pack his shit. He's a vet. If he was so hurt he shouldn't have been playing and recovered instead of playing like shit for 90% of the year. Clearly he is not capable of that and I would expect no different next season. Let another team deal with it.

All Kreider did today was make excuses, and scare potential teams away from him.

They did. He didn't play between Jan 5 and 14 and missed four games. Then he felt better and played again.

This board just likes to exaggerate every injury. If you read this board his back was so bad he could barely get out of bed this morning. He just said it bothered him early in the season. But once he said that everyone decided it was permanently injured for the year. Now he just said he had Vertigo. He never said that was something he had to deal with the entire season. Then he hurt his hand. But if his hand was so badly hurt how come nobody here who watched him play 25+ games with an injured hand was able to pick up on it? How come Trocheck scored well after we saw him hurt his hand in the 4 nations?

whether he's injured, declining, or both, its time to turn the page on this core. Actually last summer was the time, but they could at least delude themselves that they had one more run in them.

Now, they can't.

The problem with the “oh the team should’ve just shut them down to let them heal up” takes is that the player has to agree to it. If they don’t, it becomes a labor issue with the league and union.

And when you have guys like Goodrow, Lindgren, Trouba, Kreider who’d rather be a “warrior” and play through the injury, regardless of how badly, then well you’re just kinda stuck.
