Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

@UnSandvich you laugh but elite players standout in an elite way and lift a team. Quinn Hughes is playing with a messed up hand and a pulled oblique and he is doing a better job dragging a less talented team that is missing their number 1 goalie than this mess in nyr. I know you love fox but objectively he isn't even playing at a top 10 league wide d man level. You and other always wanted to blame his partners. Thomas Harley has surpassed fox at this point as an asset within the league. Fox's offensive stats were always driven by the elite nyr pp but it's been exposed ever since the tb series and teams learned to play off the right side and neutralized Mika on the dot. Fox is the QB and he never adjusted to this. He always wants to default to his exaggerated fake slapshot (he can't even take a quality clapper) and feed the puck to the left dot for a shot. Once that shot dried up then everything else imploded and they didn't adjust, including the pp qb. Plenty also to be said about his 5v5 game. People prop him up like he's still elite, but he isn't at this point.

Didn’t think it would come to this but this team needs another rebuild. Can someone explain to me how things get better in the next couple of years without basically tearing this team down? J.T. Miller is clearly not the f***ing savior he was made out to be. The defense is horrendous, the forwards are terrible and old or just suck ass like Lafreniere. Where is the hope?
They clear out Kreider, Zib, and possibly Panarin too; Perreault becomes high skill winger in short order with 60+ point years while young; One of their drafted Dmen like Emery or Fortescue becomes a reliable Top 4 D partner; One of Othmann/Berard/Sykora becomes a reliable 2 way 35 point forward for the 3rd line; and lastly, they sign a top line stud within the next 2 years (like lucking into Kaprizov or some shit).

That would be a contender team

Is the likelihood strong? No. Is it a less 5% chance, also no imo.

I was told for years lindgren was the issue, guy is doing fine with the avs. I was told everything would get better when trouba was gone, it's worse. I'm told by the same people that things will go to shit if we trade fox... I'm willing to take that risk...
Lindgren ain't playing 20 minutes a damn night paired with Makar

At five on five, Adam Fox has been on the ice for 53 goals for and 41 against. Hughes has been on the ice for 57 goals for and 40 against. Makar is 58 goals for and 41 against.

58.76% GF for Hughes
58.59% GF for Makar
56.38 GF for Fox

So you could say well Fox has Igor to save his bacon

Makar 56.70 xGF%
Hughes 56.08 xGF%
Fox 55.66 xGF%

So really at five on five Fox is right there with both of them.

If you want to blame him for the pp, I guess you can, but the five on five thing is weird. Thinking this GM would get equal value back for Fox is insane, and any forward thinking GM would probably rip Drury off for Fox.

Exactly, he's not being asked to do more than he is able to. It wasn't lindgren's fault this team didn't have better depth or that fox kept wanting to be paired with him. Just bc the org asked him to do more than he was able to doesn't make it his fault. People here literally tried to say he was an ahl player. He's a fine player that became a scapegoat here.

Do you watch Hughes and makar or do you just look at stats?

Kreider is a f***ing bum and should just be benched for the season. LITR him after it is over and let him retire away. What a waste to end his career. Completely uninterested hockey from him. Now we know why his name was right next to Trouba's in trade memo.
Or. OR. He’s unbelievably hampered by an injury and has been all year. As opposed to one of our most heart and soul players suddenly deciding not to try anymore for no explicable reason.

If we're gonna entertain a Fox trade, what is the return? What player/s or kind of player/s are the target? Do we use Fox to target a top 5-10 F in the league, and then say f*** everything by using Perreault to go after a young promising 1D? @bobbop has mentioned trading K. Miller for a couple months now and I'd be all about seeing what he could return.

Just to throw some names/teams out there for the sake of it..

BUF - Tuch, Thompson, Power, Dahlin, Peterka
DET - Larkin, DeBrincat, Kasper, Seider, Raymond
MTL - Slafkovsky, Guhle, Huston
OTT - Tkachuk, Batherson, Sanderson
ANA - Mintyukov, McTavish
MIN - Boldy, Rossi, Kaprizov, Faber
UTA - Keller, Cooley, Guenther, Sergachev, Kesselring
Edvidsson in DET too.

Thought about LA with Byfield and Clarke but I don't think LA will trade Byfield.

Detroit or Buffalo are the teams. Yzerman needs to do something there. Six years and no playoffs. Adams is a train wreck. He needs to do something.

It's funny with Fox. He is untouchable. However, the return would be automatically be a bad deal. Why?

People point to McDonagh. Really? Trucker went to a team with Hedman and Sergachev. Cernak is a good player too. Ryan didn't go to a team and be the #1 guy. On the Rangers, Trucker would not have been the same player he was on TB. Different roles.

You are wearing binders and not looking at the return
IF the return was good, the trade would not have been a disaster
THAT is the whole pt

Yes, we agree that trade was a disaster, but not b'c we gave up peak McD; it was a disaster b'c in exchange for peak McD we did not listen to bern and get ample quality youth and instead got older and less talented

The "whole point" is that "trading at peak" does not always result in something good because there's always speculation involved with young players and/or draft picks and it doesn't always work out.

Don't tell me what my own point is. I think I know that better than you do.

This is just a group of players not a team. The only thing endearing or promising about them is the guys who come through Hartford. The rest are country club rotten.

Mike Kreider Panarin can’t get it done.

Honestly, "Mike" was really the only Ranger last night that looked engaged and working every shift. He had two checks on the same shift, stickhandler through two guys and got off a one-handed shot, and was hustling every shift. If the other 17 were playing like him the game would've been different.

I said earlier in the season that I think Drurys assessment of the team was largely correct, but that I didn’t think he was the one to fix the problem, and I still believe that.

Also it’s not completely his fault, but we’re starting to see why Laviolette ultimately loses his jobs. You get that one year of success, and then it’s just a total mess, and he’s back on the coaching carousel.

All in all I’m just done with this years team. Please let this nightmare end and that last spot go to an actual deserving team.

The point isn’t what he was on Tampa. Really. The point was the Rangers trading a 1D at his peak and getting next to nothing for it in the long run. I don’t give a f*** who was on TB or what his impact was there. Not sure why you do.

Both the GM and the coach need to go.

Lavi lost the team three weeks into his second season.

Drury ships the right guys out but brings the wrong guys in.

Happy for Mika that he threw a hit. Proud even. What about every other shift where Flames players literally took the puck off his stick like he wasnt there? These guys suck dude. They are checked out.
