Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

We "sold high" on McDonagh. How'd that work out?
We did NOT sell high on McDonagh, we basically swapped 1:1 for Marty St. Louis -- which is the incorrect bullshit false narrative many are espousing here about not dealing unless you get equal or better established vet value back.
How did THAT work out?

We then REALLY screwed the pooch when, having painted ourselves into a corner, we did basically Namest. for JT Miller.
How did THAT work out, x 2?

RB and I are right.
The combo of unyielding cap rigidity + too many vets + not enuf youth due to misfires and beyond stupid rentals have all forced us to gamble on primo youth, at a rate of more than $1 received for $1 surrendered, and the only way we get that is trade.
NOT STANDING PAT W/FOX etc

We sold high on McDonagh and the trade was a disaster. Selling high means you're selling the player at his peak.

McDonagh was 28. Peak.

You are wearing binders and not looking at the return
IF the return was good, the trade would not have been a disaster
THAT is the whole pt

Yes, we agree that trade was a disaster, but not b'c we gave up peak McD; it was a disaster b'c in exchange for peak McD we did not listen to bern and get ample quality youth and instead got older and less talented

Schneider + for Peterka makes a lot of sense on paper
Schneider, Kreider and Othmann for Peterka is my guess. I think it would help Buffalo getting Kreider as a vet in the room and maybe he didn't want to go there during the season but would do so in the off-season. It makes sense for both teams. Would be a good trade.

Man, I miss guys just cutting to the middle with the puck. We haven't had a guy do that in years.

If Nash were better on the powerplay, he would have been a more prolific scorer. If anything, he should have been in the Kreider role, but his teams always used him on the half-wall. That didn't fit his skills.

Kreider gave up the puck twice in the first 6 minutes last night. Two bad turnovers. Kreider tried to pass the puck to KAM in the Rangers zone but Draisaitl is in the passing lane. He is right there. McDavid had a scoring chance. On the PK, Kreider tries to pass the puck to Zibanejad to make a play and Draisaitl is there again.

Kreider is miraculously able to play after the trading deadline. He would skate with the team in the morning skate but wouldn’t play in the games prior to March 7. After the deadline, Chris is able to play.

It isn't some conspiracy.

As much as it might make sense, I have a real feeling the Sabers are not going to trade with us at all.

We're not the only team who would want a player like Peterka, and the fact is that theres more than a little "little brother syndrome" which makes it unlikely they make a deal that they could believe looks bad to them.

The Rangers traded for MSL in 2014. The Rangers traded Ryan McDonagh in 2018.

The Rangers got what you always want in trades, youth, and it was dreadful.

ok, you got me on a brain fart, it was callahan for sml, not McD. The pts I raised remain, dealing for vets is usually a bad idea.

As to the McD deal, it originally did not have jtm, and then it was expanded to include him. That OBVIOUSLY should never have been consummated.

As for the jibe at youth, you are overlooking that Hajek was a key part of that deal, and for all of 4 games he looked like an All Star before injuring his shoulder. You think that would not be as bad as some other injuries but he was never the same after that.

Didn’t think it would come to this but this team needs another rebuild. Can someone explain to me how things get better in the next couple of years without basically tearing this team down? J.T. Miller is clearly not the f***ing savior he was made out to be. The defense is horrendous, the forwards are terrible and old or just suck ass like Lafreniere. Where is the hope?

13 shots in the game today. Players are just going through the motions now. Every week there are obvious examples of just why this team needs to continue to be gutted.

I will continue to suggest fox is moved before his clauses kick in and this team is married to a 9.5m pp specialist that rarely shoots and is part of the predicability issues with this team. Once those clauses kick in it will be like the last year of kreider/trouba all over again...

This team never did a rebuild, they retooled and a few years later we are back to square 1(and needing a true bottom up rebuild)
