Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
Kreider isn’t going to get waived. Some of you are biting on Staples islander fantasies.

I think moving Panarin becomes a real possibility this summer. EF mentioned it a few weeks ago and it’s the first time anyone has mentioned it publicly.

Exactly. You're basically saying that a guy who has been here since 2012, has meant so much to the organization both on and off the ice, should be treated no different than Barclay f'n Goodrow.

I'm more of the belief that Kreider will be moving on. But because of what he's meant to the NY Rangers, management will do right by him.

Posted this in the PGT but I'm on the other side of this coin. I won't root against them, but would much prefer this year's pick to next.

Drury could have a high end pick to work with in trades to get that 2026 pick to be a low as possible.

You could get a higher end forward or even look at getting a top 4 LHD to pair with Fox. Every move Drury has made is to try and get this roster better now, but more importantly retool for 2026 and beyond.

I also can't see them having a higher pick in 2026 than this season. Everything that could go wrong did this year, that won't happen next season. I'd rather take that risk.
I have to disagree with this.....Right now we are a bubble team which mean picking anywhere from 14 up; I don't see that pick bringing in a top player even if we combine it with some of our limited "assets". To be honest, I don't think we'll be as good next season: especially if (as some say) they move Kreider and/or Panarin. Since the draft is deeper, I'd much rather than next year's first than this year's.

Panarin is coming up on his final year. I'm very interested in the coverage it'll get on breakup day and in the offseason. And whether Drury tries to extend Artemi.
I think this will depend on two factors: (a) if we make the playoffs and (b) his performance in same. If he continues the play from past playoffs, he's as good as gone.

They bought out Lundqvist. They threatened to waive their captain 3 months ago. The team doesn’t care about fans feelings

I wonder what they do with the Twin Towers ? Do they lock both of them up long term ? Both guys could be much improved in the near future....and every million counts down the road . Do they get the same or do they value one more than the other ? What is a 4th line guy worth in 2-3 years . Do either have 3rd line potential ? When Kreider leaves we might need one working the crease ....Rempe on the PP....it is not crazy looking ahead .
I'm not giving either of them long term (meaning 6-8 years). At the very, very most, I'd give 3-4 years, and not at what I think the value of a 4th liner might be in year 3 and 4.

Overpay Miller no thanks. He is not worth 6 or 7 mil that he would get on his next contract. 5.5 tops or id trade him
His offense is down the last 2 years, and he still has 2 RFA years left. both of those things will help to keep his AAV down.

I expect him to get something between 5 and 6. Trading him isn't really a good idea because the options to replace him are very poor. We can sign him and still trade him within the next 2 years if needed. After that, there will likely be some sort of trade protection, but as long as it isn't a full NMC, we'll still have some flexibility.

If Drury extends Panarin I’m taking a shit on the front steps of every Colony Grill in the tri state area
I can't condone targeted defecation, but I sincerely hope that Drury is forward thinking enough to trade Panarin rather than re-sign him. Retain 50% and get as much as we can for him.

No matter how many good years Panarin has left, we got his best, and we didn't win with him. It's time to move on. We need to use him as a trade chip to help this team further into the future.

Drurys committee approach to replacing the Panarin points

This is all the validation I needed.

Kreider is gone this summer, Mika might have saved himself mostly due to his ntc and recent play. This franchise hasn't figured out that running the same team back is fine if you can develop the kids into key contributors. That hasn't happened and it's put us in the muddy middle again. There is absolutely no reason Othmann and Berard aren't keys to our 3rd line right now. Kreider can play 4th and be the pp and pk guy. They refused to move Lafreniere off the trochek line all year, it's dumb, he looks like a totally different player the last two games, this organization has no idea what they are doing and it takes them months to figure out the obvious.
The jury is still out on Othman but what I have noticed with Berard is that he gets pushed off the puck too easy. He may not be built to play at this level. The rest of this season should provide a better indication but I do not want someone in my lineup that is going to be a pinata most nights.

He's also quick on the forecheck, he routinely beats the dman to the puck and that is a nice thing to have. As long as he isn't getting hurt and contributes with his speed I'm fine with it. Othmann needs to play with similar minded players, him and Berard worked well in Hartford, why not put them together here?

Othmann & Berard should be Trocheck’s wingers in an ideal world. It’s unfortunate Mika has looked so bad at C

Laf-Miller-Cuylle
Panarin-Mika-Peterka
Berard-Trocheck-Othmann
Edstrom-Carrick-Rempe
Jonny B

That’s what I’d like to see up front next year

It shouldn't be an issue really, give them both 5 year deals, maybe the first 3 are full nmc, 4th is 15 team, last 10 team or something. But there absolutely should be no full nmc in the last year.
I don't disagree with you, I just don't know if the players/their agents would agree to it. Maybe/maybe not.

I mean, who would think that with the porous defense that we've watched all season?

This team is an enigma. They play a game like last night and don't give up a thing and, the week before against the same team, look like an overmatched ECHL squad.

I've done nothing but shake my head all season long.

Didn't hurt that Fox was back. Also better goaltending probably gave a different perception of the defense as well.

I'm very interested in Maccelli from Utah if in fact he is on the block. Kreider wouldn't waive to go there, so I don't know how it would work other than the Rangers do a three way, and some of those 800 prospects the Rangers have in Hartford who are all primed for 3rd and 4th line roles are included.

You've returned

I'll apologize if they actually keep Soucy out of the lineup on the regular but I still don't buy it.

They didn't trade a 3rd at the deadline for this guy to be a scratch and Jones is always a light sneeze away from going to the gulag.
